I wanna cat

The last 3 days I was out off trail riding with my buddies and we sometimes switch sleds to get a feel for the other guy's sleds. I realized how much I like the feel of the crossfire. The sled I rode was an 06 xfire 700 stretched out to a 144. It has great hookup in the pow and perfectly balanced. My other buddy has a 2010 600 summit 146 600 etek. Lot's good to say about the sled but did not have the balance and ease to handle feeling. I am sure there could be some tweaks to the feel of the sled but there is no way it can equal the xfire or an M. Actually my 2000 mtn max felt better pounding through the woods, balanced better than a 2010 summit. If I had to ride all day I would prefer my mtn max over the summit. No doubt the doo is a fine machine, that sled sips fuel, incredible throttle response, best seat from a stock machine. I've made the decision to buy a cat. I wish I had more time on a poo because they feel nice right out the box also.

Does cat have a 141or 144 in a stock machine. I'll probably be able to only afford $3500-4000 so looks like a 2006-7

Is there a cat motor to stay away from, some years better that others?

Arctic Cat made a 141" M-Series from 2005-2007 and the Crossfire from this same era was a 136". There are some Crossfires in your price range but I think you have a better chance of finding an M-Series... but the 141" isn't as common.

I don't think there is any "bad" year for the Cat engines and you'll be able to find 600's, 700's and possibly an 800 (2007 only). If you increase your price range to $5k I think there is a great chance you'll find what you're looking for over the summer.

When I did my research 2006's or 7's were melting belly pans. This was corrected in 2008 and there is a shield kit for the previous models easy fix. I like the 800 the best. A good number of snowmonkey's buds are on cats and they have been reliable and are great sleds.

I sold my 07 x/f 600 for $4800. The 07's were the first with factory reverse in the diamond drive. My 07 had close to 4000 miles and didn't even need to change the slides. The motor is pretty much bullet proof and was extremely reliable. If your planning on riding offtrail more, step up the budget to get at least a 700, but an 800 is the icing on the cake. I upgraded to the 800 snopro ltd this year and never regretted my decision. Love it love it!;)

Hey Lenny: I just went threw the same thing, almost. I have a SkiDoo Gade that is tweaked and does do some sweet things! A couple weeks ago, I had the opportunity to ride a new friends 2011 M8 SE. The first time I went to lay it over I had a little too much input and well I came off! It took some time to get use to the steering but it is like most say, much easier to SH,BD. Now like you say, you'd like to give a POO some more time, me to on that one. Looks like they have a sweet 2011 RMK out. I hope we find our new best friend for next winter! See you on the Quad again this summer!

not really, cat never tried to come close to the epa, and just kept producing super reliable super powerful sleds. pretty soon, the only 08-11 sleds that'll be left will be cats (and yamaha)

I ride mainly off trail and the xfire I did ride seemed to have enough grunt for a 700, it just has a lag when you hit it, kinda seems like a rich mixture more than the clutches

Don't try my 2010 M8, Lenny. You'll absolutely love the new HO 800cc from Cat if you do.

Lenny-

Welcome to the cat side! As far as what to stay away from in the xfire and M class would be the 1000 engine other then that its all good.

I'm 90% sure my 2010 M8 pro is going down the road (1550 miles now) unless the 2012 lineup is goofy. Rumors on the M8 are interesting but just rumors as of now....170hp lmao!

We'll have time yet this winter to let you get a taste of the M.

Go Lenny go!

Wow I'd jump on that first one in a heartbeat! low miles, cheap price, looks in great shape, and a good ole 700! Idk about that last one, the guys username is buttman lol

One cat I'd be interested in is an 06 X-fire 700

I would deff do a m7 over a xf7 spent allot of time and money to make my xf in to a m.well more like a hcr7.I do like the wider xfire a arms and the big cooler and the extra gal of gas the xfire has.I dumped the sway bar the skid/ drivers/insulation/steering post/air box/cleand ports/added m drop brackets.would have been allot more ez to just add a bigger cooler and widen stance on a M/but then what would I have done with my pre winter timel
