Drove by there at 1:30 and there was no activity. Came back at 7PM and hotel was all dark. Wonder when they are going to start!

Can't they just have one of those random Northwoods March fires that brings the place down??? Then they collect insurance money, build new and we will all be happy!

In all seriousness, none of this comes as a surprise. Last time I was there was three years ago and it was dirty / run down then. It clearly showed that they haven't invested one dollar into that place since new.

Schit...call me an idiot all you want....you UP folks sound inbred when it comes to protecting your fellow business kin....if this is a health issue.... I hope to gawd you friendly folks don't try to cover it up. This is beyond "hush hush" ONLY because the hotel is NOT forthcoming with information to past and present GUESTS.

Tribal issue....LOL....and the casino is still open?...OK

Will anyone who lurks here and reads this stay there if this remains hush-hush?...best to come clean.

I thought I had info from a good source, but it turned out it was not so. I should have listened to John and not commented. The truth will come out eventually. Why it hasn't yet I have no idea. But I do believe most of us up here try to give you the best information that we can. Accusing us of trying to cover something up and protect other businesses? LOL dude you don't know the people in the UP at all.

I agree. It is also my opinion that is was not a good idea for then to not say what it was right away, no matter what. Letting peoples imagination run wild with speculation usually does more damage than getting the truth out right away.

This is a PR nightmare that could have been avoided with the proper guidance.

Will "you" stay there? I can say I never will.....I don't care what they say or do. The damage has been done.

I thought I had read somewhere that the person was diagnosed with Legionnaire's back in December, but now I can't find any info on when the person was diagnosed??? Anyone know? This is really too bad as I am sure the whole business will take a huge hit. I know I would not be a patron of the Casino even though that part is said to be tested and negative.

Years ago stayed at Wycolo Lodge in WY - day we got back 2 of the 3 of us got sicker than a dog... for weeks. 5-6 weeks later got a call from the Board of Health in WY letting us know that anyone that stayed during that month was exposed to Norwalk Virus. Septic leaked into the well. Took that long before they contacted anyone. Took months to get completely over that. :(

I have stayed there numerous times and recently as well and will continue in the future once resolved. They have to close out an abundance of caution per protocol once confirming the issue and corrected you have no greater risk here than anywhere else. They continue to provide decent lodging at a competitive price. I'm sure that you also won't ever eat at Chipolte!!

I work on cooling towers for a living. Some of you people need to hit the old Google search option. John has already spelled out some of the obvious. I know of plenty of buildings that tested positive for it and didn't shut down.

We checked into Watersmeet Casino hotel on Sunday and hot tub was closed. Pool was open with tons of kids. If it is Legioneer disease why are they not disclosing to the people like me who stayed there? They made us leave abruptly and we asked several questions why and all they would say is it is an emergency. If it affects my health why are they not mandated on telling me so i can take precautions..........wondering if I should see a doctor and get checked out because early detection will be the key in diagnosing this. I shouldnt be sitting here worrying about my health and speculating about the closure.......not fair to me at all.

Ya it may be present in some amounts in a lot of buildings. When its found it should be disclosed. Once it has infected people. Especially to the people who may have been at risk. What's the incubation period of this? If it were something that just makes you ill for a time is one thing. But this can be deadly. Don't think they handled it well at all.

Now lets not get crazy Snirt. Chipolte is delicious...I could never stay away! ;)

I have never eaten Chipotle. Since they have had several illness issues in the last couple years, until I hear that they have overhauled their food handling procedures I may not ever try them.
Mexican food is one of my favorites too, not like I'm not going somewhere that I wouldn't enjoy.

Cooling towers are a open system, that's how a evaporative tower works. It can take days to get samples and a week to get results. The cultures have to be grown. I have stayed at this hotel in the past and will stay there in the future.

I wonder who makes the call on telling the public about issues like this? The health dept didn't think it was enough of threat to general public? So they leave it to the affected business to reveal it? Maybe not as serious as led to believe. I still think it should have been disclosed quicker than it was.
The main reason I'm upset about the disclosure of this hinges around the fact that when I bought my house in Oakdale it was known by the residents that 3M had poisoned the groundwater. Even though they were in process of building a filtration system to fix the problem. I think it should've been disclosed to us when buying the house. Even if it wasn't a disclosure item! Never had skin problems on St Paul water, have had rash issues ever since moving in here. They claim it's safe, I have to wonder .

One other bit of info. You cannot catch it from drinking water. It is a respiratory infection, so you have to inhale water vapor that has the bacterium in it.

Also it responds very well to antibiotics. I am not saying it cannot get real serious, just that most cases are treated without issue. By the time someone has to be hospitalized for it, some other kind of ailment is usually at work too. Like heart disease, cancer, weakened immune system. When I caught it and the Dr told me, I freaked out, but he chuckled and said I would be feeling better in 24 hours after going on the antibiotic and he was right.

So serious? Yep it can be VERY, but the vast majority of people are able to fight it off with their own defenses, others respond very well to antibiotics and those that already have a pretty serious ailment are at the largest risk for serious problems.
