I'll chime in.

I lost 50 lbs from beginning of Feb. until April 1. My wife lost weight as well. I got sick of being overweight, I wasn't obese, but wasn't in shape either. Went to the doctor and asked what was the best way to lose weight. Dr. basically gave me a diet developed by a group of drs. Only thing that mattered was consuming less calories than I burned. We decided to do a 6 week hardcore lost weigh diet. I was consuming ~3-3500 cals a day. I went down to 960 cals a day for 6 weeks. For the most part I was pretty good, but did have some off days/weekend, when I drank to much beer.

I had to go to dr every week for a checkup. Had to keep an eye on blood psi, water weight and muscle mass loss. With most crash diets without massive exercise you will loose some muscle mass. They just want to make sure it didn't get excessive.
According to the dr, over 95% of people that used this diet kept the weight off for at least a year. And over 80% for 2 years. Worked good for me so far, but I do keep an eye on my calorie intake. If I don't exercise, I can eat 2000 calories per day and not gain weight.

I did not exercise at all during this diet.

srt20,

Very impressive, that's almost a pound a day! Normally, I would say that's too much too fast, but since you were under doctors care, no arguing with that. Congratulations and I wish you the best of luck keeping it off.

Sounds like my diet. I tried to take in around 1000 calories a day and it took me 11 months to lose all my weight. I now eat 3000-3500 a day and maintain my weight just fine. If i gain a few over the weekend i just take it easy for a day or 2 and shed the weight right off.

I have only read parts of this thread, so excuse me if I missed this, but you do guys use any internet or phone-based calorie counters? Just wondering what seems to work. Thanks.

Took a week off from the rigors of full time healthy eating, had a long awaited cheeseburger and some beers. Holding at -35 lbs.

That's great to hear! How did you do it? Should make a big difference when riding your sled as well! :)

No dieting, just decided that Oreos and Fritos were not conducive to a healthy lifestyle. So I eliminated total categories of food.
None of this is eaten by me:
Snacks
Candy
Soda
Sweet goods
Processed sugars
Fried foods
Beer
Processed food
Liquor
Beef (mostly)
Ice Cream
Frozen food

So last night my GF and I split an order of mussels and a salad made with fresh fruit, and washed it down with about 3 glasses of red wine. The food is excellent. I still get a ham and cheese omelette or pancakes or something for breakfast a couple times a week, but I really don't eat much of it.

And i walk in Peninsula State Park about 3 days a week.

The only downside is that they are now delivering dry red wine to Door County in tank trucks which tends to add to the congestion!

BTW, the no beer/no liquor rules will be suspended when sledding

Everything on that list is all I eat! :) I may not be able to survive on that diet. ;)

Seriously, that's great willpower!!

That is great!, I bet the walking is doing a lot of good for you too. Stick with it and find a good balance. I need to get back to it, I'm going up and down but still down around 40 from a year and a half ago.

It was nice to see this thread get back up toward the top, maybe it will help with the motivation again :)
