and over, and over.... a profound, compelling dichotomy (awesome motor - equally unimpressive chassis). Sold last Vector to brother - strong guy - wanted the Yam motor badly - finally admitted, "it's extremely heavy" to dead lift. Duh - lol! Last word to the apologists.

I agree.. My point is.. those who are interested in the new Cat/Yamaha release...probably don't have weight as a major concern...they are interested in a 4 stroke, and they know the trade off with a 4 stroke is that they are heavier. They are interested in a smooth reliable motor....We don't have all the details yet... we don't know what this sled weighs, or exact dimensions, or what if anything else is coming....but somebody always has to come BASH on it....I get tired of hearing it frankly...if it's not for you why be here on this thread?? Some of us are excited and interested in the Yamaha/Cat release.. I'm not sitting on the ski-doo, or Polaris thread bashing their releases...cause I'm not interested, and I don't need to antagonize folks who like those machines. Why be the turd in the punch bowl??...I don't get it

He's right you know XXX007. I could have dumped on the Poo thread (that I started) that why oh why don't they respond to market demands and offer a 4S. But I didn't. Same with the Doo thread....might have tried to contribute with some experiences but that was it. Did I go on and on about folded up nuns and tin foil? Nope.

Can't you just effing let it go? We all understand your position.

How do you know this already?? That's not the 1050...it's a new motor ..the 998 (in the sxs)...it hasn't even hit the snow, and the "experts" are mocking it...lol That 1100 zuki wasn't a great motor...it needed a turbo (with huge boost) to get out of it's own way....That being said..while I don't hate the Viper....I wasn't too impressed with the normal "cat like" glitches (the poorly programmed EFI, for example, which caused many cold/hot start issues)..that cat chassis wasn't built for a triple 4 stroke...they kinda shoe horned that motor in, and it seems to have a high center of gravity compared to the cat 800....so maybe this new motor with an updated chassis will work better. I may not have been a viper fan...(I'm an apex guy)...but I'm not against the Cat/Yamaha relationship...Cat always made good riding/good handling machines, and Yamaha builds excellent motors...if that rubs off on each other, that's good thing....I realize the cat purists will be loyal to Suzuki, and it's a tough pill for them to swallow seeing a tuning fork logo under their hoods...AND believe me...it's a tough pill for the apex lovers to not see a 100 percent Yamaha...Cat "quality"..doesn't sit well with many people...yeah it's better, but they still aren't there yet.

One more thing...Performance matters to Cat ( and always has)....and that will benefit both green, and blue riders. Cat will not get conservative like Yamaha does...if they say, "it will be fast"...it will be.

So why don't you guys chill out, and see what comes down the pipeline later today...maybe there is more to come??

Well put my friend!!

A 3 cyl won't take the high boost that a twin both firing at the same time can. That is how I know . the reason the zuk can take over 400 HP with no work but head bolts it the equle prrsure on the crank of both hitting at same time .u can get more out of that trippel but say the ones they run out of osp have big no huge bucks in to those cranks and cases to Handel the boost. Do t think so go buy one slap a bigger turbo on it and check back in after a few runs . I bet the farm u can pass a baseball through the hole in your case

As a guy who is open to buying anything reliable, I am just glad Yamaha is staying in the sled business. If it is partnered with AC, then so be it. I don't worry about their motors. Sure - they are not the best riding machine out there, but for those of use who want the ability to toss on 1000's of trouble free miles without the worries, most of us go to blue. There are other sleds that can do that, but probably not at the level that the yami motors do. Same reason I own a 300 horse yami outboard. Just gas and go. I am excited to see Yamaha introduce something new. Hopefully a better skid and frame to go with the motor as well.

Rods and pistons on the Nytro engine. Not exactly "big bucks". Along with studs, it's capable of 27lbs. It might actually be 29lbs but I don't recall for sure. Above that point the cylinders egg out and billet cylinders are needed. Billet cylinder is very expensive. 27lbs of boost will bring well over 400hp.
My riding bud has one. Impulse turbo. The turbo setup itself was not cheap though.

$15,500 MSRP for the 137" deluxe version of the Sidewinder. Too rich for my middle class blood.

Looks like the rest of the lineup is mostly unchanged?

I don't understand Yamaha following Cats lead having so many different models. 12 Sidewinder models, really? I just don't see volume there.

Probably not as passionate about folded up tin foil on Doo's because you haven't experienced it. I've experienced the weight diff of the 4S - not for me. $15,500 - they have literally lost their minds in corp offices. Any guesses on how many copies they sell? 1/10 the volume of all E-Tech 6's?

Bottom line is we as snowmobilers are all on the same team. I respect all the brands and what they bring to the table and I respect loyalty from each of their customers. I would hate to see any of the big 4 drop out of the game, that would be a sad day. Ski Doo builds a great sled and it doesn't bother me one bit to admit that, they've earned it. The other 3 still make great sleds as well and Poo is slowly but surely gaining market share back. The 4s are not for everyone but they do have a place in the market and they serve many customers very well. Yamaha now has almost 18% of the market share in the 600 class on account of the Viper. While Yamaha is a bottom dweller for sure that number does show many people do prefer them. I personally am glad we have 4 very good manufacturers of snowmobiles and the sledding community is much better off with all of them building product hopefully for years to come:) Yes I agree also that prices are getting up there but look at what you can buy sleds for right now, retail is just a number the corps throw out there, it's never what they actually bring:)

I would take the extra weight of a 4s in the trailer over not breathing in the trailer because of 2s smoke or the smell of the 2s on the trail.

you don't ride your sled in the trailer and the new two strokes barely emit and smoke. the new etecs I can't even smell them anymore.

I was hoping for something different - namely something that would compete with the doo 900. I would think Yamaha could do that better than anyone - 100 hp or so from a lighter weight 4 stroke. I'm sure this thing is awesome. Hopefully it lost a few lbs so it's more competitive on the mountain.

If a poll was taken on this site with the top 10 things snowmobilers would like to see from the manufacturers to help move the sport forward, I don't think a $16K 180 hp but still heavy sled would make the list. But it's a niche and hopefully helps keep Yamaha in the game.

Are you telling me you have to carry your sled out and back into the trailer. I normally start mine in the trailer and when it is warmed up drive it out of the trailer without smoke. Then when I load mine in the trailer I drive it up to its spot without smoke. I might have to move the front over a few inches and the back a foot or two, but thing that I can't handle.

And as much as people like to think 2s' don't smell, when you are on a 4s you smell them all. Barely is the operative word in your sentence. I smell all 2s when I go by them, even the etecs. Sometimes I like to play a game while I ride, what oil are they burning based on the smell.
