Are You Staying In Or Getting Out?

In it till I die. :)

Nothing compares to being out on a freshly groomed trail at 10 degrees with 8 inches of powder on every tiny branch of the trees above you. It's one of the things that truly makes me feel alive and gets me through the 90 degree heat that we are experiencing right now.

I'm not riding as much as I did years ago.
But, sleds and trailer are paid for and I'm staying in the sport.
Althought this will be the last sleds and trailer I'll buy.

X2

I don't and have needed the newest to enjoy myself. The last brand new sled that I bought was a 73 Ski-Doo Olympique 440S. You can find really good used sleds and enjoy riding. Like the above quote, the sleds and trailer are paid for so why not stay in the sport? Also enjoying watching my grandson riding makes me want to continue to ride.

Back when I started riding in 1989, there were 4 of us. In 1999 it was down to 2 of us out of that 4. I roped my brother into joining us soon after, and now my buds son is hanging with us. PLUS, I've met some good peeps through John's site, who I have no problem riding with and staying with, you guys rock! Including said owner of this site! Heal up quick bud, winter will be here before we know it!

Stealing quotes from "Flatlanders" video is a compliment. 96 here in Shorewood. How can people enjoy summer always baffels me. Went to the Golden Corral (oh yum, not). Called the Joliet police. Someone had their dog in their car in a cage with all the windows up. It was like 150 degrees in my truck. The so called pet owner went out to his car just before the police got there. Some people need to be shot.

5" riser, are you going to start standing up and riding? ;)

Yup! :D Gotta go make an adaptor tube. Couldn't bring myself to buy a $12 rod of metal. Maybe If I'm not content with whatever I make, I'll order one from Paul (sled solutions) and throw the summer sucks banner in there to make the order worth it! Just got $170 from scrap metal today, $120 last week, $100 here and there from the previous weeks, and i've been mowing about a half dozen lawns a week. I've been saving it all and figured I might as well treat myself to a riser! Of course the scrap metal is split in half with me and acatzl550, but it's fun asking around for metal and to make the extra $. Things you do for money as a kid! Hopefully we get some more rain, it's starting to dry up and I might not have as many lawns to mow :( Can't bring myself to send out applications to go make $7.25 an hour or after tax, $6.29 Only advantage to that is I can use that on future applications which I am a tad bit worried about. But, this way, I don't have to work in the winter :) THINK SNOW!

In till I DIE, need the memories to get me through the dead thing.

Think about it, say you die 20-30 years after you give up sledding, you now have an eternity to think of all the fun you DIDN'T have sledding, I would be one pissed off ghost & everyone would pay. BUT if I sled till I die, then I will R.I.P. & be the friendly trail ghost that roams the U.P.

Good Luck,
Pat

OK

I'll pipe in.

Never count me out!

If I kick it, PR1 will duct tape my body to my sled and the throttle at wide open.

Then they will launch me off the Bears Den Overlook!

No place I'd rather be!

As long as next season has more snow and less drama... I'm in. If one of those two things happen I'm on the fence. If both of those two things happen I'm out.

If I

Look at golf, boating, motorcycles, health clubs, partying and much more. None of it makes economic sense. But it is life and the quality of it that counts. I am leaving nothing for my kids but a method and a means to make a good living. If I worried about economic sense I would not live on a boat in the summer. Have fun everyone, this is not a dress rehearsal, this is it.

Most of that stuff makes a bit more sense when you look at investment versus return. (the return being the amount of use you get out of it) I have a ten thousand dollar machine and spend a couple thousand more each year, so I can travel a 1000 miles to use it 2 or 3 times a year. (if I'm lucky) But I still can't/won't stop!

You are not riding with the right crowd or going at the right times to the right places. You know that. You are more than welcome to ride with the fine crowd I ride with. How about IP with smurfrider and I or Cooke City with us and Moms group. You would be hard pressed to find a better bunch of guys. No drama, tons of snow and guys who are there to ride. We are planning trips now. No snowies trips. Lava mtn.,Cooke, IP. Possibly Wawa. Buy the flatlander video and see what your missing with us.

Let's see...

1) Brand new sled to use each season for free.

2) Can open my garage door and immediately ride in the best snow anywhere east of the Rockies.

3) Still have tons of friends that love to ride.

Yea, I guess I am still in. :)

On a more serious note, I am looking forward to kissing my health issues good-bye and having a season where I feel 100% and the only thing holding me back is my ability.

-John

PS. I do know how fortunate I am and am eternally grateful for numbers 1-3 and my improving health.

Very good to hear from you John. Please get well soon you have suffered enough with the bad valve...... get the dang thing to work like it should!!!!!!!! You getting out of snowmobiling is like the Pope not praying. Not going to happen ever unless you relocate to FL.LOL :) ;)

I'm in until people more sane than me take the keys away. I started riding in 1968. I took a couple years off when I first started college in the mid-70's because of athletic commitments (oh ya and to preserve time for studying). Missed it too much and bought a brand new 1978 TX 340 while still in college. Rode that a couple of years and then sold it just before I entered the real world of work after college. Managed to stay out a few years as I started my career and family. Then in early winter of 1986 made the mistake of scratching the itch when I took a ride on my brother-in-laws sled. Couldn't quit scratching so I went and bought a brand new 1987 Jag 340 the next week. Been riding ever since. No plans to try quitting a third time. Too much fun!

I wish you tons of snow in your area and at least 1 power cruiser to ride with next year and then a 2013 Yamaha!
