I wore mine for the first time this last week when we were riding. You really do forget they are there.I did notice the plastic on them get a little cold when it is below 0 and I could feel that. But, the added security of having it is reassuring. Now I just want to get them for the rest of my family.

I don't wear one, interesting tho cause I rode horses all my life and would never get on one with out a helmet and I got many people to wear helmets.

Thinking about it.....

I have to say, this is one of the better topics I have read in awhile. I will admit I do not wear one. I also am not afraid to admit that until reading this post I did not even know what one was. After looking up one looks like, I think they are a great idea. I trail ride all the time and still have hit the handle bars several times. And yes, I am a cautious driver. I don't think it is a question of right or wrong if you wear one. There are multiple ways to reduce the risk of serious injury and if there are ways to reduce the risk I am all for it. I look at it as you can do everything right and still get into an accident. For me it is just nice to know what is out there. Then from that point it is up to the individual to decide if they want to get one. I am certainly going to look into purchasing one. Heck, I have even thought about wearing a mouthguard while snowmobiling. I have hit some bumps in the past which has caused me to slam my teeth together. I was lucky those times and did not chip any teeth.

Anyone know if any of the JohnDee site supporters/advertisers sell TekVests?

Not sure if it it would be allowed or if they would have any interest in participating in a "group buy" if enough people would commit to buying the product.

I've seen on other motorsports forums where they did "group buys" and it helps generate some business for the selling store and helps get a better price on the product for forum members.

Just a thought.

XCSP, I know some other sites like Snowest put group buys together but Im not sure if any of the dealers on this site have them. Sled Solutions may be the best outlet for something like this!!! Paul might have to chime in if he can do anything like that.

I stopped at Waldoch Sports in Forest Lake MN and they had there Klim vest on 15% off. I ended up buying a brand new Klim for $175 on Snowest today.

I ride with one. Almost 4 years ago I got seriously hurt at the Lake Geneva Snocross race. Yes I had one on, but it was a freak accident and I lost 60% of my pancreas and all of my spleen. It was suppose to be my last race of my 8 year career (not much of a shining career, but I was in to it big time) As I was laying there at the emergency center in a daze, all I could see was my preganant wife and 3 year old son. To make a long story short, I recovered and only have minor health problems from it. We were blessed with another healthy son. Both my sons have taken up ridin sleds and they both have chest protectors. As for me, I couldn't give up riding, doctors said to just protect my internals...so puttin on my tekvest is just like puttin on gloves and a helmet. I guess what I am saying is you just never know when something major is going to happen.

I didn't vote because, "I know what it is but I don't have one..", wasn't one of the options. After reading this I realize it's time to start shopping, especially since I am SO new to this sport. I'd be very interested in a group buy! I'll be shopping anyway, one for me and one for my husband.

I've been thinking about it for a couple years, I always wear my chest protector on my bikes wether racing or just out riding. If a group buy happens count me in, otherwise I think I'll be shoping around for one.

IMO it is important to racers and those doing that type of riding. Similar to moto-x racers, they wear chest protectors but when is the last time you've seen a guy on a harley wearing a tekvest, or a guy on a 4-wheeler for that matter. If someone has I'd like to see the pic's they'd be funny. I'd say do whatever you're comfortable with, I don't use one and feel comfortable with my riding style without one.

As I mentioned earlier, I bought a Tekvest Freestyle on Ebay for $100.00. It had BRP patches on it that I took off and it looks just like the Klim version. Don't get hung up on the Klim brand as they are all made by Tekvest. There are also other, more pocket book friendly, brands out there as well. I bought the kids a pair of sixsixone protectors after our ATV accident last spring on clearance for $30.00 apiece. Search on Ebay for "chest protector" or "roost guard" and you will find many different brands and styles (you will get alot of baseball stuff to sift through) and do the research from there.

I love mine and wish I had bought one a long time ago.

Good luck!

I'm more concerened with safety than looks. Besides, mine is under my jacket and you wouldn't know I was wearing it unless you punched me. :)

I'm comfortable riding without one with my riding style as well but you never know the riding ability or style of the dude coming around the corner at you.

I won't let the kids get on an ATV or sled without them on. Not after what I went through last year. Besides, they think they look cool with them on.

To each his own, I guess.

I've seen people riding 4-wheelers (and dirt bikes) wearing protective vests. Trees & rocks aren't any less painful in the summer.

Guys on a Harley wearing one? Good one!! Most don't even wear a helmet, which is their choice.

I agree in do what you're comfortable with, and even though you may have a safe riding style, you never know when something out of your control could put you in a situation that wearing proper safety gear could minimize possible injuries.

So many times I have personally experienced the "surprised rider" coming around a curve or over a hill not expecting to see someone coming from the other direction-some close calls-luckily nothing worse.

I recall seeing an ad from Honda saying "Stupid Hurts" and another somewhere else, not sure by whom, but stated "If you have a $10 head, wear a $10 helmet!"

For those that wear the vests, did you have to get bigger jackets to fit the vests under them?

I did not get any larger jacket for mine. But it all depends on how the jacket fits to begin with. I do the layering system and my Jacket is basically a waterproof shell. Layers 1&2 are under my vest. You can always wear your vest over your jacket too (looks way cool). Tekvests have 4" of side adjustments to them.
