… I miss doing both my trucks oil & filter changes but huge problem disposing of oil & filters up here. …

What, ya can't just dump the used oil in the alley, or wherever?
(Like the City of Detroit yoosta spray used oil on the unpaved streets in the neighborhood back in da 1940s & 1950s to keep the dust down. No, they really did that!)

I agree, the hassle of disposing of that used oil has to be a large part of the problem.

I remember my Grandpa poking holes in a 50 gal. drum, and going up and down the road with it in his bucket on his tractor to keep dust down. It had to take for ever to fill that thing up with the used oil. I wonder what kind of fine that would be now, for doing that?lol

I remember those days in the late 60's. We would thin the oil with kerosene to get better coverage on the driveway.
We didn't know better back then. The oil came out of the ground and we were just putting it back. That was minor compared to what the factories were up to back then.

I change my own only because I don't trust those monkey lube techs. My sister has come back with loose oil filters and quart low the day after. No thank you I will pay more to do it myself.

Exactly. And of course, every time you go in they tell you your differential is low, etc.

Lafontaine does it for 9.95, costs more than that for me to buy the oil and filter. Have it changed every 3000 miles, I'd still do it myself if it was cheaper.

It's a 50/50 thing with me. Getting rid of the oil is a hassle if you live in an appartment or condo setting.

Lots of places in MN will take the used oil and filters for nothing now. I still change my own, as many said, I won't let anyone even rotate my tires. I do it, I know its done right.

I usually change my own in the spring/summer early fall, then I let my buddy ridesafe do it at his place in the winter. I also take my used oil to him, he has a tank it gets stored in.

On my F150 ECO Boost, I get oil change and tire rotation for $36.00, not worth my time to do it myself. I go in on a Saturday morning, and wait while I read the paper, and have a cup of coffee and shot the S*$% with the locals.

Wait... The oil needs to be changed? When did this start?

Had a friend who worked at a dealer tell me about a lady that bought a new car and brought it in a few YEARS later with an engine noise. After talking to her/checking the car out they found out she had NEVER had the oil changed !!

Its funny, I can wire, plumb, frame, etc to a house but I have no mechanical skills when it comes to car, sled, mower, etc. Good friend who I ride with is a mechanic so I provide free lodging, he does all the mechanical stuff. I am thinking about taking a small engine course at our local college to learn basic maintenance. So changing oil, i wouldn't even know where to begin!

I change my own and getting rid of used oil is no problem now. I had a nice young feller walk into the shop this summer from a company called Crystal Clean and offer to buy my used oil. Gave me $1 a gallon and is going to bring me a barrel for my used filters. Nice $450 check.
