Will The 121 Track Sled Be Extinct?

Ok, I'll give you that. I'd agree that a late 90's Yamaha probably rides and feels like a 10-15 year old sled.

My POS 89 Phazer couldn't handle the bumps like my 06 Fusion either.

I could make a giant list why I dislike yamaha but you guys would just think I'm more and more brand blind. I used to bash Cat so bad and I feel terrible about it. They are built well to how I like my sleds, and are great at innovating new ideas (yes mark your calendar). They don't have many "bad sleds" that they made either. Other than diamond drive, I can't think of too many design flaws I can think of with Cat. They don't have tinfoil tunnels, plastic A-arms, or flying saucer clutches. The procross chassis is really above and beyond, just wonder what they will do when Polaris patent expires on the pro-rate suspension. I'm sure we'll see some whacky stuff come out then. In the meantime I'm going to sit back and watch the SRT vs. Yamaha show :D

The diamond drive is not as bad as some have made it out to be........he the deal if you don't jam the thing in and out of rev to get unstuck and just make sure its in rev or in drive before you slam the gas it will be just fine.......maintain it with new fluid that way you can watch what come out for fluid if its white or has metal shaving.....the only down side to the DD is at engagment it makes a little "Knock" sound and to those who listen to their sled it can be a little well weird.........if any of you dont like your or have upgraded to the BDD please email me i would love to take your stock DD off your hands.....wow indy that Jag made you come to the cat side? wait till you ride one that made in the 20th century...lol

Speaking of those new cats, I want to try out the new crossfire 4 stroke. I read somewhere that they are going to price them similarly to the 600s, since that is what they will be competing with. In my view, this could be a great do everything sled - with the lighter chassis, it should have enough torque and track length to ride in the West or boondock in the UP, and should get enough gas mileage and range to ride 300 mile days on the trails. You might need to swap the track for the west, but still that should be a very versatile sled. And that engine should last a long, long time.

I understand that alot of the riders on here prefer longer tracked sleds. However I am not one of them. There is not a 136" or longer skid on the market that can handle on rails like a 121" I am not a off trail rider and never will be. Its just not my thing. But I guess if they do away with the 121" I will have to adapt. I have a 2010 136" Polaris in the stables now, but its strictly a back-up sled and will probably sell it and get another 121".

I have a 2010 600 IQ 121" that I'd like to trade for a 136." Was I chatting with you last year about that...?

We have been there and done that. Besides at this point in our lives we should be above that. (Bashing).

Amen & X2 to that!

I sure didn't think this was a controversial post when I started it. I had just read American Snowmobile Buyers 2012 Guide & noticed a lot of 121s had moved up to 128 all brands. So I thought it would be fun to see what everyone thought the future of 121 was all brands?:) Holy Moly you would think I banned snow for the 2012 season with some of the emotional reactions & brand bashing which is very unusual for John Dee! I kept trying to redirect this thread back to the topic so everyone could have lighthearted fun & feel free to participate but once brand bashing starts it is difficult to stop. My hat is off to those that participated in a mature unbiased manner in the good hearted spirit that this site demands. To those who brand bashed please rethink your approach just not a part of the JD good neighbor policy. I think we all agree that 121s will still be available for Ricky Races & ultra bump sleds but trail sleds may be moving to 128 & greater for trail comfort in the near future. If you are very attached to your 121 & don't want 128s then better express that to your dealer of choice so it gets fed back to the OEM.
Happy Trails,
whitedust :)

That's why I added the post about my Rupp's. Thought it would sidetrack the issue a little. (didn't help for long)

I thought the Rupp long track comment was indeed funny too & no didn't last long. :)lol

Seems to me that if you a start a thread you should take responsibilty to try to keep it within the JD rules than lay it off on JD & mods. This was a tuf one to keep focused but I tried. As Indy said brand preference was being called out lead to brand bashing then people got fustrated & so on very unlike JD members. We are all snowmobilers why get bent 2s or 4s Yam, Poo,Doo or AC they all make great sleds. I hope we can have fun discuss stuff & refrain from bashing products & people. No fun when that happens.:)

I don't even think there was a lot of brand bashing on this thread. It was actually more bashing about others saying others were bashing than brand bashing itself. A lot of moaning in general. I guess that I'm even adding to it by posting this! haha!

Agree..... too much people bashing & brand bashing both not good for the members that come here to have fun & enjoy each other. To me if you have an issue with someone PM them keep it off the boards don't use words that belittle people as will not end well.

No it wasnt me. Im not sure what sled I want next. It most likely be a new chassis cat or a rush. That is if the 128" track sled corners very good.

Let me know if you think that you'd be interested in a trade. My sled is in great shape and I love it. I just want a longer track.

The trails in N WI and the U.P. arent a sno-x track though. Those sleds dont even have sway bars. They arent even close at railing around a corner. They are strictly point and shoot sleds. Im not trying to stir the pot more, but your comparison isnt even in the ballpark. Either that or your just trying to bait me more......
