things encountered on a sled trail

Friend of family was riding his new Doo 2 years ago on the Fox river, just south of Big Bend, WI, where it forks by HWY164. People were following a short trail along a fishing boat access, but bordering a corn field, and he was following tracks as the the lead sled. Didn't see the chain link fence farmer had put up to keep people from entering from road and going into his field, as opposed to the boat access just adjacent. He was found by his riding partners having been severely cut at the neck level, and bled out on the scene. Son knows the brothers, and we know the family. He was a wild kid - tragic. Just got the sled too - late March.

that reminds me....snow cookies and trees....snow cookies can be deadly...not many around here but all over the place out west....although I did hit one in portage and one in bigbay....both threw me off sled....one broke my brake lever and my arm was out for 6 months or so....snow cookies on a mountain pass can kill you and toss you off the switchback...trees...you guys seen that one LMAO

and XXX I was riding the fox river at night heading from petite bay Il to Kenosha....same thing....on the left was a huge field that you could jump into from down on the river by jamming up the bank on a sweeping turn to the right....there were chains across the access landing roads....me and another guy were racing so I was concentrating on the open water holes and the trees sticking out of ice at 45 degree to impale you.....he ended up rolling his sled on the edge of open water while I was passing him on the outside....I love those fields and the river....very dangerous but its why we do this eh....for the fun of being on the edge....this is the film from that night the fields are on either side...I was holding the camera with one hand and no brakes fimin' babay....the orange F7 rolled it....that's the AUTO DOC....LOL....this is when youtube had shatty limits...whenever you see him skid or I pan to blackness that's open water....at 1 min we split open water I left he right

While not finding but I put it there, a GPS survey receiver. A USC&GS 1st Order Survey Bench Mark was near the trial (old RR) and in the winter the trail got wider, big open area. We had to dig 2 ft+ through packed snow to find the bench mark and then set up our receiver for 5.5 hrs. We placed cones around it and had a man there to watch it, expensive equipment

Nothing like that. Federal Base Network Control Surveys

NAD 83(NSRS2007) National Readjustment

A readjustment of all Global Positioning System (GPS) survey control in the United States was completed on February 10, 2007 by the National Geodetic Survey (NGS). The adjustment was undertaken to resolve inconsistencies between the existing statewide High Accuracy Reference Network (HARN) and/or Federal Base Network (FBN) adjustments and the nationwide Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) system, as well as between states, and to develop individual local and network accuracy estimates. For these reasons, on September 24, 2003, NGS' Executive Steering Committee approved a plan for the readjustment of horizontal positions and ellipsoid heights for GPS stations only in the contiguous United States, Alaska, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Classical surveys were not included in this readjustment

Just returned from a 10 day trip in Ontario. Another wonderful, excellent riding experience. Seen a lot of wildlife as I was leading. Grouse, partridge, many a hare, and a very large cat/cougar, and a lone wolf. I was amazed how the cat could handle the deep snow so much better than the wolf could. The wolf couldn't get away fast enough, the cat could have cared less about me being there. He just went about his business as normal. Both the cat, and wolf seen between Foleyet, and Chapleau.

Cool story.
Thanks for sharing. Sounds like a fun trip.
I also run lead. It is surprising how much I see compared to the rest of the group.

That wolf has too much body mass for those paws to keep on top of loose snow.

Ok so more than one of us has come across "ONE" car or truck in the trail. but how about this? Three? (I was told there were 15 the night before... These were Just the stuck ones.)

IMAG1266.jpg

The orange RAM along with 3 other trucks (not in the picture yet) where just pulling up as I finally got the camera out. They tried pulling the Grand Prix (look to the left of the RAM) out the night before. They had it hooked to the passenger side rear rim and lets just say the wheel was not in the correct location anymore... Oh this was New Years Day 2016 North of Sidnaw. As approaching for about a 1/2 mile we noticed empty beer cans hear and there down the trail. About the same as we left and continued on but also found the empty case...

Found the light bar that fell off the recreational sheriffs sled, could have had a lot of fun with it, but returned it to him :)

Came across an Ostrich on the trail years ago. Unfortunately this was before smartphones so could not take a picture.
