I'm just asking, why the fuss now?

Its all about the numbers. 10-15 years ago there was 3-4 people cutting through on a given weekend. Nobody cared or took notice. Now there are 100 people cutting through on any given weekend. People start to care. Thats all there is to it.

What I read into what you wrote was, hay as long as the landowner is not there watching there property 24/7 who cares if we ride through it? I do ATV and Snowmobile and yes I have been on the power lines or gas lines before I knew it was illegal. That did not make it right, and as soon as I found out I stopped long before that thread was put on here. What some people do and its the minority not the majority is they go where ever when ever they want to with the simple thought process of hay people have been doing it for years why stop now. And alot of the land that used to be owned by logging companys is now sold off and is private property, and before when the logging companys either didnt care or didnt know people where using the land. Now that it is privately owned it seems like no matter what the land owner does from simple posting to blocking access people out there still intentionally damage propery by taking down signs or distroying gates so they can go where they want when they want no matter who says otherwise.
radsrh, you misunderstand what I meant. Open your mind and read between the lines. My walking or bike riding is just a simplified example. I don't advocate trespassing, tho I have ridden power and gas lines just as I'm sure you have. I typically stay on marked trails or rt of ways mainly because I don't know what's under me otherwise. I'm just asking, why the fuss now? Folks have been doing it forever and tho that don't make it right, was there a straw the broke the camels back? My comment was... as I have family in two suburban police depts here... Law enforcement doesn't "typically" go after someone for a simple trespass unless there are complaints. In other words, the police don't know if my neighbors even care if I ride thru their yard is basically what I'm sayin.

I also understand the issue of liability. There's a awful lot of stupid people that are nothing but a danger to themselves and want to blame everyone else.

And as Forrest Gump would say..."That's all I have to say about that."

One more time, then I'm done.
Since my first question, as phrased, clearly got passed you. Was there an incident, accident, lawsuit, etc that may have "opened the eyes" of these land owners/caretakers that motorized recreationist were using/abusing what is theirs? Or did the owners finally get fed up with people going passed signs, barricades, etc?
I was also saying that, if I'm standing on my neighbor prop. without his consent, the police aren't gonna cite me or arrest me unless he calls them to make a complaint. Soooo, did those who own finally pitch a bitch?
Frankly, since I don't ride 'em, I really couldn't care less but your holier than thou attitude got my crock goin. See how easy it was for snoluver1 to get it? I better not catch you drivin over the speed limit either. And BTW... It's "hey" not hay and "they're and "their" not there. How's that get YOUR crock goin? :p

John I often ride the power lines while riding up near South Range, is this off limits? If so I don't want to tread where we are not supposed to be. The last thing I or our group wants to be responsible for is shutting part of our sport down.

I really cannot say for sure. There are certainly sections of powerline down that way that would be off limits, but I cannot say for sure if they all are.

Sorry I could not be of more help.

It was funny when it happend....(as i giggle laying in a brush pile) The sled and me were fine. The hill had a "bump" that through me off and at the time it was like slow motion as it tipped. I was just hoping it didnt hit the trees on the ground that i hit! lol

There is private land everywhere, my neighbor up at my cabin owns some of it, he told me basically they have an easement for maintenance for the powerlines and supporting structure thats it. Im not an expert at Michigan law but basically when one snowmobiles down the highline they are tresspassing when they cross his acreage.

And pytavey, it's past, not "passed", also it's either driving or drivin', not "drivin" likewise, it's either going or goin', not "goin".
(So how's your crock doin' now?) :p

For those saying they "ride the power lines all the time" anywhere and anytime and "always have" and are now asking if its legal or tresspassing - - Shouldnt you maybe have thought about the answer before and then made a decision ?

Yeah... You got me with passed... I mean past. But the rest is intentional. I'm too lazy to swing me pinky over to the apostrophe. But good catch.
