Professor PC.......how many times have you been to the light? How many times have you seen the "Real Light"?? I think you do agree....you can see headlights from the light viewing area too.....right?
well since i guide snowmobiles for 25 years or so now and started out in that area and those trails.....plenty times....and yes....the cars lights do shine it up the same way....the problem is so does the aurora coming down the leyline....the colors are from the aurora and the white and blues come from the cars.....noone ever thinks HEY.....maybe BOTH ARE happening intermittently and randomly....then they all say NAW.....its the car lights....same as the indians thought....YA, thats our ancestors dancing up there....only it ain't.....its the solar wind hitting atoms of different elements creating lights AND that trail is EXACTLY dead on the magnetic leyline on the earth....which HAS BEEN PROVEN TO EXIST 1000 TIMES OVER BUT YET>>>>STILL PEOPLE CANNOT EVEN GET PAST THAT POINT for gods sake....someone also said the lights were first recorded in 1966.....NOT....they were written down as early as freakin' 8000BC or so im afraid to tells yas.....that path was long known to the MENOMINEE INDIANS and was recorded by white men as early as 1790 to 1800's....then afta trains it was recorded MANY TIMES up until today....so in conclusion
I HAVE A SERIOUS TIME BELIEVING ITS CAR LIGHTS
and BOTH probably happen....so LENNY you right too otay....but it certainly is not why the lights happen so often and with length and colors
heres the indians story if you want to read it....interesting

Thank you!
Yes, I guess Johnson Lake road might also work as well as the source of the "Paulding light", but it's a tad further north than the "sweet spot", roughly 2 miles beyond the point where the present US45 comes back into alignment with the line-of-sight, and there's probably a bit more forest for the light to penetrate.
It is 3.85 miles from the Paulding light viewpoint to "beautiful downtown" Paulding (Bond Falls road), and 6.6 miles to Johnson Lake road.
While parked at Johnson Lake road, facing to the south as you said, you will indeed be positioned to see the "Paulding Light in reverse", the vehicle lights along the 1/3 mile long "sweet spot".
Except you forgot the most important ingredient:
Beer!
I just trying to keep the suspense here.
What they are saying is they see a light starting in the distance comes closer to them, and gets brighter.
sorry for all the posts but I have started to read the entire thread again and looking at some of the good points made. The light coming in closer is a good point. We see the light on average for 1 min 15 sec, we predict the lights are approx 5-6 miles away. if this as somewhat accurate, we can conclude we observe the light coming towards us for roughly 20% of the overall distance, I believe that is substantial, may be a reasonable assumption at why the light appears to come closer, BECAUSE IT IS!!!!
How dare you use common sense! The nerve!

No, I have not been to the light. However, my fiance and I are doing a sort of "honeymoon" in the Keweenaw this summer and I am hoping to make a short side trip to Paulding.
