Speaking of beer, weekends, and BBQ, week 14 had to be considered special with the 4th and all. Having 6 of the last 9 days off was reason for concern: Earlier (and longer) happy hours, extra heavy grilling, and munchies. Went into the holiday week at 211 and weighed in this morning at 211 so that’s a plateau I can live with for now. Will begin to work on the number again this week – need to crack 210 soon.

Just to set the tone for healthier eating this week, grilled up some cedar-planked, Lake Superior lake trout last night. OK, a meal of charcoal-grilled fish and a green salad is not really a sacrifice but at least the munchies were eliminated.

Down 1-1/2 lbs, down 3 very large trees and tops of 3 other trees, 24 feet of privacy fence, and downed power line and cable line. Wow, some start of a vacation. Power back up after 5 days and still waiting on cable, maybe Thursday.

Week 1: 177 lbs
Week 2: No weigh-in
Week 3: 183
Week 4 & 5: No weigh-in
Week 6: 177 lbs
Week 7: 176 lbs
Week 8: Holding steady at 176
Week 9: Still holding at 176
Week 10: 175
Week 11: No weigh-in. Sorry, I forgot
Week 12: 175
Week 13: 175
Week 14: 175

5 weeks at 175. Now how's that for a plateau. I've started to track my meals & exercise on my Ipad app "MyFitnessPal". I don't know if it will help but maybe I can figure out what's going on. I supspect it might be the beer, weekends & BBQ. I hope not. :(

everybody has to have a little brew and BBQ ;)

I agree that a little brew & BBQ is ok, but on July 4th we grilled burgers, bacon-wrapped hot dogs, 2 beer can chickens & sweet corn. On Sunday it was garlic & BBQ polish sausage, bacon-wrapped hot dogs/brats and beer can BBQ turkey. Then it was giant marshmallow & Nutella smores for desert. Cooking the turkey took 6 beers all by itself. And my neighbor and I also chased down an electrical problem on my tractor and you just can't do that without a few brewski's.

Thanks Lenny. You are right it is not easy but if you put your mind to you can do it. For me its all mental, just have to say no to certain foods no matter how bad I want it. Now I had a ton more weight to lose than most you who are trying to get under the 200lb mark. I am within 30lbs of where I was in highschool, and would like to take about another 90lbs off total. I keep changing my goal weight lol.

Wow, you sound like me. I keep telling my wife and friends its a mental thing more than anything, but thats really what most things in life are. I was trying to remember my high school weight and think it was 155, no way I'm going to try to get to that, but I keep changing my final goal too. When I started out it was going to be 185, then 175, considering 165, but also thinking I better add five pounds to that for the "bounce back" so I stay at what I want to maintain. Got a lot of work to do before that decision needs to be made though.

Keep it going everyone, we can all be proud of each other because we are all doing something we can each be proud of. Lets keep up the work and support of one another!

Well I must say it was a little depressing this week. Really wanted to have hit that 50 pound mark by last Tuesday. Didn't happen, then had a few days where I dieted in the morning, then ate cake and ice cream at night. Thought I would get on track, then blew it off so by the time Saturday came I decided to get serious. Expected to be at the 50 mark today and once again, fell just short. Had a lot of people saying things to me about being thinner so thats nice, but I still have a ways to go. I know a lot of you have hit those plateaus along the way so maybe this is mine. Still loosing, but just seems to be slow and whatever I do I just can't break through that barrier.

For the record my numbers after week 14 are:

1.5 lost for the week, currently at 200.3, 47.7 lost overall which is 19.88%.

This will be a good week, no distractions, parties or other things going on so I have high hopes, now lets hope I have high will power too!

another good week for me, thank God. Weighed in this morning at 191, lots of walking and running this week. I was also able to curb my late night snacks better than ever. I need to figure out my goal weight. Not sure if 185 will get rid of the mid section fat. I for sure can see in the mirror a difference and am pleased, a little more to go.

Week 16 - 3.6lbs lost
Total= 74 lbs (18.5% total body weight lost)

Hoping a few days of 100 + temps will lead to some good loss working outside this week!

I'm willing to help anyone drop some pounds so I'll share with anyone who will listen! I just count calories and limit them at each meal and total for the day. I have a calorie book (the are all over the stores) and a digital scale that I use for almost every meal. I know exactly how many calories are in everything I eat all day long. I try to eat around 150 at 6AM, 175 at both 11 and 2:30, than I'll get a Marie Callender's dinner with around 350 for dinner at about 6 and I'll top it off with something in the 150 range for a snack at 9PM. I eat a lot of fruit, so we have maybe 6 different kinds in the fridge, and I found some wraps that are only 80 calories so I make a ham wrap with mayo, lettace, green and red pepper and onions for my mid day meals. Usually I cut it in half and have some fruit with it and that adds up to around 150 to 175. I also walk about 3 miles 5 nights a week. I gave up all alcohol as there are way to many calories and most diet soda due to the sodium. Drink almost only water. I don't snack on anything unless its been a couple hours since I ate, and then I count the calories in my total. Right now I'm targeting 1000 to 1200 calories for a day.

I also write everything down that I eat. Finally the hardest part is not cheating. My feeling on that is who am I cheating against? I realize I'm eating something so I don't hide it, but I evaluate if I really want it, and what the consequences of having it are. So I honestly say if that double stuff oreo has 70 calories in it for just one cookie is it worth it? If I'm only eating 150 for lunch there is no way I'll use up almost half of it on that cookie.

Good luck, stick with it and realize we all go up and down but in the long haul being steady will have it's rewards.

Don't mean to keep running on but I thought of two other things that I felt were important enough to add.

First, as I thought about my post I don't want to sound like I've given up all the fun stuff. We have peanut M&M's around (13 calories each), jelly beans (8 each) I make smores over the fire (143) and fun size snickers bars (85 each), so I have all those things but I figure out how to fit the calories into my day. Usually its at night when I know I've got calories I can still eat.

Secondly, find something that works for you. This happens to work for me. I'm a numbers guy that likes to put things together so adding up calories for a meal or day and trying to figure out how to maximize my food intake within a calories limit is something that is fun for me. You may find something else that keeps your interst so just keep trying until you find something that works for you.

I'd be interested in what other people are doing too. We can all learn from each other.
