project Mtn Max

Viper mtn front shocks will significantly raise the front end if you don't want to go the fab route. As for the HP, pipes is the only way to go short of big boring it. My bro has an 01 MM with a set of older SLP triples. It is ridiculous the amount of difference between mine and his (I have no motor mods). The only one in our group that can beat him is an 08 M8 that is seriously tweaked.

Im jealous Lenny...I shoulda keep my 01 MM 700...loved it...yeah.. it was heavier than, and had lower power than most 700's in it's day...but what a SWEET running sled....I put nearly 6,000 miles on her in two years, and traded it on a VIPER...HUGE MISTAKE....coulda kicked myself....I would put slp pipes, and can on her with clutching from MPI or Hartman...reed spacers...shave the heads, some slydogs skis....and let her rip!!!

I might have to get one again, and mod it, for playing around...If I lived up by you...it would be a perfect sled.

Lenny,

When I scrapped my SRX I sold it to BK Boat and Sled (they post on here) Not sure what he has left from it but aside from the tunnel it was a solid sled and actually had custom front shock mounts to raise the front ~ 2". I am heading up early Feb if you would like me to bring anything up.

I guess I'm still a little confused as to why you need a new top end or new motor and CDI when yours is running just fine? Are you just trying to freshen things up a bit or porting the new top and keeping the old as a spare? If it still runs good and has good compression, just pipe it and clutch it and be done. What am I missing? My friends tell me I'm a little slow sometimes....

my sled is a 600 and there are times when I do need more HP. The plan is to swap top ends from a 700 along with the carbs and cdi. Buy some slp triple pipes, clutch er up and be 35+ hp stronger hence "project Mtn Max"

well,,, thanks to metelman and his bud for a heck of a deal. I got all the parts necessary to convert my motor over to a 700. I do have friends coming up soon so I will wait to do the work till possibly spring now, we'll see, hopefully sooner. Gonna be finally hittin the backwoods later this week. Gonna also strip the decals off the Max and paint the hood black with yellow graphics. I got new hi-rise bars. Now all I need is the slp pipes and I'll be running 140 hp.

Thanks Steve and your bud, I forgot his name? You guys gave me a sweet deal. Come over this direction sometime and I'll take you guys out for some back counrty riding, I'll buy the brews also.

Well I finally pulled the Mtm Max out of the corner and started the project . Yanked the motor out this afternoon and things went well. Tomorrow will get into the motor and disassemble the donar 700 motor. Hopefully there will be no MAJOR surprises.

Be careful with the triple pipes on that motor. It gets WAY more sensitive to jetting when piped. Consider adding EGT's or at a minimum Holtzman's ATTAC. When I had my Viper ER a bud with the identical sled piped it and promptly burnt it down like 3 times before he watched the temps etc. Good Luck! Still LOVE the sound of those motors.

well the Mtn Max is up and running and I can say it was a worth while project. The motor pulls harder and longer than the 600. Sure cannot be more pleased with the work and time I have put into this project. I still want to go with the slp pipes but still short on cash to do that. Looking to get a few accent decals of red and black for the hood to tie the colors together. Anyways, I had the old beast out in the back country for a few days and am impressed with it's perfromance.
