Wow, you know how to make someone feel welcome. Better be careful, snowmobiling is about all Michigan has left! Even their football programs have left the state!

Go B U C K E Y E S!!!!!!!!

LOL, have you read his posts? Nothing but complaints about Michigan. I was simply suggesting that he stay in WI like he keeps threatening to do. Of course then he would have nothing to complain about.

3 peas in a pod.
The last 3 posters on this amusing thread.

And do you think Mi will see trail permits as high as $250 or more like Ontario?

I think in this cashed starved state in 5 to 10 years yes.

Not entirely true.....we still have my alma mater, Central Michigan, who finished the season at 12-2 and ranked #23 or #25 (depending on the poll) in the nation.

(And who, I might add, defeated the Big 10's Michigan State earlier in the season!)

I don't think so, as long as the fees are instituted by MSA and not by the state (which is the case right now). Unless grooming/maintenance costs skyrocket to the point where that type of increase is unavoidable.

cost

I paid 35$ for 1 day in the UP seems cashy. For my $ I got great trails, falling snow, great views and 240 miles. 15 cents a mile for a fantastic day of rideing. I would'nt ride 240 miles of snert for 15 cents a mile.

I will pay it and not complain. But, there is a lot of People here in Northern Wisconsin that will not pay it. They need a Daily Tag or they will loose some Revenue.

Well, maybe Michigan should charge Non-Residents a higher price for the trail permits.
(I really don't think they should do this)

At least with our trail permits, it is the same price for residents and non residents.

Same as all the toll roads in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, etc. They are wide, smooth and fast. We should charge out of state rates for using our roads. We have the best roads in the nation. I'm sure their worth the price. In Illinois, it is $0.03 per mile.

You can go 55 mph to 65 mph (faster for an additional fee) and get through Illinois on I-90 in two to three hours (during the right time of day). And you don't have to worry about the DNR stopping you to check your registration or ambushing you at stop signs (because we don't have any stop signs on our toll roads unlike your snowmobile trails).

Heck, you should purposely go to Illinois for our tollway. There are no other roads like it.

(Yes, it is comparable. This is how a lot of Michigan residents sound to some of us out-of-staters.)

Actually, I'd happily pay a toll here in Michigan if it meant decent roads (if we weren't taxed to the hilt already).

Wow! I can't understand a mindset where you will pay more in taxes and fees but you acknowledge you're over taxed. Granholm most love you. "Yes, I'm over taxed but I will gladly pay more for (full in your wish here)."

You don't tax yourself into prosperity, haven't you (the residents of Michigan) figured that out already considering the condition of your state. (Illinois isn't much better off then you but we get it, we're going to kick the morons out of our State government in November.)

It appears you are just looking for trouble with your comments.

Maybe you should just simmer down a bit.

I think you misread or misunderstood my statement. I said I'd happily pay tolls IF we weren't taxed to the hilt already. Which means that currently, no, I'm not willing to pay tolls in Michigan.

Well, all of these states charge higher rates for non-residents on hunting and fishing licenses.

Maybe we should all just be happy that Michigan seems to get snow, have nicely groomed trails and we only have to pay $45 next year to enjoy that snow and those trails.

Looking for trouble, no. Trying to prove a point with an impact, yes. I'm not upset or the least bit agitated by any stretch of the imagination, however, I get the feeling because I said at $45 for a trail permit I'm not going to the UP to sled, people think I'm the crazy one. Fine, think that way. Fine, charge what you want, but I'm not the only one who thinks this way and more will follow suit as the fee keeps increasing. At some point there will be less and less people riding in the UP and the fees will increase exponentially; until they equal or exceed Canada's.

I also like being called a complainer or whiner when you voice your opinion about the trail permit fee.

FYI, when WI raised their trail permit to $35 I quit buying it, but they gave me an out, registration. MI don't have an out except for don't ride their. O.K., I won't ride there.

Noted and I will retract my statement to you then.

Also of note: I doubt Two-penny Jenny knows who I am (though you never know in these days of Big Brother watching over us) so I'd be hard-pressed to think that she loves me. But if she does, rest assured that the feelings are NOT mutual! :)

Old Forge NY

I once visited the Old Forge area of New York only to be hammered by a [tues.-tues.] trail permit. Twenty five a sled out of state x 2 sleds = 50.00American. Now if the permits weren't high enough, I wanted to ride Wed. thru Saturday only to be told another 50.00. If this sounds a little silly, it shouldn't. That was 1985. I can live with the increase..[20.00].but I don't have to like it.I don't care...I love the UPY trails and the people who live there!
John Denver should have written a song about the UP before he forgot to put gas in his airplane!
