Polaris has 8, Cat has 13, and Doo has 6. 121 isn't going anywhere. The reason Yamaha is going away from 121 is because their suspensions are so bad, they need something longer to bridge the bumps. Sad but true. The choices are more limited nowadays anyways as far as engine sizes go, that it makes less and less 121's. Cat will have a few more 121's sometime soon with their 600 DI. No, the 600 2-smoke from Cat is NOT going anywhere either, they just couldn't include a 600 2-smoker to pass the 2012 EPA regulations. That will put them over 15 easily.

Indy, just curious, have you ever ridden a newer Yamaha? Just wondering why you think the suspension is so bad. I rode an 06 Yamaha and thought it is fine. Sad but true.

whitedust is yamahas biggest cheerleader on this board. Glad he found a sled that works for him, but he also has to remember not everyone rides like him. Not everyone wants a 128" or longer track either. But on the bright side, if I ever wanted to go back to a yamaha at least Id know who to ask.

Sure I ride Yamaha & Yam still has at least 5ea 121 sleds in 2012. This is about track length not the brand I ride & don't know why you guys can't read what is posted instead of making stuff up that is not posted? All I referenced to Yam was 144 tipped seemed too long when introduced on XTX but now seems ok. You guys need to think outside the box & your brand. I'm on a Yam now had all brands in the past & consider all OEM sleds when I read them up & buy. I do favor 4s over 2s & happy to see a lot more 4s from AC but I also like etek too. Sooooooo back to the future of 121 tracks all brands? All brand 2012 lines ups showing a lot less 121s simple as that. A 1 year trend or is the market going to 128 & greater? Not sure Cat has 121 this year that I saw in American Snomo Mag buyers guide. Just bringing 2012 track lengths to your attention & track lengths are changing all brands & that is fact regardless of what sled I ride.:)

I've owned every brand and owned 121" and 136". And spent extensive time on 144" too. Im not brand loyal, nor am I track length loyal. But for my kind of riding 136" and longer, and any Yamaha on the market doesnt work. I dont think 121" is going anywhere.

Whitedust, you have a history of pushing your 4s yamaha beliefs on this board. Thats why people sometimes jump yer sh!t. Just the way it is.

Again not about Yamaha & I'm not pushing Yamaha 4s you guys are all about Yamaha in this post not me just read the thread see for yourself. Seems pointless to me to keep bringing up Yam regarding this thread because not what it is about. If you want to bash Yamaha start a thread that is somehow related to Yamaha & go at it. I'm not into bashing any brand like them all & why I post on JD to avoid bashing discussions.

Again back to topic: Firecatguy is seeing same thing I am no 121s in AC 2012 line up a big change for them going with 128s.

All suspensions aside another reason for going longer is traction. All the new sleds have some serious snort down low and although tracks are a lot better than they used to be there is a need for more of a footprint to hook up. A 700 lb Apex with a 121 will never hook up from a standing start no matter how many studs are used. Too much mass to get going. A light as a feather AC 500 will still get by with a shorter track. We will always have options. Who knows - someday we might be putting on shorter tracks instead of stretch kits.

whitedust, you should follow your own advice

What is it with you? Again this about track length not me not Yamaha. How may times to I need to say it? No wonder members are lurking & don't want to hassled so don't post. Should I have this thread deleted or can we discuss track length?

What is it with you whitedust? You were the one to bring up Yamaha, stating they didnt have a 121 or something like that. I posted in my first post my opinion on the track length issue. Maybe you should learn to read? You dont always have to get so bent outta shape when people dont follow your opinion on stuff....ie; track length, Yamaha's, 4s. Have a good day, and relax a little.

This is pointless I said Yamaha does have 121s read what is posted. I don't care what you ride or that you agree or disagree with my opinion. I want to hear what JD members have to say about the subject. The thread was an inquiry inviting opinions about track lengths not about me not about Yamaha still is about track length. Everybody can enjoy the thread & can comment any opinion they may have but don't make stuff up that is not stated within the thread.....just pointless to do that. I'm out of here got things to do.:)

I suspect 2 main reasons the tracks are getting longer. Getting the power of these higher HP motors that have evolved to the ground without a couple hundred studs. And smoother ride.

That sled went to Tog. 3 times. I put a 144x15x2 challenger track on it then rejetted. Left clutching alone. Worked great up til 13,500 feet then it slowed a bit. I do miss that sled, a fellow JD'er bought it from me.

What engine did your SB have? If it worked ok to 13,500, that's probably enough! Just wondering about the engine size because I keep tossing around the idea of extending my Fusion 600.
