you guys are absolutely inspirational and I am not kidding. I am not comfortable talking about my wt problems but if you guys can do it I am in! I hit 300 over christmas but have sobered up to a normal 285 but have not done any thing consistently to improve my situation. I love off trail snowmobiling and trying climbs and getting stuck and all, but at 54 and 285 I am shot by noon- I have all the bungie tools and a big track (16x151) but what I need is a level of conditioning and to get the wt off . I laugh at myself when I compare the wt of the new sleds -- the important wt is my wt ---not the sled wt!!! so I am IN and thanks for all your motivating posts.
I am going to start by committing to writing down what I eat through out the day - for me, if I have to write it down first- I eat better.. and less

Good luck! I would start by picking a food that you eat regularly that is bad for you and eliminate the category. My first was Oreos, ate them everyday at about 4:00. I stopped eating sweet goods and lost 10 lbs. Pick your food, eliminate the category, then add another category maybe every two weeks or so. I am not a health food junkie, but after 25 years in the grocery business it is amazing how much bad food we eat.

wow,,,nice guys!

Steve, congratulations on that 30 lb loss, it's gotta feel good. Any thing unusual you are doing other than cutting calories and being active.

Joel, good for you buddy! I believe you can do it and now you have an additional motivation to keep you going and that is this addicting sidehill climbing thingy. I agree with you than it would be easier the healthier because we ain't getting any younger, right!

Bruce, heck yes my friend, you nailed it as far as it becoming a lifestyle but it's harder said than done. Thanks for being a great example. I indeed wanna be like you when I grow up!

Just talking about this has me being much more serious so thanks to all who are working on this, it just seems easier in numbers for some odd reason!

Being more active mostly. The first 30 came off easy that was just from being pretty lazy and not doing much. So getting more active now helped a lot. Now the hard part comes with eating better. I wanna lose 50 more then I'll be where I wanna be. My riding level has really went down hill the last couple years, and this year it's really starting to bug me sitting on the sidelines watching people do what I know how to do just to fat and don't have the energy to do it. I had a friend actually pull me to the side and say something to me about it. So it's time to do something about it.

Usually don't gain enough weight to worry about losing it. Few pounds up but once we get back to work, it usually comes right off once we get back. But a bunch of years ago, I didn't have a sled a couple of winters and, MAN, my legs would get so sore getting in and out of the sweeper for the first month or so of work. Good thing I got in enough miles, with the crap year we had to not be sore. Hate to have to "work out " just to not be hobbling around, looking like I'm an old man

I'm in Lenny. Hard to believe it was 3 years ago we did this, then in the last 2 years I've come close to gaining all the weight back that I dropped. I've been thinking I needed some accountability to be successful again so this will be good. No racing, just slow and steady this time. I'll be ready for the Monday morning weigh ins to start this week.

I hear ya Vin, funny thing is some need to loose 100's and some need to loose 10's of lbs and regardless of the number, people can feel the same badness,,,,if that were a word. Some people have told me they don't think I need to loose any and laugh because I'm trying to loose my piddly 20 compared to their many more but truth is, my 20 lbs makes me slower and just less healthy and that is a hang up in me old brain box. There are many things I like to do and when I get heavier I struggle to do them efficiently especially at 50 now.

Congrats on your 30 my friend, that is a big accomplishment

For you guys that are serious about losing some weight, I highly recommend you check out the book "It starts with food". I did this program for 30 days and dropped 14 lbs. I feel 100 times better. I ate like a horse and did not exercise at all. Basically you eliminate all processed foods from your diet for 30 days. Also no grains, sugar, or dairy. You eat nothing but meat, fish, eggs, and vegetables. It takes some discipline and some planning but its doable. It has really opened my eyes to all the crap we eat and the insane amount of health problems that are being caused by it.

The program is called "The whole 30", and it's not one of those fad diet scams. You don't buy anything from them. (except the book)
http://whole30.com/step-one/

For another serious eye opener, check out the movie "Food Inc."

Well guys, if it's alright I'm going to join in on this, I'm not at my heaviest weight ever, that happened 20 years ago the winter I had back surgery. Now being a few over the hill struggling with blood sugar and blood pressure I need to take off 20 pounds (and keep it off) so maybe a little comradery and accountability may help. Weigh in on Mondays I understand?

Thanks, Brent
p.s. I haven't weighed 185 since I gradgiated from high school, a skinny hard working farm kid!!

Good luck, I'm still keeping the weight off, put on 10 of the 85 lbs over the last 2 years. I need to lose it, planning on busting it when I get back to Door County.
My eating habits are holding nicely. Friday night Elen and I split a beet salad and a sushi roll, so dinner was some tasty greens and 4 slices of sushi. Washed it down with a bottle of dry red, which we split. Also, we rode our bikes about 6 miles round trip to the restaurant.
I feel so different. My activity level is way up, I ride my bike about 100 miles per week, which is easy since I am in San Diego and I am doing rigorous bikini checks!
I've really changed, When I go to a restaurant I order salad and sea food not because I have to but because I want to. I eat fruit. I don't often eat lunch. I don't eat meat, except bacon, which I will never quit.
I feel spectacularly healthy. Doctor reduced blood pressure meds to nearly nothing.
But I have to be diligent every day. I understand my weight is a problem that will never go away.
And, I turned 62 this year

Well I really need to get started, gained a couple more since my last check...

Starting out at 245, setting the first goal at 220.

Okay, here I go 247, now I usually manage to drop 10 during the summer so that is why I would
like to make it 20 this summer.
Good luck everybody!

I'm with ya Lenny, I know I added a few pounds over the weekend getting that last bit of indulgence in before Monday. Had my old diet standby of granola bar for breakfast, and just finished a small ham sandwich, 2 cups fresh fruit, 1oz of chips and 32oz water for lunch. My wife through out 1/2 a cake with the trash this morning and said we're doing this together! Course when I told her to get on here and post her weight she said she'll just keep her plans a little less public. I'm planning this time to just do weekly weigh ins too. Last time I was more focused on daily progress and I think it became more of a challenge than a lifestyle.
