We just got a Rottweiler and he is the sweetest thing on earth. I have 2 year old daughter and he is so gentle around her....come to find out my insurance will not cover my house because of the breed...this is bs....we can touch his food when eating and he just backs away. They wont even come and met him to see that he is a good dog. I dont want to leave my insurance company i have a good rate. Have any of you guys run into this?

Yes, but I have Huskies. Rots, German Shepards,Pits, and Boxers seems to be the breeds they don't like. One insurance company wanted to know about Huskies, but I didn't go with them. Biting is a big risk for them today, I guess.

I agree with Ezra, my insurance company does not need to know that I have animals. I am not insuring the animal. I would love to see an insurance company refuse to pay a claim because you did not tell them you had a certain breed of dog. READ THE FINE PRINT

Its to late now the dog is gone..my wife took him to the shelter(she is good friends with the gal that runs it so I know he will get a good home)...just ticks me off they can refuse coverage based on a breed...only wish that was the same with health insurance for people that sit on there butts all day and do nothing. Sorry just need to vent.

I can tell u 1 thing I would never do business with that company again.
get new insurance and go get the dog.he did nothing and is sitting in the cage wondering why he is in there waiting for u to get him.

in fact tell us what insurance company it is that did this I really want to know.
I have no prob posting on every pet site there is.and telling every shelter we work with .
they will get hundreds of pet lovers dumping there *** in no time.

in fact if I were u and u keep the loose rs .if the dog dose not get a new forever home in the allowed time I would make my agent come with me to stand with the dog and tell him he is a good boy and it was not his fault when they kill him.if he was unwilling then every one in my town would know the story.

Yup, it's unfortunate that some idiots in this world have to train their animals to be mean, making a particular breed look bad. It's all in the owner in my opinion. I bet you had a good little buddy, but because someone trained a rott to be mean, it ruins it for you and your family. I'm with Ezra, go get him back and take the chance.

Good luck.

They're nice too though, we have 3 of em.......want one? hehehe.
Good luck.
lol no thanks! That is why we have two cats...he got along great with the cats also..he could've cared less about them...That is one thing I was worried about at first..the cats were here first so if the dog did not get along with them the dog would go.But he proved me wrong. We just bought the house back in April,we just got insurance from them not to long ago.I guess this post is more of a rant than help me..just wondering if any of you guys ran into this. The biggest city near us is Superior I just dont understand were they get there facts from to cancel someones policy because of a dog.

I would like to think that the rates should go down, Who would break into a house with a big dog in it ? A lot better than an alarm system and more loving..... Keep the dog, kick that insurance company to the street ! There are plenty of others to choose from.

agree with mosquito, tell em its a mix breed, make them prove its a full blooded rott. Thats to bad to hear about your insurance, i don't think my father would have ever had insurance if this was the way it goes. Hes a veterinarian and we had animals coming and going all the time at our house.

This gets me "hot under the collar'

My insurance lady loved it when I brought my Dobe into her office (American Family Ins). But this company does discriminate Rotts, Akitas, Pitts, Chows, Wolf Hybreds.
Not sure where these companies get their facts to back this up, but I think they should meet your dog first, no matter what the breed. I know alot of people that tell their insurance company it is a mix breed and got away with it. Unless they have your AKC registration papers, they can't prove anything.
Sorry this happened to you, and more sorry for your Rottie.

I agree, but one insurance company told me never to post a sign saying 'Beware of Dog", then you are admitting you have a dangerous animal and liable if they attack. Never had that problem in 25 years of Dobe ownership, their bark is worse than their (no) bite. I still have a sign in my building "Break in, Make his Day" and one in front of the porch steps "This house is maintained for the comfort and security of our animals, if you don't like that PLEASE LEAVE" All that and a lifesize Dobe at the end of the drive!

This topic totally ticks me off!!! Go get your dog, switch insurance. Cold day in **** an Insurance Co. Would run my life. They work for you. Never heard of such nonsense. I went to war on the one dog rule in my condo. Those chicken ****'s backed down when I said I will buy out the entire project and send them packing over such rule. Insurance Companies are a dime a dozen. Your dog is your dog. That is like giving up family to some of us, ain't gunna happen.

Go get your dog ASAP & call insurance & say oops we were wrong mixed breed & no AKC registration papers. Vet should be able to back you up problem solved. Don't leave that dog in a cage he didn't do anything wrong!
