Enjoy it while you can

Have fun everyone, this is not a dress rehearsal, this is it.

I love that, it's my new motto! As I near 50 years of age, I am realizing how fast time has gone and how fast the time I have left will go. If the first 50 years went this fast, I can only imagine how fast the next 25-30 will go! I'm riding until my body says "no more!"

I guess the thing that really keeps me into the sport is that it is something our family does together. My kids, 9 & 11 this yr, ride over 1000 miles with us each year. My wife will ride 1200-1400 miles with me each yr and I may get another 400-500 in with the guys. So it is something we enjoy. I am really looking forward to my kids starting to ride on their own the next couple of yrs, especially my son, he's a snow nut and loves to go. It's going to spendy as h$%# when we have 4 of us going but what can you do?

I'm in.

I have little kids and not enormous amounts of excess income, etc so I certainly don't have a new truck, new sled, or new trailer. In fact when I bought my leftover '08 M8 a couple years ago that was the first new sled I bought. I'll probably continue buying new now but it will be 2-3 more years before I buy another one after kids are out of daycare. They are so expensive and really change so little from year to year most years that I cannot see myself switching sleds faster. Heck my '03 Pro-X 600 with 144x2", a riser, and geared way down seems to handle anything it gets thrown at it in the Yoop and that thing is getting towards 10 years old. Not the latest fanciest anything but it gets the job done. That said I would be afraid to take it out west and give up 25+% hp with the guys i've ridden with out there. I really want a trailer this season so we can venture a little further without all the trail riding it would otherwise take, but we'll see if it makes the budget because I am only going enclosed (clamshell). If it does then great if not i'll survive. I do have the enormous advantage of my parents owning a place in the Yoop and therefore my weekend costs to go up are basically gas only and depending on what the weather looks like can even go in the better mileage getting car. If I get a trailer it all stays up there still, just have to drive the tow vehicle up and just have the advantage of trailering much closer to the better riding that I know of.

You can have just as much fun perched on top of an ole el tigre or phaser. It is nice to have a current sled but older sleds can be alot of fun.

Let's see...

1) Brand new sled to use each season for free.

2) Can open my garage door and immediately ride in the best snow anywhere east of the Rockies.

3) Still have tons of friends that love to ride.

Yea, I guess I am still in. :)

On a more serious note, I am looking forward to kissing my health issues good-bye and having a season where I feel 100% and the only thing holding me back is my ability.

-John

PS. I do know how fortunate I am and am eternally grateful for numbers 1-3 and my improving health.

My wife thought I was nuts when I purchased extra garage door opener for my sled!!!!

I'm in and staying, everything is paid for and not buying anything new, except maybe a new deck on the 4 place.

I got the chance to ride with 2 or 3 people from this site and had a great time. Every person brought something else to the table in relation to riding skill and passion for the sport. When I pull my shield down problems and stress melt away!!

Be nice to your short track friends. I am smart enough not to dive in the deep. I will stay on the trail and keep the ladies company!!!!

You're not trying hard enough if you don't get stuck...

Ladies on the trail? Are we talking about the same trip or do you mean you'll keep Wayne company?

In it til I can't be anymore!! I tried to get out about 8-9 yrs ago and didn't make it until mid. January and had another sled bought. lol I'm adding a mountain sled this fall, not a new one but a nice used one for back country & taking west. Gotta get my throttle therapy year around(bikes in summer & sleds in winter).

I am currently sledless and I'm having anxiety issues. Lol. Could be heat stroke? Cuzz, you need to sign up to ride with the big boys this coming winter. You will find that finesse goes farther than reckless. Enough of the bunny hills in the UP, You can only stare at the widow maker so long my friend.

Big boys? LOL.

I don't care about things like the widowmaker and will take a nice hill with deep powder or tree riding anyday. I think Doug and I like the same stuff.. I'm game... get me in on a trip and I can take my Honda that gets high 30's in MPGs.

Now your talking! I can set it up. When I get home to my calendar of events I will get you some dates. Let's truly keep the group to about 4-6 guys to ride together. I still am working on IP trip plans, Cooke trip is set. Still tossing around Lava Mtn. It has been a few years since I been there. I can get us around Cooke and IP and in the good stuff without a guide. They main thing is that at a hundred degrees outside I got you thinking snow and winter trips!
