Dieselgate - VW TDI

I saw that VW has now halted new and used sales of the TDI vehicles worldwide. In the US, they sold 75,000 of them in August. What the heck are they gonna do with all this unsold inventory? Also saw an article in the Trib that said that "clean diesel" technology may be impossible, and this could spell the end of the effort to have diesel cars that can pass regs.

Read that urea srubber might work but very expensive. IDK what the heck will be the outcome & can't see any dealers taking these rigged cars in trade right now. I feel bad for the peeps that bought them between the rock & the hard place & not their fault. Already 50 lawsuits against VW probably dealers will sue as well.

Great that spells a bargain on the open market for guys who know what they are looking for.
but who went out and kicked down the extra cost of a oil burner because they planed on trading it in a a few yrs?think most that buy a oil burner do it for the long hall , not all but most. also what are they going to trade in for what else is going to get them the mpg they are use to now? nothing worth driving.
is Audi wrapped up in this also? thought they were running the same motor in there little a3 and a6 wagon could be wrong been a few yrs since we were out looking t them

So what do you guys brink VW will do? Maybe they will buy back the cars? Maybe they will write a check to owners? Class action settlement?

Reflash, or reprogram will most likely correct this. The MPG's will more than likely suffer. I have not seen any comment on this from EPA, has anyone?

Resell them outside the EPA's stranglehold?...big world out there.

Yep, this is a likely outcome - sell them somewhere else where operating costs, MPG's and longevity are critical. Here we care more about patting ourselves on the back.

VW was already in downwards spiral anyway.

only think it matters in used market in states that do there own yearly testing. MN dumped that huge waste of money yrs ago. what a joke that program was. most of the buildings they built for it are now oil change shops.
back in the day when we got tested and the crap I drove would never pass. would run down to stuttering empty add 10 bottles of heat to tank at testing driveway get tested get my sticker pull out and dump 5 gal of gas in the tank and then go fill up.

Back in the days we had it in Michigan, only those of us in the three counties including and surrounding Detroit had to do it. I guess no other vehicles in the state polluted.

Can't sell them if no buyers. VW is not in a downward spiral, this year they surpassed Toyota as the largest car company in the world in unit sales.

LOL....it is STILL mandatory here in 6 counties of SE WI....what a joke....most of our "non-compliance" issues stem from that little town 90 miles to the south....where by the way....they are IN compliance....LOL...I think that explains why I LOL at the EPA supporters and appologists.

In another brilliant move, the state closed all of the testing stations and moved testing to local shops/dealerships whos numbers are dwindling steadily after they realize what a waste of their time it is.

fercrsysakes, GOV. WALKER, do something right and tell the EPA where to stick it!

what makes u think no one would buy one? u have to be a pretty big tool to not buy a quality built car known for great MPG and a long like just because it tricked the government. in fact to a lot of guys it is just 1 more reason to buy one . just a silent finger to the leaf drivers u pass. I would not think twice about buying a nice used audi oil burner . heck we almost bought a new one few yrs back but could not get a oil burner awd so went with MB

Yeah but the goal to be #1 is killing them. Profitability way down since 2012 or so. They went downmarket to try to beat Toyota and GM in unit sales but they can't compete there.

You're correct if you are the kind of a person who can handle the ambiguity. I am for sure watching this to try to pick one up on a deal. There are a lot of people out there with other things on their minds who don't understand cars, and will just not deal with one of these vehicles.

I bought my first Audi in 1985 and loved it (4000 Quattro). Then the whole reverse acceleration thing destroyed the 5000, so they renamed it the 100. I was living in California by then, they could not give away an Audi 100 in the early 90's. So, Audi ran a $10,000 coupon in the OC Register. The car listed for $29k, best $19k car I ever owned.l Beautiful car, nobody wanted one.

Doubtful many consumers will want the noncompliant hassels. Most peeps gas & go drivers of mass produced autos not looking for a tuner for acceptable performance. Former CEO being charged in criminal court today..... Like I said someone could go to jail over this & will be interesting to see what events evolve.
