Been down to me for 3 years...Tommy didn't like my POV of the "new" viper....LOL In hindsight...everything I posted was spot on!
I can pick up an unwanted viper for less than the Nytro closeout deals 4 years ago....LMAO!
Same here - moderate criticism of Viper and major over-reaction. All accurate and justified. Back on over there, but nothing to see except 600 pounders. OK Viper 530+...be still my racing heart.

.....and see what comes down the pipeline later today...maybe there is more to come??

I'm a gambler and I'm saying that a Cat 2S (of some design) will be in a NEW Yamaha chassis. Probably a bad bet but it's fun to speculate. I didn't see anybody else suggest this in the 135 page TY thread that got pulled.

Personally...I liked the viper effort between cat and Yamaha...I just thought it could have been executed better....Yamaha's efi calibration was spot on with the nytro, vector and apex....why did they let cat calibrate the viper??....made no sense to me (and it's one of the issues viper owners have had)....for a first time endeavor I thought they did well...the guys who I ride with that have vipers...love them.

You two stroke folks need to let go of the "weight thing"...it simply doesn't matter to the average trail joe, who isn't busting powder, or jumping driving ways....especially if the machine has eps...so much is made of that by people who won't or don't ride 4 strokes....it's simply a non issue for most of us. I can tell you this...to me they are ALL heavy...I can't tell the difference between 500, and 600 lbs...they both feel heavy to me...lol

Buy what you like people...it's that simple

The EFI thing was "written in stone" before the "merger"...don't know how else to put this all.

Cat uses "brand X" for their EFI systems and Yamaha uses "brand Y". Cat was not able (for legal reasons) to use brand Y and if memory serves and somebody will correct me, brand x's will not accept the mapping format that brand Y uses.

Viper owners have tried to do this.

I only threw this out there because I thought about it....not because I want one. The MARKET wants one.....I don't. I don't want 190hp turbo 3cyl either but that's what it sounds like it'll be.

How do you know this already?? That's not the 1050...it's a new motor ..the 998 (in the sxs)...it hasn't even hit the snow, and the "experts" are mocking it...lol That 1100 zuki wasn't a great motor...it needed a turbo (with huge boost) to get out of it's own way....That being said..while I don't hate the Viper....I wasn't too impressed with the normal "cat like" glitches (the poorly programmed EFI, for example, which caused many cold/hot start issues)..that cat chassis wasn't built for a triple 4 stroke...they kinda shoe horned that motor in, and it seems to have a high center of gravity compared to the cat 800....so maybe this new motor with an updated chassis will work better. I may not have been a viper fan...(I'm an apex guy)...but I'm not against the Cat/Yamaha relationship...Cat always made good riding/good handling machines, and Yamaha builds excellent motors...if that rubs off on each other, that's good thing....I realize the cat purists will be loyal to Suzuki, and it's a tough pill for them to swallow seeing a tuning fork logo under their hoods...AND believe me...it's a tough pill for the apex lovers to not see a 100 percent Yamaha...Cat "quality"..doesn't sit well with many people...yeah it's better, but they still aren't there yet.

One more thing...Performance matters to Cat ( and always has)....and that will benefit both green, and blue riders. Cat will not get conservative like Yamaha does...if they say, "it will be fast"...it will be.

So why don't you guys chill out, and see what comes down the pipeline later today...maybe there is more to come??

. I agree with most of what you say. It looks like Yamaha Motors/ Snow is only going to be a partnership from now on. I am giving up on the idea of a pure yamaha sled being built.
I think this new cat chassis was designed around the new 998 mill and not shoehorned in like the 1049 even though the 2 motors have the same basic dimensions minus the turbo. I am sure Yamaha had some say in the chassis design as well. Built together can only be an improvement in an overall package.

$8,948 plus tax, no set up or other fees in Green Bay for a 2016 Viper RTX-DX.

Whomever made the comment about weight not being a concern - enough - it IS an issue to a person that has to manuever a sled in and out of a garage without damage to concrete, positioning properly on shop dollies EVERY night! I can literally THROW my Pro-S around, whereas the Vector and Apex I'd get hernias just LOOKING at them. CLEARLY a NOTICEABLE DIFF in weight. HUGE. Somebody not being honest here - and it isn't I. Carry on.

You and i are on the same page....right down to the sleds we own....LOL.....loading a 3 place inline has you "experiencing" the joy of a lighter sled everytime you load and have to maneuver the sleds around.

These folks that say wt. doesn't matter will probly be first in line if somehow the Yamahas lose 50#'s....LOL...sorry just dreaming now.

OK now stop it you two! Let's keep this thread somewhat civil and inline. :)

So the info has been leaked and we now know the Yam factory turbo is real. I think what might be even more interesting would be a high mpg 120 hp non turbo version in the new chassis at a reasonable price point. Hopefully they won't drag it out and release it next year....You know it is coming.

Not to mention everyone is a different height and weight. I like the Ski-Doo 600 E-Tec's as I am 6'4 300 pounds and need the light weight because I am fat and tall. My sled and I are about 750 lbs, If I rode the Viper (which I am considering for the upcoming year due to current low price) will put me at 830 lbs. I test rode the Viper, the extra 80 lbs seems to make the ride tippy in corners.
I am not 2 stroke or 4 stroke, I am what machine will allow me to ride 300 miles in a day and not need 2 hours in the hot tub after.

Next year is what, their 50th anniversary? Might be saving/developing something for then.

Yea, It is sort of impressive that this new sled is being introed a year before the 50th. A NA version as the new thing next year would be anti-climactic. Got tobe something else in the pipeline.....Just imagine, a new pure Yamaha sled....it could carry them for another 14years!!!!...LOL

GREAT....DON'T BUY ONE!!!!!!.....carry on (SMH)...now I'm dishonest for pointing out that "HEAVY IS HEAVY".....I think people know that 4 strokes are heavier...that's not stopping people from buying them, now is it?? HATE ON!!!!!

My my, we are defensive about our tanks. No reason to go apoplectic. May God forgive me for my Yam-sins next confession.

You keep your disposable pop can (cause your biggest worry is moving it around in your garage)...lol....I'll keep my tank, and park it in one of my 3 garages when winter's over, and not move it again til next fall.
Can you see how your weight issue doesn't effect me??
