TEK Vest Poll

One of the members contacting me regarding a group buy. How many people would be interested in a TekVest?

I'll do my best at getting the best price I can but sounds like a couple guys have gotten them dirt cheap (below my cost) elsewhere.

Just checking interest.

Thanks,
Paul

For those of you that already have Tekvests, does sizing go by weight or chest measurement? I"m not sure if I'd need a XS or a S (by Tekrider standards I'd wear an XS but Klim goes by chest measement and I'd wear a S) I'd want to wear it under my jacket.
Paul, we'd need two vests, a L and mine, XS or S.

Go by the Tekrider chart. I wear an XL but the Klim put me in the XXL range. I was able to try both on first so that helped. If your getting a Freestyle, they have about 4 inches of play to adjust them.

Contact the company

I wasn't sure about the sizing when I was shopping for one and couldn't find them to try on (here in Cincinnati).

I called directly to TekRider and to ask about sizing and they were really helpful in not only determining sizing but deciding which model best fit my riding style. Great customer service, and I'm very satisfied with my vest. (I also picked up a used youth one for my son last year when he got his certificate.)

Here's their contact info from their web site:

I'm short but I'm not THAT small!

We have a guy in our group that is 6' tall and weighs a buck fity (150) A real string bean. He wears a youth large. You can get the youth vests dirt cheap. I think he pd. $90 for it at a dealer (not sure if still in Business) in the Kewenaw that sold Cats and Skidoos. I paid $150 for a klim version of tekvest and Smurfrider pd. $100 for his Medium BRP tekvest. all the vests look alike just different labels. I think that dealer is in Houghton now but not sure.

Got to admit that I knew what these were, but never felt I needed one for trail riding...until now! Quite honestly, this thread has swayed me from "yea, right" to "hey, not a bad idea." Especially now that my daughter has started driving on her own.

Question...I am not skinney by any means. Do they make them for short fat guys and if anyone of my stature has one, how comfortable are they.

THANKS FOR THE AWARENESS !!!

They may go up to xxxl, but you may want to check the tek vest web site. They also adjust 4 " from your size. I wear a XL and I bought a XL vest and it expands as I expand.lol

Started wearing mine this year, twice so far and people are not lying when they say you can't tell your wearing one. Absolutely no restriction on your arms. And there short so when you sit it doesn't shove up into your neck. Very comfortable, more than I thought possible, glad I bought one.

I am 5'5" and 200 lbs, I guess I could be classified as short and fat, I wear a xl vest, fits under my Klim valdez parka, but klim stuff runs small anways.

I should have put in the poll an answer of "Don't have one" but just answer under "what is that" will work. The poll is not scientific, I started it to bring awareness to the product as a safety item. If I helped save a life from doing it, The discussion was all well worth it.

Are you sure you didn't buy stock in Tekrider and now just trying to drive up the value of the shares? LOL

I have to say, this is one of the better topics I have read in awhile. I will admit I do not wear one. I also am not afraid to admit that until reading this post I did not even know what one was. After looking up one looks like, I think they are a great idea. I trail ride all the time and still have hit the handle bars several times. And yes, I am a cautious driver. I don't think it is a question of right or wrong if you wear one. There are multiple ways to reduce the risk of serious injury and if there are ways to reduce the risk I am all for it. I look at it as you can do everything right and still get into an accident. For me it is just nice to know what is out there. Then from that point it is up to the individual to decide if they want to get one. I am certainly going to look into purchasing one. Heck, I have even thought about wearing a mouthguard while snowmobiling. I have hit some bumps in the past which has caused me to slam my teeth together. I was lucky those times and did not chip any teeth.

I just called tekrider and they were very helpful in determining a size in the freestyle model. I was borderline between a M and L and they said to go to the smaller size. If it is too large they said it won't tighten up properly.

With that said, I'm in for a size M freestyle if there is a group buy.

For those that wear the vests, did you have to get bigger jackets to fit the vests under them?

When I first started wearing a tekvest I still had my insulated jacket. I looked like the Pillsbury Dough boy. I now wear just a shell like Wayne mentioned. Same size as I always wore, just with no insulation. So to ansnwer your question, the coat size did not change, the type of coat did. You won't need as much insulation when wearing the vest.
