Racerxnet. I challenge you to serious debate my friend. It's disturbing how divided we are. You said we are all in this together, right? I am dead serious about a respectful chat. My idea is to pick one simple aspect of OWS. You pick the idea and we'll stay on topic. No chasing rabbits. Here is the reason this is important, the US is divided greatly with just about half on each side so your not crazy, lots of people feel as you do. People like you and myself aggravate the matter by taking offence and the communication halts, just sarcasm and insults, I don't want to continue that way any longer. We both probably have bad perceptions of each other and neither probably deserve it. Lets work this out as best as we can. We don't have to agree but lets understand each other fully so we can be better prepared to make changes. The US is a diverse place and there is room for all of us. Remember, be specific and start with a simple idea.

Glad I am home from work already, this could get good.

I am fully prepared to listen to someone who thinks this country is that bad, but yet chooses to stay living in this country.

I'm watching from the ringside seats, too bad we aren't neighbors Skylar or I'd hand you a beer and we could watch this in full HD glory on my new internet enabled home theater!!!

BTW, before this train wreck of a thread ran totally off the tracks, there were some comments about the objectives of OWS (or lack of), and the current relevance of the Tea Party, which actually is a movement (The Tea Party Movement), and not a political party.

Tea Party candidates do not run as Tea Party, they run as Republican or Libertarian with Tea Party endorsement, there is no Tea Party "Party". In theory, any candidate from any party that follows the Tea Party principles can run and get their endorsement.

Anyway, what I find interesting now is that the Republican "Tea Party" presidential candidates keep going through this "rise and fall" in the polls, that is, they start strong, and then fade. Mainstream Republicans aren't buying into these candidates after they get to know them. Meanwhile, Mitt Romney hangs in there because he just rides the center of the Republican road day after day, month after month while the other candidates just keep running into each other and leaving self inflicted carnage on the side of the road.

So, one has to wonder if (when?) the Tea Party Movement becomes the Tea Party and runs a ticket of its own for president 2012. I just bet there will be a Perry/Paul or Perry/Bachman third party candidacy in 2012.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled bout...http://youtu.be/HSK-Iv3gh9I

WOW!! I can't get to JD for a few days and look what happens to the OWS thread?!?

I live where everyone around me thinks just as racerx does. I can have conversations with some...others not. I do know better than to throw out the crap I believe at those around me who I know don't believe the same- seems to me it's good to know "one of these things is not like the other" and not make desparaging remarks about the ideals that my liberal neighbors hold dear for their own reasons. There's koolaid being drunk on each side of the aisle...but I don't think I've ever read anything Lenny ever wrote that was towing any line but his own. dcsnomo either. Ezra for sure not.

But I'll cyber-pull up my couch right next to dcsnomo's and skylars.

This has been a very informative, thoughtful and educational thread - with the usual smart alleck comments strewn throughout. I'd hate to see it degenerate because of one dude's comments...

I think everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt. I went back and looked at Racersx OTHER threads and he is about as polite and civil as can be. No doubt this issue is close to his heart. Lets not draw a conclusion because he may have been responding in haste, only he knows that. Sometimes a on line forum brings out the worst in a person.

tru dat. Indeed, sometimes it's hard to know that what one is posting reads like it's kind of attacking others and possibly accusing them of drinking koolaid, straw-somthin somethining and basically being uneducated and unable to think for oneself. :)

They have been allowed to occupy, their entire lives they have been allowed to do things they shouldn't have. Now that they have an education and cant get a 100k a year job presented to them they are pissed. At first this was just a way for them to vent, now it is blatant manipulation for political purposes by others, I'm not sayin, I'm just sayin.....

okay,,,,,does OWS have a precise message, a spokesperson or a means to convey their concerns in a formal manner?

Nope.

I think you are trying too hard with my post. Merely speculating on a third party candidacy. Trying to get the thread to change direction to a less antagonistic course, maybe cool of the participants a bit.

Aaargh! I can’t take it anymore! (Derailment #37)

I’m pretty sure the trail passes in China, North Korea, or wherever, are higher than they are here (even including Michigan).

Last night I get home after a 13 hour day, turn on the news, watch people marching and “demanding” good jobs. “Demanding”? What the deuce does that mean? Just exactly how would this demand be met?

In the grand scheme of things, capitalism and democracy are probably short term endeavors. Will the alternatives be worse? Probably, and eventually the same concept will re-emerge many centuries from now.

I’m certainly in the twilight of my career and through a combination of luck, skill, and some degree of dedication, it’s been good to me and my family. We have no golden nest egg but we’re survivors and we’ll be fine, even in this country.

End of my rant - I’m off to put on some Blues, have a couple of brews, and reflect on how good life is. I make no apologies for that.

not sure what your saying here. My question about the tea party is unrelated to the question on OWS

FIRECATGUY, it seems the first occupiers were more vocal and less angry. What is a valid point they make regardless of how they go about it. Inside trading?

Ahh man, I did not want to get dragged back into this thread!!!! But, since you asked...

"Tell me a valid point OWS makes".

My government has been purchased by special interest groups and is no longer representing the majority of Americans.

Now, wanna see something really cool? This is point #9 from the Tea Party's 10 pt platform
9. Avoid the Pitfalls of Politics - American politics is burdened by big money from lobbyists and special interests with an undue influence on the peoples’ representatives
