Soaring gas prices in Northern WI

My two favorite restaurants in the Iron River area closed down last year, Westwood II in Crystal Falls and Woodzy's in Iron River. Only decent bar and grill left in the area is the Rusty Saw Blade in Amasa and maybe the Wooden Nickle west of town.

My wife and I almost bought the old Huttenbar Resort a few years ago, talked ourselves out of that idea lol

We were hanging in IR for the day so Rusty Saw Blade & the Wooden Nickle ran thur my mind but didn't want to drive that far. I like both of those too. Huttenbar Resort in Phelps hanging in there but I have not been there in awhile.

The stock market is doing well because the Fed just keeps printing money.

Gas was $4.19 when I left Spooner on Monday and it's only $3.25 here in New Orleans where I'm at on biz.

Stock market is being propped up by QE 4 or whatever number QE we are at. Looks like the market cycle will top out after Memorial weekend into June and be down the rest of the year. Lock in gains and buy back lower. I am all cash and waiting for a decent drop.

I am wondering if I should do the same. I have plenty of years left of work, but wondering if it's time to move some assets out of the market and sit on the sideline for a little way.

Good thing about getting old is........ you can always fudge your numbers.

19 cents a gallon was in the late 30's and 40's
1.25 minimum wage was early 60's

???

What a wise guy. I'll leave it at that.

Not sure of the motivation behind this post. If it was to make me look senile and foolish, my wife accomplishes that on a daily basis with far less effort.

What it does suggest is that my experience couldn’t possibly have been the case because it is not corroborated by internet generalizations.

Yes, I can google it up and find the average price of gas throughout the years and yes, .19/gal was stated to be the average price in the 30’s and 40’s and yes, the average minimum wage was stated to be $1.25 in the 60’s. This being said, many sources also state that the AVERAGE gas price in 1965 was .31/gal. This means that in some areas it was likely selling for .40/gal while selling for .20/gal (or less) in others.

Unless one worked at or was familiar with the same station at the same time, I don’t know how one could know what it was charging for gas at that time. I suppose it’s possible that it was all a dream but it was a good dream.

Don't ya know Skiroule, if its on google its the gospel.

Funny thing is, when I started buying my own toy gas in the early 90's It was .90 cents a gallon. I was working for my neighbor making 3.00 dollars an hr and thought I was doing "ok". According to google, I must be off my rocker too! Lol.

I see in USA Today that my point above was proven yesterday as the Dow fell more than 100 points as traders responded to reports that some Fed policymakers favor trimming Fed bond purchases (printing money). They have been printing $85 billion, yes billion, per month for a long time.

I can confirm that where I was in 1960 gas was regularly .19/gal. Gas wars also occurred and Purple Martin [yes the gas was purple] would go to .14/gal. Good ol days. My buddies would pool our monies at the end of the month and go crusin' on 4 bucks. BTW, I was making .75/hr at the local ice cream store at the time.

Just returned from Canada on a fishing trip. $7-8 bucks a gallon was the norm north of the border..... Comparitively speaking though a gallon of Milk was $16.49......

What a joke?

Amazing how after the holiday weekend gas prices in Milwaukee dropped .20 to $3.79. But still not low enough.

The following was on Channel 5 out of Green Bay today...

This quote from a station owner,

"The most recent spike is because of the Chicago market oil companies are fighting for space on the pipeline. They're paying a premium price to get their fuel in the pipeline".

Wait..what? I thought there was a shortage due to Refinery Maintenance. You can't have it both ways, what is it too much gasoline now or not enough. Maybe there's a glut and a shortage at the same time. Either way we're going to be paying $4 for a gallon. These guys need to get their story straight so they're all telling the same lie.
