bob, no way you can drop 20 before sledding, pretty much impossible task. I got on the scale this AM and am at 194 so officially I am back on the weigh loss program.

I gain about 60 pounds since I quit smoking last year I gotta start doing something about it.

maybe we need to round up the troops and see if we get a few to commit to some goals. I'll be in for sure as I need to drop 15 so I can wear my summer bikini,,,,I meant to say not have to buy new cloths,,yea!

Everytime I take on a hill at an angle.

I was afraid this thread would come back to haunt some of us. Still down from my original weight when this thread started (222# vs 237#) so it has helped me keep some of it off but should definitely drop another 10. There's only so much they can overcome with carbon fiber.

I'm pushing 280 now but I'm still pretty mobile on a sled. I'd like to lose 80 But really don't know where to begin.

I usually try to start with my ego. Losing some of that is good for at least 5 pounds.

Personally, I think that weight is a little overemphasized. As you said, you’re still pretty mobile on a sled, which is largely due to skill, but also says you’re not seriously out of shape. I could be happy with 220 if I felt I was in decent shape. If I try to drop too much below what seems to be a natural weight for me (which is still way overweight by the charts), I have trouble keeping it off and get really frustrated with the struggle.
</SPAN>
Besides, when you get into my age category, if you lose too much weight, you start looking really old (the chubbiness kind of fills in the wrinkles – somewhat like Botox).
</SPAN>
The best thing for me to do if I’m thinking about regaining control of my weight (no pun intended) is to get back in the fitness center if I haven’t been there regularly. It’s not that I really lose any weight by being there, but it makes me think more about what I’m shoveling in.

and believe it or not, this thread has helped.

I suppose each of us has a unique situation which may or may not work for the next guy but here has been my approach. I try an identify my vulnerabilities and for me that is diner and evenings snacks. I am fine for breakfast and lunch. Breakfast I like cereal and I never feel like I have a weakness, lunch is the same way for me unless I am eating out and tend to eat fattening foods other wise when at home a sandwich or the like is easy for me to control, Now look out when I get home from work as I like to eat a monstrous portion of grub. Evening snack is a real problem for me. We eat diner early like at 4:30-5:00 so by 8 I am scrounging around the fridge of pantry. When I have done my best I would eat a bowl of raisin bran for evening snack and I really like that so it is satisfying. The problems in evenings is cookies, ice cream, butter popcorn and crap like that. If I were to cut dinner portion size down and stick to a lighter snack I would not gain weight but i have poor self control on average so I fall back to scavenger mode.

I'd try an look for the areas where you have the most temptation and make a serious decision to try an curb the urge with something you like and something that is low in fat, these food do exist but buying the right stuff is a different story.

Good luck Steve and let us know if you come up with a plan because I am interested in going at it again and often it is easier when you have some company or competition.

When I lived in south east Wisconsin I had a Russian doctor he told keep your breakfast to yourself share your lunch with your friends and give your dinner to your enemies. Eating a large meal for dinner is the worst. He also says it's really bad to drink anything with ice in it. Drinking that cold of a drink does something to your stomach so it don't digest your food properly . Anyways about having no dinner he says just have a yogurt because we eat for energy why do we need energy for nighttime we're sleeping anyways. Kinda makes a lot of sense. So I think if I start living by those rules and start eating the right foods I should be alright on the food end. And I really need to stop drinking monster coffee drinks in the morning I drink two every morning . Plus I need to start doing more thing that give me more exercise.

I'd jump back in too. Still about 30 down from where I started, but I've got a whole set of clothes that are too small now so I need to drop about 30 again. My thing was just committing to a plan, but also doing a lot of walking. For some reason I've lacked the commitment and I haven't done any walking for a long time. Tough to get motivated alone in the winter so maybe this is what I need again.

Still Holding

I have not checked in on this thread in a long time. Looks like a lot of good accomplishments. I have kept my 35 ot 40 pounds off for 2.5 years so far. Holding between 202 and 207 and it he best shape since I played Junior Hockey. Having new hips really helps. Eating healthy is no longer very hard at all and in fact is what I enjoy. It took a long time and a lot of frustration to to get to that point though. You just have to stick to it no matter how hard. Still hitting the Gym 2 to 4 times a week and pushing hard when I am there. Cardio and strength training. Riding my bike in the summer as well. What keeps me going is that I refuse to spend the 5th and 6th decades of my life doing NOTHING. I am going to be fit enough to hike, bike, sled, maybe skydive, and keep up with my son. Being able to do those things with him is absolutely priceless. You cannot do that if you get winded walking to the mailbox and back.

Find that thing that inspires you and keeps you focused. It really helps.

Keep up the good work.

ok I have not been on this post in a while. But I have kept my 200lbs I lost off for over a year now and doing good. Here is a before and after picture! They are not the best but will show you what a 200 lb loss looks like!

First pic is after the loss, the middle pic is me at my heaviest!

Good for you! That's very impressive and took a ton of effort and willpower no doubt. That beautiful child wants you to be around for a long time! :)
