Did U get fat this last winter?

I must admit I gained 5 - 10 lbs this winter due to lack of activity. I am from Iowa & ditch banging can give you a pretty good workout. This winter I only put on 125 ditch banging miles as there was hardly any snow around here. I am currently tipping the scales @ a robust 230. My goal is < 200 lbs. If I get there by Hay Days (Minnesota in September) I may have to reward myself with some new gear. Jim.

FYI, the 265lbs of ugly fat I lost WAS my X Husband. The only weight I lost was in my pocket book, but that's a whole nother thread!

I didn't just get fat this winter- it's been creeping up for awhile. My youngest is 3.5 yrs old, so I can't keep calling it 'baby weight' at this point. The bummer- my genes just don't like me. I actually work out a lot already. Running (did a half marathon last summer in 2:08 (under 10 min/mile pace for 13.1 miles), strongman stuff, weights, etc. I joined CrossFit 2 months ago and am doing that 3-4 days a week, plus a run on the weekends. I finally had to suck it up and accept the fact that my diet is the issue. I've been following the CrossFit 'Paleo' diet for about 6 weeks or so now. I'm down 7 lbs. I'm not being a diet nazi about it- I'm cheating on Friday nights when we go out to dinner, here or there, but trying to stick to it during the week for the most part. If there's one thing I've learned over the years- if you go nuts on some diet, you will of course lose weight. However- if you pick a diet that is super restrictive, it will all come back, and the lbs usually bring some new friends to. So the weight is coming off slower than I'd like, but it's steady, I'm not starving, and I actually like what I get to eat. It was definitely a mind shift, and it's still in progress. I'd push a small child out of the way for a pretzel right now!
Anyhoo- I'm in. I refuse to post my starting weight =) But I know it- and like I said, I'm down 7 lbs since 2/1.
Skutr- I'm still on the fence for ToughMudder- I want to do it, but I don't want to pay the $150 registration fee. Plus a hotel. Kind of a lot to torture myself. If you're into adventure stuff- or running- check out Dances With Dirt. It's a 100K relay race of 5 team members. You spend the day running trails (that cross creeks, swamps, etc) in the middle of nowhere. Your team rides around in the car from each exchange to pick up a runner finishing a leg, and where your next runner starts their next leg. Then you're off to the next exchange. Pretty fun. Especially if you have a big group of nutty running friends to do it with.

Nic...um, my baby is NINE so I guess it's time to stop using pregnancies as an excuse?? :D

My joke of I have a body built for snowmobiling not swimsuits is getting a little old...

A friend of mine and started walking. I lost 5 lbs - from the stomach flu! 5 lbs in 2 days is a good start to getting to a healthier weight.

Lenny, can we not tell our starting weight and just tell how much we've lost? Shall we go by pounds or by inches?

My wife decided in November she needed to lose weight also. She is currently at a 60 lb weight loss. She has a lot more will power than I do!!

No. No. Not me, although I have noticed some of my clothing has shrunk.
Started our water ski season tonight. It should help.

Kinda funny. Jillian Michaels showing up on the ad for this thread!

Wow, that's awesome Skylar! How is she doing it? Lots of "wrestling" with her hubby I hope! ;)

Good luck to everyone trying to loose weight. The equation you have to remember is calories taken in over calories burned. As you age, down goes your metabolism, so you have to work even harder as you age.
My wife and I joined the Y 6 years ago. We do an aerobics class a couple of times a week. We took up running 4 years ago. We have 2 marathons done, 1/2 doz halves and many short races. Now we're getting into triathlons. I'm 51, she'll be 50 this summer and we are in the best shape of our lives. I was never real heavy, maybe 210 about 15 years ago. I'm 6' 2" and around 180 now, so I am kind of pat.
Again, good luck to everybody. You will feel so much better. Try carrying a couple of 10lb or 20lb barbells around. It's work. Now emagine losing that 10lb or 20lbs and the relief off of your joints

Try "The Ultimate Body Challenge" I did this a few years ago at a health club. 3 mornings(5am) kick boxing, other 3 mornings working out with bands(rubber). Eat 6 times a day, one protein and one carb. One day a week you can eat anything. Program said you can have one glass of wine a day, tried that, didn't work so I didn't give up the beer! Lost pounds and inches and gained muscle. You can buy the program online now. I paid the gym 250.00 back then for the class. Was well worth it.
