Point taken. Got any more complaints you wish to post form other people? I can share some too.

Buddah seems to be focused on the groomer drivers not being available etc. This was not the case.
It was a decision made by people who have been grooming for 20+ years each to not go out and destroy the little base me might have. It was 45 degrees out and the amount of traffic was nuts. Maybe this was a bad decision. Maybe it was not. Any one here riding will tell you it was not. I get that. After that weekend things are really looking nice. The trails are actually starting to set up in some areas.

Grooming a mogul.... If between the moguls goes down to dirt, you do not cut it all the way down to dirt. Right out of the iasa Guidlines for Snowmobile Trail Groomer Operator Training. Bash all you want. Got your message....

And trust me I am not paid by any one. I believe in what this club is doing and have gotten involved to help in any way I can. My full time job I work from home on the computer. It is easy for me to post and get the clubs message out being leashed to the pc all day in my home office. I am a very blunt honest person. I have even got crap for over sharing about issues. This is not crap from our club either. We are standing up to a lot of people who would prefer otherwise.

It is not mis-information. My report came from an experienced groomer driver that observed first hand, what one of your drivers was doing.

One cannot "groom" a trail that is moguled up simply by cutting the tops off and filling in the holes, then hoping that the snow will freeze and setup. That is what I call "dragging" a trail....there is a HUGE difference.

I'm not trying to argue with you or spread BS. It is the plain truth and nothing but the truth.

Not trying to start a pi$$ing contest (or would that be another pi$$ing contest), but remember we started the season with mostly inexperienced operators. We only have maybe half a dozen truly experienced operators and at 2 routes per day per groomer (omitting 1 route per week per groomer for maintenance) that leaves us with either 24 or 26 routes. And most of the experienced operators have jobs and can't really run 5 or 6 days a week......and those that can are busy training the newbies. Exactly how would you suggest we overcome this manpower deficit? (And I'm not being flippant, this really is an issue that has been discussed AT LENGTH)

We all know this but likely take it for granted; the grade through the area is the only east-west trail and has mega-traffic, especially on weekends (I refuse to ride Munising on weekends, F that I don't like punishment) there is really no way to keep it groomed.

I am coming up to Munising Tuesday of this week to ride for two days and hopefully see Mid-week in good shape. If it is not, I will not make my full trip from Munising to Paradise and through the park and back and be upset.
If the trails are no good, I will go back to riding Watersmeet to Copper Harbor. My three trips this year have been outstanding.

I don't blame the groomer but the traffic seems like the issue as there is only one east-west trail. It is reality and I make decisions based on fact, if the trails are poor I will go somewhere else. That is why I no longer ride between Mercer and Hurley.

With respect, Bear

I agree here. The trail system around Munising is limited to one trail connecting the East and West UP. That's trail 8 where they all connect.

Maybe in a world where we could have someone running a groomer constantly on that connecting trail it would be better? Actually there would probably have to be at least 2 of them running constantly.

My main complaints when I rode there have been that they simply didn't groom. Like trail 7 going south to the buckhorn. I was there a couple years ago at least 3 separate trips. During those trips that trail wasn't groomed once. It was just like trail 8. Simply because they didn't groom it. The excuse was that there wasn't enough fuel.

Now; issues like that are gone. Trail 8 connecting the UP is still there. Given warm temps and low snow everywhere else...combining that with the coincidence that this is the 'rookie' year for the new club, we're asking for a literal miracle.

It is NOT that things haven't changed. They surely have.

Need to get that trail connecting Escanaba to Rapid River back again.....

Trenary Northern Trails is trying to get a trail from Sundell (Rumely) area to Trenary. Then from Trenary to trail 7. We have talked to the club in Rapid about coming north once we get a trail.

Hiawathaland Trails Assoc. (HTA), the umbrella organization that covers the SORVA (Snowmobile & ORV Assoc.) groups for Delta, Schoolcraft, Alger & Marquette counties is actively working on that for both sleds and ORVs.

I sure hope that they get a trail to Trenary from Sundell. No trails in this area currently and lots of guys wanting to ride there.

Both Groomers going strong. Ramping up for the weekend. Last night we changed oil and performed general maintenance on the john deer. Piston Bully got a new fuel filter because it was losing power. Oil change before going out tonight in it too. The recent snow has things set up nicely. Not having a groomer building-shelter makes maintenance real interesting when 10 degrees with 30 mph winds and snow.

Maybe for all the guys commenting about poor trail conditions, we could stop and think for a moment that with little ride able snow almost anywhere in the Midwest (other than Northern WI and MI), that the traffic is going to be crazy? Plus snow conditions are not what they were last year. I remember riding in March after two large dumps that the trailers had never been nicer. Combine that with the new grooming set up, and it made for a great month of riding. Look what those guys are up against with the second weekend in February coming.

I would like to see a sled count done on a typical weekend that runs 8...I think it would be staggering. Not being from up there, is it feasible/possible that there could be another East/West Loop that can connect and accept some of the traffic from 8? Even fire lanes/forest roads from lets say the Wetmore area to the 8's. Another option other than the one we have. I'm guessing no, but maybe its time to start thinking outside the box on this.

They could double the groomers on this corridor and have them running 24 hrs all weekend, and they are still going to bad at times over the weekend. And we KNOW that is not feasible.

Copy and pasted from the TY board (and I agree with this):

I disagree. Why is it the Bill Nichols Trail between the Mass City Area in Michigan and Houghton is IMO.."very rideable" even at it's worst? The amount of sleds on that trail has to be many times more than the Munising trails.

I remember in years past you didn't want to even think about riding the BN after 2PM on any given day. 2-3 ft. rollers by then. Now? With greater frequency of grooming and better techniques, I'll ride that trail anytime on any day.

We know you hate the Munising area groomerdave..... you cant stop posting negative feedback. :) Even though you have not ridden here this year.

Just know the club up here is a bunch of snowmobilers and orv riders. It is no longer a contracted company that does not care. We care!!!
All the things you have heard over the years that the area needs to be better is being considered. Additional East West trail being a big one. Just wait and see.
I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Off to change the oil in the Piston Bully and grease her up before going out on a night run. Will be going from wetmore to christmas via 419 (frog hollow) down to trial 8 - 8 over to the west - 8 back east to 419e and in to wetmore. John deer is hitting 7 and 8 east to shingleton. Should be heading out around 6pm and be done 4am.

I simply disagreed with what wery7 posted, that's all. Good comparison to the Bill Nichols area I must say!
