Well the cold is here and looks like all the wet holes in fields and ditches have froze up and should stay that way for the week with the cold. We picked up about an inch in last day or so. For most part we are starting over. There are a few spots that had hard icy base that managed to still hold a little bit of snow. Looking at the next 10 day forecast we might get inch or two tonight and another 1-3" Sunday. But another warm up next week sounds like it will nock us back to ZERO. I would bet the season is damn near one that never existed here this year. I would be surprised if the trails opened at all. Would take one big storm with some cold temps to get us out at all this year. Better luck next year I guess....

Well John's 5-10 day looks nice. Too bad that didn't happen earlier! Local weather guys first mentioned storm for next week Tuesday last night. I guess we will have to see. Maybe it will give us a last shot to play around a little bit. Better late than never I guess.

Only thing I am hoping for is not to get a lot of rain with the big thaw before the snow. That could make a lot of problems for getting trails open if we get a big dump. Only time will tell

It sure would be nice to get some local riding before the season is over. Gonna have to be quite a storm since most of us are starting from bare ground again. LET IT SNOW!

I hate to say it but I kinda want this snow to go north of us. I would rather have to drive a couple hours to ride than watch the snow go to waste around here. The fields are so wet in Kenosha i would be suprised if the trails would open even with a bunch of snow. 50's this weekend isnt going to help matters either.

Looks like as of this morning we will get hit. 5-8" is what it sounded like. Wont be around long but I guess it is something.

hard to say, it would take all of 8 to maybe do it. But they are also calling for high winds which does not bode well either. Time will tell.

You're joking right???
On sunday I dug a patch out of my yard that I'm going to be planting raspberries in this spirng. the 6-10 inches I dug into was thawed with worms crawling around.
And I'm 45 minutes north of you in Washington Co.

Do you think they will open any of the SE Wisconsin counties?

If we get 6" or more it wouldn't surprise me if a few of them open up for a couple days. At this point it doesn't matter they will only be open until the weekend if they do open. I would guess with the temps cold this week would be the only thing that would open them if it doesn't blow around everywhere. Will be done by Saturday with highs above freezing. Either way I might not get my nice sled out but any snow is enough to mess around on my skeeter. 😄

Same thing here last week. 6", 12", 18" fell in different areas. Trails opened up long enough to run them into mud in just 1.5 days. Kind of melted from the bottom up.
I did get some nice pics of wheat damage.

Agreed. The robins are already back and harvesting worms here in Green County. With the warm wet ground insulated by the fresh fall of snow, we'll be seeing mud after a few sleds ride over it.

The fat lady has sung! About 2-3" at my house north of Elkhorn when I left for work. I heard the storm ran into dry air and snow totals would be around 2-4" with the 4" amounts on the shores of lake Michigan. Looking at the 7-10 day IMO the season that never was in SE Wi is now over!!

2" blowing around in East Troy. HAHA and Elkhorn closed schools I heard? WOW That would be why you don't close schools the night before prior to nothing falling on the ground yet. For the record John's forecast was pretty much spot on with this one. He has us in 1-4" range yesterday when everyone else had us with major winter storm 6-8"! OMG world coming to end!!! Close schools, pre-salt roads, start reporting on big snow on news at 4AM, Stock up on supplies, etc. LOL JOKE March 1st must be the new April fools.... lord knows there are a lot of fools in society today. And we all got fooled on this one.

Its has become absolutely comical when an approaching storm is coming and they immediately start shutting down school.
Watching the weather report at 10:00 last night, Vince Condella is calling for 4-6 in Racine and I'm watching on the bottom of my screen all these school closings scrolling by. I'm like ***?!?!?

Since when did we start closing schools in anticipation of a 6 inch snow fall??

"Since when did we start closing schools in anticipation of a 6 inch snow fall??"

Since.....Lawyers and Citizens started suing for any reason possible, school districts are in fear. It is pathetic!

I totally agree with you guys. I'm just south of you across the border and everyone here freaks out about a snowstorm coming. When there's a tornado watch no thinks twice about it, but a snowstorm, "What are we going to do?" I pay little attention to the news weathermen and follow it on this site or other weather sites. Less dramatic. I've owned a snowmobile for 30 years and this was the worst season. 16 miles ridden.

Well I live on the trail in Walworth Co and got 0 miles on down here as they never opened, in fact my sled never even left the trailer to go take lap in the field. But I got over 1,000 on up north. If I did not go north I would prob get out of the sport as its only 1 in about 5 years that is actually good down here. And that was 2 years ago when were were spoiled as far as riding in S. Wi goes. Hoping next year is better. Lots of work putting all the signs in for nothing, and we had a lot of new members who are loosing interest fast going " wow all this work not to ride" hopefully they stay involved.

Yeah I live on the trail as well in East Troy. 0 miles down here maybe drove sled around the yard once or twice to load in the trailer. I have 850miles on with 3 trips north. 2 of the 3 trips were short trips squeezed in on the weekends or when I was off work. My 4th trip was with my 1970 Johnson Skee Horse, that trip doesn't count as we only muster out maybe 80 miles on that old iron from Thursday to Sunday. Worst year I have had since I started the sport 16 years ago. Normally I am near 2,000 miles a year and I can usually manage at least 400-500 miles in SE WI trails, lakes and rivers. Being the trail boss for the East Troy club we had a lot of new members this year hopefully that keeps up and the lousy year does not deter them. Soon we will be looking for helpers to pull out the trails and this will be a first for me to pull them out without the trails ever being used.

On the plus side actually has been snowing here pretty hard for a few hours now. Looks like on radar that is about to come to an end though.
