I'm now $100 into the thing. Probably $20 in gas making 5 trips to fleet, and 2 to menards so far! I just ordered $26 worth of parts today such as the driveshaft triangular flange (the square hole for the carriage bolts stripped out), carb gasket and float bowl gasket, chaincase seal, gas tank fitting that broke off, and the O-rings behind the chaincase bearings. And, to top it off, $13 shipping! yahoo! I got both footwells done, but I feel like I sort of slacked on them. I ran out of rivets, and just used bolts to finish up the right side. My rivet gun started acting up, and half of the rivets i put in were leaving the metal rod thing in there and I had to snip them off. I also made running board supports (the running boards were WEAK!). The engine is all painted up, clutch cleaned, chaincase was cleaned and installed, I installed the fuel pump rebuild kit and cleaned it up, and put new fuel line on. Just waiting on the gas tank fitting for that. The engine was ready to go in tonight, but me and acatzl550 decided to go cause some trouble instead. Ski's and suspension will get disassembled and ready for paint tomorrow, and motor installed. 2 motor mounts were shot. I was able to save one, and used a spare I had for the other one. Parts I still want are a new rubber track and windshield.

few more... I may take apart the left footwell, and use bolts on it since I like the strength and look on it. I will also get some more 3/16" rivets and replace the 1/8" that I put into the right side running board strengthener. I have to take something back to fleet anyways, so I'll pick up a few more small items. Garage is a lil messy huh? lol

Motor in, hood on. Suspension and ski's are being painted. I'm polishing the rails and polishing the tunnel right now. I never knew it'd be so hard to take off old slides! Took me an hour... I spent $17 on bolts and rivets today, and another $3 for a can of primer. Now $120 into it. Every bolt in the rear suspension is getting replaced with a brand new grade 8 bolt. All of the suspension shafts have no grease zerk, i'm putting them in once all the suspension parts are done getting painted. Don't know how a suspension can pivot with metal on metal? Some bolts on the ski's are very stubborn, that's the reason for only one getting painted so far.

Those slides arn't comming off are they, I believe theres 56 rivets holding them on. As far as the suspension goes, there is none, the only movement your going to get is your legs and seat. Still a fun sled though. Keep the pics comming

No rivets, just one bolt. They seemed to be "stuck" on so i heated them up and they came off easier. I got them off now, thankfully! They must've changed design between 78 and 80.

Got the rear suspension back together, painted the trim piece around the headlight, got 1 round of polishing done on the tunnel, and a pic of the hopelessly seized bolt on the ski.

Boy that's sharp, looks like the work of a true cat lover.:D

:p

Got the rear suspension on, still working on the left torsion spring. I put them on their stiffest setting (maybe it'll ride better? lol) and they are TOUGH to get on. Either that, or I'm not putting them back together correctly??? Tough part is, there's hardly ANY clearance under the rear suspension to push on the torsion spring, I have to use 3 fingers to push on a spring that's made to hold my arse up. The rear shock definatly needs replacing, maybe if I win the lottery I will. My list in order goes 32 mm mikuni round slide carb, 116x15x.75 rubber track with new driveshaft (needed for an all rubber track) that has a speedo, windshield, then rear shock. Don't know if I'll keep it that long. I'll probably try throwing it on CL after I finish it up. After 3 days of working on that bolt on the ski, it STILL doesn't come out! The other ski will be all finished tomorrow.

My 500 is done getting the gas tank recall, going to pick that up this weekend

Oh, and by the way, I only got 1.5 lawns mowed tonight. GOLF BALL sized hail :(

well.. now it doesn't even wanna start......... :( has spark, and compression, but gas isn't getting up into the carb. The choke is broken, it has no plunger. But, it started fine before without one, and now it wont start at all. I'll have to try and find one.

Fuel is not making it all the way up to the carb. It's a possibility the crank seal could be shot, leading to a vacuum leak therefore not pushing enough pressure thru the vacuum line to run the fuel pump. I do not believe the pump is bad since I rebuilt i, and the old gaskets looked fine anyways. What I still think it is, is a carb problem. The needle assembly has a slot for a flathead screwdriver and its broke off, so I can't take it apart much. Guess I'll REALLY be looking for 32 mm mikuni round slide now :(
