ripsaw vs cobra track

Does the cobra have less side bite than the ripsaw?There are times when I wish my ripsaw wasn't quite so locked down on certain corners and such, but I still appreciate the bite compared to how squirly the old tracks were in the corners.I've run a 136" ripsaw for a while and have thought of trying a cobra this coming season.

Due to the defective lug on my old one, I just got a brand new Ripsaw. Really wish I could get a cobra :( Anyone want to trade? :D

You can tell it is brand new. Indy hasn't even had time to stud it with pink backer plates.
 
Not sure I get your point? Please explain more fully.

Sorry if I came off sarcastic. My point is that not everything he is going to read is going to be the whole truth. My friends sled had his two ply ripsaw rip in half after a stud ripped out of the edge of the track. I know the rip was due to the stud but a lot of people stud there tracks now.

On the point of the car, in the 50's they built the cars so strong you could hit another car and not cause any damage. While that's cool if you want to play bumper cars, not cool if you want to be able to walk away. Today's cars crumple like accordians to absorb the energy, that way your body doesn't have to.

Pretty simple

Ripsaw = great on hardpack and wet heavy snow

cobra = better off trail, in loose, fluffy or sandy snow. due to lug design, check out tracksusa.com for pics of the lugs.

personally i'd say the ripsaw is better on trail but the cobra is not a bad trail track at all, if you plan to ride off trail at all, go cobra getting stuck once you will wish you had it.

If you stick to trails or lakes and are a touring rider then I'd say ripsaw. both are very good.

hyfax wear should be the same for both, I've had a ripsaw run through hifax in 600 miles and a buddy did the same to his 1.3 cobra. All depends on the trail conditions you ride on, 50 miles of dirt can kill hyfax in very short amount of time.

my buddy has a cobra on his sled and I have a ripsaw (for now) and in all aspects, loose or packed he burned me off the line and hooked up all other times. only thing I noticed you really notice is that the cobra is much more agressive in corners. Not to easy to just rip and slide around a corner like you can the ripsaw.

I did a track USA extension on my Doo 2009 Trail. 120 to 137 with the ripsaw. I did not change the gearing and I must say the results are spectaular. I ride most off trail in the norhern UP (The Keweenaw and Huron Mountains) and did not have a problem off trail in deep powder. On trail riding is geat and did not have any problem hooking up or cornering. I know I have only been riding for over 35 years and road the worst and the best however the new generations of sleds is so superior to the past and would recommend that anyone go with a longer track. How long is up to you and your riding especially if you plan on serious off trail or mountain riding. Just my 2 cents worth

Now you got me confused...I thought the ripsaw gripped like crazy on the trail, and the cobra is a little less grippy so that you could slide it easier? Maybe I'm wrong...

You are right about this, the ripsaw has more side bite so it better through the twisties especially on hardpack but the extra forward bite of the cobra is better in deep, loose, and more aggressive "out of the hole".

No one track is superior at all aspects of riding like tires for your car, most will do a fine job but each is slightly better at some aspect or another. The difference between the ripsaw and cobra track is really like compairing a snow tire to a mud tire, both are fine, but you need to determine where you want to get the most performace.

the cobra is ALOT better for traction. NOT great for agressive cornering the cobra wants to bite and send you staight. the ripsaw is easier to slide thru corners

IMHO- the ripsaw is only good for groomed trails...any othersnow conditions its a POS...the cobra is my personal fav "all around" track...does everything well...especially ditch/power line type riding...works just fine on trail...as for hyfax wear??? the cobra is a true 1.25"...the rip turd is 1.125"...I run a 2.5" on the trail (with scratchers) and have the original set of hyfax still (2009 154 Hillclimb Summit)...BJ

good thread - ttt - I bought a 2010 137 renegade in 2009, pick up my 2012 Switchback tomorrow - has the cobra on it, i'll post back after the first ride!! All I need is some SNOW!!!!
