Poos rings are not good from what they say. Oil? I dont know that much about motors , so maybe ?

Haven't heard of any ring problems, the internals on the 600s have hardly changed since the early HO's. The 1 thing that has changed? Less oil and Less gas.

So does this mean the repairs are never ending? Seems that way to me. If OEMs can only get DI 2s EPA approval by starving engines of gas & oil then everyone turns oil pumps way up then we could be faced with engine polution inspections & forced back to spec & DI 2s engine go boom again. Maybe Cats DSI 2s is the way? For me I'm done with any snowmobile DI 2s just to risky & costs too much to repair. Only way I can see DI2s staying around would be planned engine rebuild programs at about 4,000 miles just like VCRs throw it away buy another & off you go.

dont know the new cat 600 looks good on paper .
time will tell but sure looks like the way to go .
but then the engineers in TRF have usually gotten it right in the motor department hope this 600 works out as well

I like what I saw on paper with DSI 2s too low pressure gas thru opening in piston skirt makes a lot of sense & they claim will run cooler than other DI2s engines. Can't remember how off top of my head but also was delivering oil to crank bearing as well. But then AC selling new improved low temp flow oil so that turned me off but if priced right I guess ok?

Indy , go talk to Chris at Kens and see what he has to say about the rings if you dont believe me.

Still haven't heard anything about that until now and I scour forums all day long. It starts with oil consumption, simple as that. Your sled was probably running 75:1, about 2 times less what a good old ves carbed liberty ran on all the edges 01-05. Those motors lasted FOREVER. There was a reason for that. 10 mpg and a quart per 100 miles.

Your right indy it's not cheap. But 10 mpg and 100 miles per qrt. aint cheap either when your running 5,000 miles a year like pwolfy.

from what i see a 5 yr old sled is a 5 yr old sled the resale is not even close to making up for the extra $$$ .
in fact a lot of the 06 07 yammi I see are going for less than there 2s rivals.
who cares if a motor can get 30k mi on it. most chasi starting to flex after 6k. the skids are all but shot. bearings mostly shot. chains and gears just waiting to snap .but hay she runs like a top

ezra,

you're correct but you're forgetting one thing. Most of these 06 and 07's have 10 thousand or more miles on them so most of these parts must be lasting. Of course you're going to do bearings but it's cheaper than a new sled is it not? I don't see too many other brands putting on 10k and still getting anywhere near the money for them. Yes there will always be a couple but nowhere near as many of the Yammie's that you see. Also guys, take a look. Retail means nothing. Lot's of people are buying Yamaha's brand new at a pretty damn good price! Lots of 2 strokes retail for well over 10 grand and it doesn't take near the material to build them. 5 year old sled is not a 5 year old sled unless the miles are similar and they simply are not. Resale value it higher on a 4stroke with similar miles of that of a 2 stroke. Ezra , I agree you will always find a couple of instances but that's not the stereotype.
