Nope.* Although we have had a couple problems over the years, junk batteries stolen, couple tires stolen, for the most part my customer base is about the last group of honest down to earth people left.* I think anyway.**

Generally ag/farm people are good, honest people imo.

I will admit....unlike some of you...I was a bit stunned when kip said the keys are in the sleds. Figured even in Mayberry you'd have to show a drivers license.

I used to bring backup sleds and leave them on the trailer for days, sometimes unattended for days while I back packed to a couple locations. I'll just go home if I have to, and save the worrying if it will be there when I get back. I've had a balaclava taken from on top of my helmet, when there were only 4 other sledders in the restaurant I was in. I don't even put my gear in the "rooms" some places provide for that, don't trust anyone.

I hate to hear something like this happened up there. Then on the same day good old clueless Illinois Governor Pritzker signs a police reform bill which includes "Cash-Less Bail" for non violent crimes. Lets just keep giving the benefit of doubt to the criminals.

Shame on me, I really need to get out of this state.

I was going to go down the same road, but held back - same BLEEP is happening in MN.

It is in Illinois now. Sold for 5 grand. Will be licensed as a 1996 Trail Indy. Nobody will ever know. Except if it gets in a wreck. Then someone will try to sue Kip. Wonderful world we live in.

I'm sorry Kip, after everything you've done over the years for the community and for everything that you've done over the last few weeks to help others in a massive way you did not deserve this. I don't care if the keys were in it. Will try to keep an eye out.

Used to leave the keys in the vehicles on the farm. That ended 12 years ago. I was in the house when I heard a vehicle pull in the yard. Looked out the window and there were 3 teenagers going through the farm trucks taking the tool boxes and looking for the keys. They had robbed 6 other farms over the month before that. Called my husband who was in barn with my brother and told him to call 911. Grabbed the 22 from the closet walked around the house and shot out the rear tire on their cute little sunbird. My brother was already coming across the yard and had his 45 out. One of the brats passed himself. They got 3 months community service each. No fines, parents hired expensive lawyers. Didn't even have to pay back the over $20,000 dollars worth of stuff they stole. Just no justice.

I was in a certain area in the "Yoop" this past summer in what I would call a very depressed area and felt VERY blessed by God to have been entrusted with what we have!

What jumped out at me was that tons of people waved to us as we drove down every street and amazed at how many had UTV's, ATV's and newer snowblower outside and could easily be stolen, but obviously are not being stolen, many homes would be considered uninhabitable in most communities.

These people appear to be very content, other areas of this country and everything would be stolen by lazy people who want something for nothing, similar to the people who loot stores from businesses that never did nothing to the looters.

"The times they are a changing"

My heart goes out to Kip for being "Old school" and trusting people!

Thank you all. These things have a way of working out. My gut feeling tells me they're going to catch these people. I'm really in awe of how many people have called and emailed letting me know they're actively keeping their eyes and ears open including all of you on here. Thank you all very much and the sledding world is small. We did get a follow up saying some panels were stolen from Cloverland off a AXYS so I'm sure the transformation has started. They'll slip up!

Kip, I am very sorry to hear about this, Spending time at your shop on the stimulus project ride day I got to see first hand why you receive the rave reviews and have the very loyal following you do, You are not only a very top notch person/businessman but the crew you have working for you is nothing less than stellar! It is very unfortunate what happened and I hope and pray they find the worthless piece of poop that did this, Saying you asked for it is just so wrong, and then you have the people that are completely oblivious to the world we live in today, unfortunately trust is only a word it seems these days. shortly after we first opened, 7 a.m. one morning sun shining, our front door is maybe at best 100 feet from a county highway which is more like a interstate during rush hour. Two pieces of poop were kicking mu front door in and managed to get away with some equipment, BROAD DAYLIGHT!! It is truly sad that the very few have to ruin it for everyone, or that you have to change your way of business or your way of life to protect your self from these worthless pieces of poop. "Trust"??? HA! give someone an inch and they will take a mile, the unfortunate world we live in today! Kip, I hope everything works out for you, you get your unit back and the perp gets punished to full extent! and again I commend you, you run one **** of a tight ship there, you and your staff are most deserving of all the positive words you read and notes you hear about Pat's in Greenland You guys are certainly a rare type that this world needs more of! Good luck my friend!

Yeah, well, if they, who ever they are, tries to register in Ill, it may very well be their downfall! Not a good idea what so ever. As they may have a DNR visit to take look at the vehicle, and check paperwork numbers. Sconny would be a much safer bet.

Thank you Harski and Matt I feel the same way you do. Believe it or not I've had many great customers break down, take a sled at night, and call me 1st thing the next morning to let me know. We've always bee very proud of that and it saved our customers many times. I'll at least take the keys out but it just really sucks when you're trying to offer the service. I even had a lady send me a card from Alabama that stated and I quote, "I was at your dealership this past Sunday and I couldn't believe that all the keys were in your new and used side by side and atvs." It's refreshing to see places like your's still exist in this country. It was refreshing to see and I can tell you take pride in your business. She took the time to write and mail that card to me. That's a very special person. She wasn't even a customer, but these are the type of customers we have. I won't let one jerk get us down but I will be pulling the keys unfortunately, not that it will help if they want to steal but at least it will take care of the lazy cowards.

Very cool postcard from an WAY out of state tourist! Very nice.

Have to comment on the light punishments we have here in the Madison area too. For a few years now we have teenagers that steal cars daily and when caught they get a simple slap on the hand and are out the next day at it again! Kids have been caught multiple times and there is no elevated punishment! The thefts happen so often that we can hardly leave our garage doors open and unattended as they pull up anytime day or night, run in the garage and drive away (as most people leave their keys in the car when parked in the garage). And don't leave your garage remote in the car sitting outside as they'll smash the window, open the garage and take off with the car from the garage! Again, the punishment is not severe enough and yes some kids are under 18 but somehow the punishment needs to match the severity of multiple offenders.

Hate to say it but you were asking for it.
Screw you. If I leave my doors unlocked, am I asking for someone to come in and take my stuff?

We steal cars in Illinois not snowmobiles 400 miles away.

keys are designed to keep people from entering, unauthorized starting and operating vehicles.

everyone has a right to leave the doors unlocked and keys in ignitions or not.

some play it more safe than others - I myself never would leave a key in or door unlocked (i have been down that path as well with theft).

I am sorry to hear it happened to you kip seeing you are very well liked and thought of highly based on what i read on the forums. Sounds like you are a good person.

Bad things happen to good people. Tough lesson learned - hoping you recover the property or at least are settled with the insurance company.

All the best.

They will never register the XCR. They will just use another sled's numbers and get stickers that way. Have you ever been stopped by the DNR or anyone else that matches up serial numbers with registration stickers? As long as there are current stickers and permits the DNR doesn't care. Also the average DNR officer doesn't know or care whether the sled is a Pol or a Cat or whatever. It will be recovered when it is totaled and abandoned somewhere. Then they will trace the serial back to Kip. Maybe.

Ok, so let's keep working together here. Thanks again for kind words to all but we have a update. I've had two great customers call with leads. We now have a good time line. I have on camera the truck and trailer that took the XCR. It's a crew cab diesel Dodge white in color. It's hooked up to a nice big 5th wheel toy hauler. They took the sled at 9 eastern Saturday. Approximately a hour and half before that a all white new GMC Yukon XL pulled in casing the sled situation. As the vehicle pulled out it was clear they were checking out my shop as the license plate was removed. This is a start!

Not sure if it is connected, but Munising Motorsports had a sled stolen a day or so ago also.

PS Kip- never met you but hope to someday. It is clear you are the type of dealership we all aspire to be friends with and it especially irritates some of us when your open door policy is violated. (I still get a laugh out of your description of the SB half time show as men running around with jockstraps on their heads )
