New respect for you boodockers

Age not so much an issue with me, though I'm sure off-trail would give me plenty of workout. But therein lies my point: I prefer to get my workouts via my Nordic Track, Bowflex, and playing hockey. I don't want to work when I get in the saddle, I just want to ride.

Not at all criticizing those who enjoy boondocking. We're all different in our tastes and there's no right way or wrong way. If it feels good, do it!

Oh crap were talking about boondocking. i bought a camp in Ishpeming about 10 years ago. Our weekend begins a couple weeks ahead of the trip. we leave our shop at 530 on a fri. We hop in my excursion we head north 370 miles. We get to my camp my neibors help me plow a 700 foot drive way and plow all in frt of my camp.We pull right in frt of the front door , My neibor starts a fire in the pot belly stove its 65 in the camp . I dont turn on the water it takes too much time to drain on sun . We leave our sleds there all long tracks . Some are in the trailer some are in my storage container . We dig out all get sleds started and load our trailer a enclosed 4 place floe. Hook up to truck and have a few more cock tails its now 530 am. We wake up about 630 have a quick breakfast warm up the truck and trailer up the peshekee about a 1 hour drive . We unload and ride the whole day . We bring a barbeque and a cooler take a break about 230 and ride till just dawn. We head back to camp maybe have a camp fire have a few more cocktails and call it a day. The next morning usually very cold i take my buds on a special deep powder and lake ride . We lock up camp about 10 or 11 am load up the truck and drive 370 miles . We never see another soul out in the woods . I know a few special spots to stop on the way way home . We were suppose to head north this weekend but my buds mom died this week and im helping him w/ that. We may ride our sleds 75 miles if were lucky. To me weekends like that are priceless and almost brings tears to my eyes. Thankx

Gotta luv it! It sure does tire one out! next stop Cooke City, Tog., Island Park, Snowies???? Revy??? Next stop 11,400 ft altitude and 36" of fresh Powder on top of 48" of powder! The hook is set Famousguy.

Let's not get carried away. I am a trail rider at heart, but I did do quite a bit of offtrail riding on my new piece of land this week. If I were going offtrail all of the time, I can tell that I would want a different type of sled...

I think Famous guy is just saying what a lot of us feel. Many prefer trail riding
opposed to "Boondocking". And where did that term come from? I have done plenty of off-trail or backwoods riding in my day and ,for the most part, can keep up with anybody. I'm with many others out there who like to cover more ground riding trails, forest roads and lakes. I guess that makes us all wimps.

Did my first boondocking this weekend at the Ride-In. I had a blast. I learned that you don't dress as heavy for boondocking as you do for trail riding. It's also very good to have a few buddies along to help with the stucks, as we found out in a swamp. I learned that I would need to be in much better shape to do that all the time, I think a real good stuck might have killed me. This truck driver needs to exercise ( they say that stuff is good for you). I'm still a trail rider, but I'm ready to go off trail again, anytime.

I had a lot of fun boondocking. Thanks for the guiding Brian.

It was also good to be in an all Cat group, us Cat guys gotta stick together.

the more time you spend off the trail the less you get stuck and if you do get stuck you learn not to dig your self in deeper

You did great for your 1st time riding off trail. Good thing you rented that Crossfire!
If we had trail sleds in our group, I think we would still be in that swamp digging sleds out!
x2 on the thank you to Brian for guiding us Saturday.

Me & The kids have been boondocking up & down the west side of the state for weeks. I started a new rule for my kids .... they stick it ... I jump off my sled and say " start digging out ". This " DAD " doing all the work is coming to an end !

Yesterday was a classic... Had my son and his girlfriend ( green horn ) out teaching her "how to handle a machine" that's an oxy-moron . After a little training we started to dink around in some water retention basins. My son sticks it in a ravine , i give the NEW command and say " start diggin ". To aid in the cause I return to the house and get a rope , it wasn't a snow bungie kind of stuck . Come back hook it up and procede to do the yank. ( LOL ) Unfortunately at this point we shut off the camera , but I punch it, yank him , spray him with snirt, sand, rocks ( of course his helmet is off ) feeling some resistance I procede to drive out of the trench ( more yanking & punching it ). When I finally look back, the POO is covered in Poo, it's rolled over on it's side , and my #1 stands up looking like the "swamp thing" ( too funny ) ..... ALL this with his girlfriend watching ( LOL ) I wish we had that on the Go Pro !!!
