WOW! What a week I've had! I'm hoping next week goes better - this past one was a major roller coaster!!!

My Mom was taken to the ER and admitted to the hospital for three days. My Dad took her to the hospital Wednesday afternoon. She could not breathe. She was diagnosed with COPD a while back but this is the first time that it got really bad. They admitted her and discovered that she had an infection in her lungs so they started her on steroid treatments along with some heavy duty antibiotics. Thankfully she was released Friday evening and is home enjoying her own bed!! VERY HAPPY NEWS!

She was sent home with oxygen, telling her she needs to use it 24/7 for a while until her current infection clears up and then she can start trying to not use it. She says she feels really good with the oxygen on. My Dad is happy to have her home; he can keep a close eye on her.

THEN... while talking to my Dad, he told me he was diagnosed with Prostate cancer - like back in December!!! What the... sure would be nice if you TOLD ME THIS CRAP sooner!! He tells me that they caught it very early and it's very treatable. He is going through some standard testing required before treatment starts. He has chosen to do the radiation treatments. The doc says that it is all contained in the prostate and the radiation will do the trick. Dad says there will be daily treatments for like 5 weeks (or maybe he said 9) but that he's prepared for it and he knows he will be just fine.

So, on top of all that, unemployment received bogus information from Jim's f'd up company that he had earned hours for three weeks during his lay off… ummm, no - that is so NOT TRUE. One of the weeks was totally bogus - they said he worked the first week of his lay off - no, that was the paycheck from the week before - the last week!!! The other two weeks were from him cashing out his vacation - which he was told he had to or he would lose it. Unemployment said that was submitted as earned hours, not vacation cash out. So they have suspended his unemployment until it is paid back. We spent hours on the phone with unemployment and they said well, the company reported it as earned income - so we need to appeal it or have the company correct it. Unemployment can't do anything about it at this point… except deny further benefits until the overpayment is paid back. But there is NO OVERPAYMENT! O M G! So next week I have to write up the appeal and fax a bunch of crap to the unemployment office. In the meantime, I don't pay any of my bills. PISS ME OFF!

We got our taxes done - we owe to both Fed and State. Okay… yeah… just like everyone else, we ain't got the money so good luck collecting it! The tax prep gal said that there are 'hardship' programs for both state and fed - so we are supposed to call them and discuss it with them. Oh fun.

And, still no job offers. We are getting leads and interviews, but we aren't getting any offers.

AND it's been raining all week, the snow is nearly gone, the stuff that is left is a ugly muddy mess. Everything is a big mud bog… I hate this time of year… messy ugly brown.

So yeah, I'm a real big ray of sunshine - HUH!? I should just go throw myself off a cliff, but my luck all I would do is knock a tree or two down…

Sorry - I'm just super cranky...

So… let's hope next week is a GOOD WEEK!!!

Think'n of ya Juls. I'm sure "hang in there" is getting old. With all the crappy things that have been happening to you...is it even statistically possible to not turn around soon? Good luck.

I've been following the Iditarod sled dog race on line. It's turning into quite the exciting race. Could go right down to the wire. Those guys and dogs are amazing.

Julie,

Sorry to hear about all the bad news, things WILL get better.

My dad has CPOD, if mom is put on any inhaler make sure she keeps it clean and rinses after each use. Getting pneumonia is very common with CPOD and the use of the inhalers like Advair so pass this on also a mouth fungus called THRUSH also comes from the inhaler use.

Good luck and I'll say a prayer for your dad,

Dan

Wow, Julie, you really did have a bad week last week. I'm sorry to hear it. I will say prayers for you, your Mom and your Dad. Try to hang in there! I sure hope things start looking up real quick for you!

I rode my bike to work this morning. It was pretty exhilarating. Just think of how good of shape I will be in if I ride back and forth to work. If I go home for lunch it will be even better! For some reason, I don't think four miles total of riding my bike will make much of a difference, but it's I get more exercise than driving my truck to work.

I was also at Canoecopia on Saturday and Sunday. It is a large paddlesport expo in Madison, WI. I saw a lot of paddling friends, went to see some good presentations and bought a couple of things I needed. All in all, a great weekend. If I didn't have to fix my truck I could have maybe bought a new boat. Well, maybe not, but it was a great dream.

Well, I need to get back to work. Later...

OMG! My snow is GONE! GONE GONE GONE! Who turned the heat and the sprinkler system on!? Melting temps and rain for over a week! FINALLY we have some sunshine! :)

The yard is mud. The dog likes it! She rips snorts around and gets her foots all muddy then she wants to come back in. Umm yeah... not so fast spaz!

I'm teaching her (again) to wipe her feet befor she goes tearing around the house leaving her Bagley muddy foot pokadots all over my floor. She's kinda getting the hang of it. Kinda...

The kids are all geeked - they are on Spring Break next week. Should be a good week with them and Jim!! I'm just looking forward to sleeping in a bit! School and job hunting has been keeping me up late so 6 AM comes way to quick. And this time change... 6 AM is way before the butt crack of dawn! The birds aren't even peeping when I get up. What the...?

My mom is doing well! She's home with her oxygen tanks and she sounds GREAT! I can talk to her without her having coughing fits and being out of breath. She went to work yesterday - took her little tanks with her. She said it was like being a puppy on a leash... she would get too far out and BOINK she would come to the end of her line! SO HAPPY she's doing so good!

My Dad starts his radiation treatments next month. He's got a real positive attitude, so hopefully this works!!

I got my final grade for the last session - it was an A - THANK GOODNESS! So far for my current class I'm pulling a 100%!! Perfect A! The professor was gushing about how I'm going to be the "class leader". Oh yippy! I do like the 4.0 thing... at least I'm doing SOMETHING!!

Speaking of which, I've got a couple jobs to apply for and a paper to write!

Have a GREAT day and a WONDERFUL weekend!

Hey Folks!! My week ended on a HIGH note! :) Finally!

Apparently, the job fairy is back from her extended vacation! Yesterday and today have been very busy with many phone calls with some good job opportunities! Those phone calls have led to interviews scheduled for next week. I've learned to not get excited at all... no excitement or "planning" until I have an offer IN WRITING! Right now, it's just conversation...

Hey Vinnie... you hear anything from the corrections place? You gonna be a BOSS in the system?!

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT OVER THE PAST YEAR! I am first to say that I've not been a very happy camper and you all have been so kind and supportive and I cannot tell you how much it means to me! THANK YOU ALL!

Good news Julie! I really hope something pans out for you. You deserve it. I'm also glad your parents are doing better!

Except for grocery shopping tomorrow, I am planning to hibernate since it sounds like it is going to be a crappy day.

Maybe some good news,.....

JULS: Chin up! fingers crossed for ya sista!

Well,.....
I got a call today,....
to come in for another interview,.....
and I was offered and signed a letter of conditional employment!!!!!!
or in otherwords,...
They grilled me one more time, and asked if being a Corrections Officer
is really what I wanted to do.
Of course, I would have the low man on the totem pole shifts,....
but hey!
So,...
Friday I go for a physical / drug test,...... and if I pass that,...
And,...they don't find any incrimidating things against me during my extensive
background check,.....
(What about that time in Mexico,....)
I will be able to start a probationary/schooling/training period within a couple of weeks.

I also heard, that if I really knew how many people actually "applied" for this position,...
I wouldn't believe it. (holy cow!)
The one thing I am VERY proud of,..... is the fact that I "graded out" better than a bunch
of folks who have a Lot of experience in this field already.
So,.....
I guess I have a good reason to get back in shape! :)

It sure beats a sharp stick in the eye.

Keep your fingers crossed!

~Vin
