What if they made an old sled again?

Anything with a triple-triple. Preferable with 2020s Fuel Injection. Trailing arms or a-arms dont care. Just put a seat riser or something on it.

aaaah….miss that sound! had a 95 zrt800, after jetting it back 4 sizes no longer ate plugs, and for an engine with proned issues, went on to 9000 miles. Miss that sled too, sounded cool too!

I agree with Whitedust on this. The only thing I miss is the sound of a triple like many others have said.

If you guys are really into listening to triples you're in luck. Next years' Midwest Ride-in is highlighting all the TRIPLES from the past. Should be a blast. I had a '98 triple/triple that I liked but don't miss it much!!!

I think you triple triple with FI guys would be perfectly happy on an Apex. 2011 and up are preferred.

I agree. Raise the seat up a couple inches and Id be very happy with a properly set up Apex, at least until the moguls showed up. But thats the same for the old sleds too.

And IMO the 4 banger at 10k rpm sounds better than a triple triple, except maybe the SRX.

The Yamaha Apex never went full on atv rider up forward feel.
Kind of the hybrid between old sit down and rider too far forward of today.

My Polaris Indy Ultra with the extra 12 suspension if I remember right

x2 on the xtra12 but with the XLT triple. I rode that sled almost like my XP, up on the bars with my feet behind me, so it was like the rider forward style of today even back then(well sort of) just a lot lower to the ground although xtra12 was a tall sled

man I'd have to say it would come down to what the price tag was on it?
as I ain't as young as I was yrs back and the handling and ride quality , sitting position would be pretty hard on me
and I know this due to I did a ground up full rebuild on a 1997 model sled 3 yrs ago, even tried to add some better shocks, and it was too much for my old body to ride more than a few minutes

But I do admit I loved the looks, and sounds it made, like a classic hot rod car!
so depending the price tag, I might be tempted to buy another new older sled, if for nothing else to sit around and look at it and take it for a spin when conditions are smooth and or small runs

but if they priced them like new sleds now>?
that's a lot of $$$ to have a dust collector and space taker upper! LOL

OH and it would be nice, if they kept the same old DATE/Yr on them, so you could still register them as classic' or vintage sleds , to help justify owning one!

How about an '89 Inviter. Was the wife's sled and she loved it. Only single cylinder so build one with a small 2, but it rode nice. kind of designed like a motorcycle in a way.

Not to belabor the Apex but I assume you've tried an '11 or newer Apex and weren't impressed?

My current sled is an 2012 XTX with 4,500 miles on it and just sold my 2011 XTX about a month ago which had 2,400 miles on it. Yes, I love the sled but as many other Yamaha customers were waiting for the next version/upgrade/evolution...call it what you want...of that model sled. It never happened. Now it appears I'm heading over to Doo. I rode Whitedust's enduro and was very impressed. My son's 2015 Viper (Yamicat) has been an issue for 3 years in a row. Yesterday with about 20 miles left to go on our 250 mile trip something broke in, what I think is the chain case and I had to tow him home with my XTX. Yamicat reliability sucks and I'm done. Heading out today to try and find a Doo with my son so we can ride while we have snow.

This is what I sold last month.

My '15 Apex XTX is my favorite sled so far. I had a '07 RTX as well, but much preferred riding the XTX.
I am hoping Yamaha brings something special for 2021. Otherwise I'll be on the hunt for a 2018 Apex.

I've had and enjoyed plenty of older Poos. But I am done with 2 strokes forever.
I like stink-free clothes, long term/range reliability, and not needing to carry oil around.
Yeah blah blah heavy sleds....I ain't carrying them around on my back. They are heaven on the trails.
