Yeah you can ride ditches as much as you want. People will complain about it but as long as you are in the legal right away of the road there is nothing they can do to you. For all of you that have Facebook Walworth County Snowmobile Alliance posted a few pictures from the southern portion of the county yesterday and you will see from these pictures the reason the trails are not open. The northern half I would say looks better than the southern half but Walworth usually opens as a whole county not in portions. Chisel plowed fields will break your teeth right now. Even if they were open I would not recommend it. A couple more inches with no winds should get things going for us. Let's hope things change for the storm heading our way Friday/ Saturday. Last I saw we might get a little rain/ sleet first before the snow. They did say measurable snow but I guess the trails opening will depend on how much rain comes first. At least the following week looks to be cold again.

For those of you who like to ride around here and like the up north feel the Kettle Moraine trails opened in Waukesha county. Eagle and Mukwonago trails are still closed but some nice riding can be done in the Kettle Moraine as it is mostly woods with multiple loops. Here is the map http://www.sussexsledbugs.org/trails_maps/maps/waukeshacountytrails.pdf The Kettle Moraine trail are the ones marked state forest trails. They lead up to Eagle. Parking lots are marked. I did see groomer out yesterday on way home from work. Enjoy.

For all the years I can remember snowmobiling (about 23) it been below 32 degrees and at least 6" of snow before trails can open. I can also say most of the trails in Walworth co are in fields and they blew right down the hard 2-3" of ice/snow from last storm and all the chisel plowed fields are half bare with all the stops showing. And in today's world it is a lot harder to get and keep snowmobile trails on private property and you have to error on the side of caution when opening trails. Just have to wait until we get another good snow, my guess is another 4-6" at least to open trails.

LOL...I go back a few decades longer....no hotlines no internet, Maybe individuals were bright enough back then to decide if the trails were ridable or not based on frost in the ground and,... ok,.... lets say it was 6"of snow cover......nowadays we put the decision in the hands of just a few.
We would go out and ride based on that criteria and if the fields were blown bare, we went back ....pretty simple.

The problems have ALREADY started here in Rock county. 2 sleds from IL were spotted in Clinton and when they were told the trails weren't open they told my buddy to FO and they flipped him off. We are on the verge of losing a pretty good section over here because of this crap.....

Yur buddy was close enough to get there reg numbers then.

Its too bad entire counties are being opened and closed as a single unit. Thats a lot of territory especially in Rock and Walworth co. Once we have good frost in the ground I think the trails should open if most of a certain co. has snow cover.
And no I am not saying Rock Co is ready to open....Haven't driven through it lately, but the key here is frozen ground.

The travel WI snow conditions report is a great tool for opening and closing Counties. The site has really improved over the past few years and allows multiple reports from any part of a certain Co.
It would be great to see every club/trail boss on board to make that site the go to for the entire state.

The Kettle Moraine Forest is always open. You can ride over to Palmyra and stop at Rushing Waters for a drink while staying on Kettle Moraine trails, it's all legal.

122, Have you ridden through the forest trails yet, any reports?

The forest has been getting groomed, its a little thin but you can ride. Had some buddies there Wed before it got warm, and they said to watch for rocks. If you have not ever been there always keep in eye out for rocks as it takes a lot of snow to get them all covered. Not sure what it will be like after these the warm weather we have now

I have not been out there since Jan 2. The trails were fair to good at that time, but it has rained since then. I live near the kettle moraine forest and I heard sleds out there last night. Don't go north of Eagle, they are logging in that area.

Yes, our club has been grooming the forest.

They have been grooming Walworth Counties trails. Hopefully we get some more snow to open them up. Our club (East Troy Snow Trojans) has our Brat Bash Fundraiser January 30th 12-5pm at the Eagle Springs Pub in Eagle, WI. Come out and have some fun. Raffle tickets still available for 1st prize 1/4steer and processing, 2nd prize GoPro, and 3rd Prize $50. Meat and booze raffles and door prizes. Brats, Chili and Drinks! Hopefully we can get trails open before the event. But it will be held regardless if trails are open or not.

Good news about the grooming.

With the lack of snow, why not check out the Racine Co Snowmobile Alliance Winterfest at Great Lakes Dragaway this coming Sat. 1/23/16

Snow has been stock piled for the radar run. Bring your sled and ride the grounds and see what she'll do on the track.

It was a real good turn out for the first year in this new location and what a great venue to build this event on.
I heard that the bikini run raised several hundred dollars for Susan B Coleman BCAF.

It's getting to the point that I will be surprised if SE Wisco gets good enough conditions to ride on this winter. I hope I'm wrong! Load em up and head a little northwest this weekend!

Yeah not a good winter at all but it was expected with it being el nino. I heard Feb will be the snowiest month but it will also be warmer than average will not be good even if it does snow. Fingers crossed that we get some good snow the last few weeks of winter down here. Luckily I am heading to Mercer in the morning to finally get on the snowmachine this year.

Got a good combo of ice, sleet and snow that has been coming down here in East Troy for about 2 hours now. No rain as of yet. I guess that is the only good thing we got going for us, but I am sure southern half of county is probably getting all rain. We will need a solid cool down and more snow to get anything going around here. With only a month or so left of the season for down here we need a lot of good things to happen in that time frame. Head just a few hours north and west to play for this weekend I guess. Looks like Prairie Du Chien north up to La Crosse/ Onalaska then east to Wisconsin Dells, Tomah, and New Lisbon are pretty much in the bulls eye for this storm. Good thing that is only 2-3 hours worth of driving to find some good snow.

yup that's where one needs to go or up north after this storm.
I'm about positive they won't open this year unless we get a freak 12 inch storm one day.
after the warm weekend we're back to square one with standing water everywhere and nothing frozen.
From Feb 1 to Feb 28 we gain 90 minutes of day light. that don't bode well considering where we stand today.

that will make two years in a row for Washington Co. that the trails did not open south of Hwy. 60. I think they may have been open this past weekend north of hwy 60 as I saw tracks on trails on Saturday but it was down to complete mud. not sure if someone was riding illegal or if they opened like mid week for a couple of days. regardless it had to of sucked.
