Stand-up riding

I am probably being too negative, but I just had a few bad experiences this past weekend encountering "stand up" riders...bad timing for me and this topic...

And I have had lots of bad experiences with sit down riders. There are azz clowns all over, some sit down, some stand up. LOL.

I stand up and ride so I can admire my cool airbrush job on the hood.

When I'm standing I can't stand to sit...and when I'm sitting I can't stand to stand. Weird how that works.

To the OP...great choice of bait..... you've limited out.

I think it's all Yamaha guys that sit down and ride......at $15k a sled, you have to sit and enjoy that comfy seat and power steering.......does Yamaha even make a sled you can stand on?????? sorry just having fun....

I ride a newer XP and prefer standing over sitting. I feel more comfortable and depending on the conditions, I feel safer too. I will sit when we get into the tight twisties for a lower center of gravity, but that's about it. There are advantages and disadvantages to both, but as many have stated, it's not about looking cool as much as it is personal preference. Doo what you doo and don't worry about what others think.

As for the backpack question, I got a Klim nac pac for Christmas and love it. My sled has NO storage since I removed the trunk that was attached to the back of my seat. I don't carry a gourmet meal, but an extra pair of gloves, spark plugs, quart of oil, and a few tools is about it for me. It also comes in handy when I need take a layer of clothes off when I get hot.

My 66 year old dad has been stand-up riding *all-the-time* for the past two years now that he has a rider-forward sled and raised handlebars. You old-fart 40-something year olds probably think he's some punk kid when you see him on the trail.

BTW, I'm over 40 too and stand-up ride unless it's towards the end of the day and I'm pooped. Stand-up riding allows one to more quickly and effectively transfer weight on the trail making the sled more, not less responsive, to rider input.

Yamahaha now has power steering. Yawn.

Skylar, when your as short as we are nobody can tell if you are standing or sitting,HAHAHAHA on the trail I usually sit off trail I stand, I ride an old sled still have a trunk and under the hood for the garden tools and lunch!!

Good one Bradzoo!!

This thread is a blast to read! LOVE IT! Y'all are too funny!

I ride standing and sitting - it all depends on how my arse and back feel, the trail conditions and if I'm off trail or not. I stand up at stop signs and when crossing roads - I can see better if I stand up to check if there is anyone or anything coming.

Backpack - I have yet to get one - I have a sled bag and a little trunk that I use. Jim and Doug both have backpacks, Jim uses his mostly out West - Doug uses his all the time. His is like a magician's hat... all kinds of surprises in there!

You have to have a back pack out West - if you and your sled part company - you need all your emergency supplies with you not your sled.

REV IT UPx3!

No XP riders out there try to lean back and put there calfs on the side pannels? Even more relaxing with a riser on.

I sit so I can take advantage of the heated seat.

I do question the comments about better control while standing. You ever hit a pile of snow left by two sleds taking off full throttle from a dead stop on a perfectly groomed trail 3 miles strait while doing XXX?

Glad my feet were locked under the toe holds. Actually sheared off a suspension bolt.
