99% a sledders are VERY respectful....

Could not agree with you more. That is why I felt comfortable telling the 1% that they will not be missed by any of the businesses up here and to please stay home. The other 99% are what the businesses up here want to see patronize their businesses and in many cases become friends with.

this thread has 2 courses..

trespassers--major problem everywhere..sledders are now bringing enforcement out because of their actions--which will lead to trail closures and other issues

jagweeds--i also havent encountered them at establishments, but they obviously are out there..

and a 3rd issue(other threads) riders with no courtesy(passing unsafely-not slowing down for stopped riders etc)

why is it this stuff goes on year after year? why is it so difficult to follow some basic "rules" on our own? why do we need to be "enforced"?

i just dont get it:mad:

Why go into business then, if it's about something other than "making money? That's the ONLY reason I would do it.
Please elighten me, because I would LOVE to know why someone in the UP would open up a business, besides making money. Love of people? Charitable contribution to community? Like to waste time?

Some of the posts here have missed the point completely, co-mingled the issues, and are somewhat misguided.
I am certain the offenders in question have no thought in their mind about being entitled because they bought a MI trail pass.

It appears many can't understand that threats won't deter all unwanted activity. There will always be the renegade that engages in criminal mischief, and doesn't follow the rules.
Unfortunately creating a business or owning property, involves a degree of risk that can't be entirely mitigated. There's people that don't pay, theft, unexpected expense, vandalism and of course, disrespect for ownership.
Most don't want to hear the truth, so they play the "blame game" to explain the bad behavior. They engage in pointless rehetoric to vent, like something's been accomplished.
Rationalization is a very strong human drive.

It's not an all or nothing affair. While all UP businesses that cater to visitors appreciate folks coming to the area to support their livelihood, I do not know of a single one that wants or feel even remotely indebted to the visitors that come in and are rude, disrespectful and think that without THEM, they all would go belly up. Folks do not live in the UP to become rich with money and are thus more less prone to want to deal with the person that thinks their poop does not stink. So for those of you with that attitude, PLEASE STAY HOME and play in the dirt and grass and leave the UP to those that truly appreciate it and the good folks that live here.

I became a U P land owner last year. I have found that most folks up here will give you the shirt off their backs if they think you need it. Most businesses will treat you like they have been you friend for years, going out of their way to make sure you enjoy your stay. If you think a 45 dollar trail pass gives you the rite to pee in their pool you are sadly mistaken. Their is a lot of disrespect for others this year as compared to last ten or so years I have been coming up here, not sure what the mind set of snowmobilers is coming to. I do know that attitudes need to change sooner than later.

… Why aren't they in the woods stoping [sic] the trespassing? …
Click → Stoping?
… Its not very hard to know if you are on privet [sic] land. If we keep this up we will see our system closed down as much of it depends on privet [sic] land.
Click → Privet?
not much to get accept [sic] realizing they're are fools in all walks of life.
Accept?
Maybe they just can't "accept" it?
Accept [verb, transitive]: to recognize that something is true, fair, or right

Sam accepted her explanation without question.

This argument is unlikely to be accepted by the court.
accept that:

Most scientists accept that climate change is linked to pollution.
generally/widely accepted (=believed by most people):

His views on genetics are not now widely accepted.
The anecdotal evidence of this tread [sic] is overwhelming.
Click → Tread?

Hey, we're on a roll here today, eh?

Powder sleds are purpose built machines that can go where sleds 10 years ago would not attemp. The sled powder capability is available now & peeps buy it & want to use it. What they lack is knowledge of areas to legally ride so if it is deep powder they throttle up & have a go at it & not a lot anyone can really do to stop them. Can't chase them & who would want too? Land owners can post signs & fence off but that is about it unless they can get some video that ids the rider & the land then get police involved. On an unplowed FR I saw miles & miles of storm fence & I was thinking how much that must of cost but no one getting in there that's for sure. No easy answer to tresspassing with sleds but something has to give ...just plain wrong!

I have been going to the U.P. to visit the very good friends and family I have
up there since,... well,... Ya had to have a designated sled JUST to haul the
extra cans of mixed gas,..ect.

This problem just isn't going to go away. John is so exactly correct on the 1%ers.
The problem is,.. those 1% Problems are really black eye problems and get all the attention.
Every year I read and see this and my head hangs in sorrow.
Some day it will just be,...
"Remember When"
Sad.

It really is today's society.
I unfortunately see it everyday at my job.
and it is breeding like a bad virus.
Snowmobiling is just caught up in it like everything else.

Good Thread.
Hey Jagweeds out there,........
You're not ENTITLED to ANYTHING!
and driving a Car or a Snowmobile or whatever,... is a Privilege

.....gotta go change my boggie wheel. Please keep it safe out there!
No Conflicts+Smooth Trails=Smiles and Smiles of good times!

Attemp? or "A temp"? (Never mind.)
Lando? As in "Lando Lakes"?
I 'tink y'all are just sufferin' from SNOW STARVATION! :(

For those that think that the northwood's can't live without you, go into most any northwoods business wearing a Carhartt jacket, and wait till the last group of obnoxious sledders leave and the door closes behind them. Then say something like, "They seemed nice." More often than not the reply will be something like, "Is it April yet?"....:p

It takes a special breed to be in the bar/food service business. One must have thick skin and keep smilin' or else you become a complainer just like the people on the other side of the bar you are serving. A good proprietor is rare nowadays, appreciate the ones that appreciate our business. Mr(s). bartender/waiter/waitress, I am here to give you some money, please act like you care... or else go work in the kitchen.

I doubt that the owner will use yur snotty quote.....LOL....You must be referin to the local sippin the $.50 tapper.
I have seen a lot of welcome snowmobilers banners throughout the north woodses....if you guys who think we are not welcome, please start a list of anti-snowmobile businesses so we know where not to go.
Thank You,
Snobuilder.

I see lots of those banners, too.....I'm betting if space limitations and printing costs weren't prohibitive, they'd read like this:

"Welcome safe, responsible, courteous snowmobilers.....all others please go home".
