Soaring gas prices in Northern WI

What other industry raises their prices for "maintenance" at their facilities? No other ones that I'm aware of.

My dads company has a chemical plant by the refineries and he had to do an audit when they were doing maitenance. Said it was insane, they closed down all the roads and stuff. It's the same gas as before I don't really get why it goes up but we have no choice really so we kinda have to deal with it.

Price of fuel and the economy go hand in hand. If they want to ruin the economy more than it already is keep raising the price of fuel. I know I spend less elsewhere when I need to put it in the tank..

Moosehead, I could not agree with you more. IMO, the quickest and easiest way to stimulate the economy is to get the gas prices down. Heck, get them down to $2 - $2.25 and I think you would see the economy pick-up (not just the stock market values). I know when prices are as high as they are right now I stay at home a lot more, drive a lot less, spend less money and basically become a clam.

High gas prices are like a tax you have to pay it but takes your revenue you would be spending on other things now go to gas costs. Brings the national economy to its' knees if it goes on too long. Economic fundamentals improving & pretty good now so will be interesting to see if gas costs decrease or keeps rising all summer? Almost forgot $3.94 in Iron River MI today.

Just to make all you Northern Wiscony folks feel better...Here in the twin cities, it went from $3.79 last Weds to $4.39 on Friday and is still anywhere from $4.29 to $4.21 today. We have the highest price in the states behind frickin Hawaii!!

Got to LOVE IT! Or NOT! I'm thinking I need to purchase a food grease burning fleet of sprinters that smell like french fries pretty quick!

Maintenance my butt! Money grab more like it. Now if I smoke and like a beer, which I do, tax on that goes up TOO? Living in AMERICA! I guess its better than some other places but we HAVE to reel this crap in!

At least they are building more bike lanes and removing car lanes in the city now...that will take care of all the congestion issues! :) Sarcasm and a lot of it!

Recent records set for EXPORTED refined oil products. When our gas prices equal over seas prices, the price will stabilize. ie. $8.00 a gallon.

This is what I think sucks. Overseas, UK specifically, does not have the capabilities, nor the supply we do. Why the you know what, should our prices equal theirs??!!?? I get the whole global demand deal, but don't make me feel better telling me we pay less than someone who should be paying more.

$8 a gallon 2x todays' price per gallon will never fly here Congress would be all over that or end of oil as auto energy convert to nat gas. Price of a package of hot dogs would be unaffordable as all food prices. Never happen in near future.

Ever since hurricane Katrina, gas prices spiked and have never recovered. Guess the gas companies realized they were leaving money on the table.

What's new in Iron River? Sold my cabin on Bates Amasa Rd. last year before my move out to Oregon. Sure do miss the U.P. sometimes. Lots of fruits and nuts out here on the left coast for sure.

Only thing new in Iron River is there are 2 Dollar stores.lol We tried to find a Ma & Pas bar & grill for a lunch burger but could not find anything appealing so went to MCds. Used to be the Happy Italian somewhere but could not find or closed. Lots of closed store fronts in IR very sad.

My two favorite restaurants in the Iron River area closed down last year, Westwood II in Crystal Falls and Woodzy's in Iron River. Only decent bar and grill left in the area is the Rusty Saw Blade in Amasa and maybe the Wooden Nickle west of town.

My wife and I almost bought the old Huttenbar Resort a few years ago, talked ourselves out of that idea lol

Yesterday I filled the car and truck at $4.24 in Lakeville MN, at SA. Tuesdays are their double coupon days so I stopped and used my reward acct to get a .50 coupon. Good for 25 gallons and I saved $25. Coupons are great and this was really a savings on these high prices. Not looking forward to the weekend but I am driving the car to Madison, Nissan Altima gets 30+ MPG on the freeway

I don't get how the DOW can be setting records everyday yet we still are having all these problems. Even more sad, I've only been paying gas for two years now and I can't ever remember gas being less than 3.40. I wonder when I get older if I could tell stories like all the old people, "I remember when gas was 35 cents." Hit 16 and the world gave me a nice smack in the face, but I guess ya gotta pay to play.

LOL..Don’t think you’ll be able to use 35 cents but you will be able to say “I remember when gas was $3.40 a gallon.”</SPAN>

Funny you should mention the old timers because it’s hard not to look back at prices just a few decades ago.

My senior year in High School I pumped gas at the local CONOCO (Yep, those were the “full service” days – Pump the gas, check all four tires, check the oil, and clean all of the windows). At that time gas was right around 19 cents a gallon. You could get 5 gallons for a buck. Put a in dollar’s worth and cruise around town all night. Of course, I was only making $1.25/hr. Even so, at this week’s gas prices that ratio would equate to about $28/hr. Not bad for a high school pump jockey.</SPAN>

Then there were the occasional “gas wars” (not to be confused with the fake-reality “wars” shows on TV) and gas would actually go even lower.</SPAN>

Good thing about getting old is........ you can always fudge your numbers.

19 cents a gallon was in the late 30's and 40's
1.25 minimum wage was early 60's

???

Stock market is being propped up by QE 4 or whatever number QE we are at. Looks like the market cycle will top out after Memorial weekend into June and be down the rest of the year. Lock in gains and buy back lower. I am all cash and waiting for a decent drop.

Overall Market pretty good but went up too much too fast going to be a pullback. August always sucks may pop the bubble by then or in August. Time to sell wait for better buying prices big turnaround to the downside today investors spooked by Fed. Guidence still pretty good so back to comfort & guts about market for summer.
