Mi no smoking ban starts tomorrow

i think there will be some that don't comply, atleast at first .
i'm a smoker but it don't matter to me either way, figure i'll smoke less when i'm out partying after ridin for the day. it was a freedom that i still enjoyed when in the UP but it's already that way here so it's not a big change.

I live around Joliet,Il and there are a lot of small bars people still smoke in. Every time a ticket is issued its thrown out in court. The first time you go into a bar something is missing without the smoke.

I personally love it too. I don't smell like an ash tray after walking into a place, it is great. It just makes it more enjoyable. A lot of bars are making a little patio out a side door with heat lamps for the winter time so smokers can go out, pound a nail in their coffin and come in without having to freeze their butt off.

I don't smoke, but I saw it as a law we could do without. I understand that smoke bothers some people so I am happy for them that it passed. I hope they don't try passing a law banning smoking in outdoor areas now. Too many laws on personal freedom.
it is B.S. I don't smoke.but I do get incrementalism.1st no smoking in bars 2nd no smoking in rental units next no smoking in condos and then no smoking in your house if it offends your neighbors no smoking in parks within 100 yards of others cant happen you say look in to it CA it has already happened.then the gov decides to regulate other unhealthy choices like salt yes NYC restaurants are dealing with that now.CA ban toys in happy meals over 450 calories because it promotes unhealthy eating is that not the parents choice? .and the list goes on.but 1st and foremost it is not your property it is not the gov property it is the guy who prob refinanced his house worked his *** of for his slice of the American dream to have some politician tell him f you you cant do what you want with your own property.now if the bar owner wanted to say no smoking in the bar that would be OK if he wanted smoking and you did not like it YOU COULD GO ELSWARE. and if his biz suffered he could decide for him self to make a no smoking bar.give them a inch they will take all your rights 1 at a time.you cant pick and chose what parts of freedom you like you either have control of your rights and property or you don't like it or not

As a non smoker I like the law. Does this take the smokers rights away? NO, you can still smoke, get cancer and all the other bad health problems that come with smoking chemicals. Will big govenment come into your home or truck and tell you you can't smoke? with the new health care law the possibilties are greater. Do smokers have the right to smoke and get cancer? Yes. Do they have the right to force a non smoker to in hale the chemicals in an enclosed area and get cancer? NO. Rights and freedoms come with responsibility. For example, we all have the right to practice any religion, but if it harms another person it's not a right or a freedom.

A few bars down here have a kitty. If you want to smoke, you put money in the fund, so if they get slapped with a fine, they just take it out of the kitty. I suspect alot of the northwoods bars will pick up on this idea, unless the law is different. Down here it is just a ticket for the establishment owner.

Heres something to think about. Smokers and non. In the past, you check into a motel/hotel and ask for a smoking or non smoking room. We all know what the smoking rooms smell like and that smell aint going away to quickly. Months or years or until remodel. Now they are all non, so unless the managers keep track of what was what in the past, you now could get stuck in a smoker room. El Stinko

If the non-smoker does like it why can't they step outside?
I am not talking about the smokers rights it is the bar owners right to let people do what they want to do or he wants them to do on HIS or property.not your property or the government property .BTW I don't know if it is still but it was not long ago but in the fed buildings in MN they can smoke in designated Indore smoking areas.hmmmmm kinda a do as I say not as I do thing ha.on a side note every one living in the USA today owes a debt to John Rolf the first guy to bring over some tobacco seed to the new world no one knows how he got them because it was illegal to sell them back then planted his crop made a bundle soon all his neighbors were growing and selling tobacco and more came to do the same.before that crop the new world was dying fast tobacco was the thing that saved the new word.dont believe me look thank your pub education then go look it up

I understand non-smokers don't want to smell the smoke, 9 out of 10 bar/restaurants have a NON SMOKING section.

How is this going to be enforced? I was at the Eagle Riders Club house tonight and asked around. I am the only non smoking member and they got smoke eaters that keep up fine. I asked are the all going to huddle out to the corner like high school or what? They (more than one) said, "They will wait and see what everyone else does". Some where trying to quit tonight, others cut way back. I don't really care. Smoking and drinking go together for most.

as an Iowa bar owner, the law we've been dealing with the past 2 yrs is SUPER from the point of keeping the inside of the bar clean. We don't have that yellow sticky goo grabbing dust outta the air and clinging to everything, but now we're stuck with clearing the outside walk and streetside parking area of undesirable butts that apparently can't find the smoke pot. The sad part of this is, we, as AMERICANS should feel somewhat disgraced by these laws that undermine our small freedoms, little by little in front of ALL the veterans that have fought for ALL of us to preserve them. Don't be scared to let your legislators know your thoughts on the way they voted on this (do you even know?) and demand that if they are to get your vote,they are expected to vote for FREEDOM. Hang on WI, your law goes into effect soon, and they tie the liquor license to the compliance fine, and there were bars that thought they were not gonna comply that have been shut down for 60 to 90 days. Just go with the flow, try to get a repeal and start sweeping up butts outside! GOOD LUCK
