Couple ways to stick it to the ILman
I hate to throw facts into a good debate, but y'all do know the Tollway has posted all toll rates, with and without trailer, at every single toll plaza, on their website for years?
Nah, lets just listen to interweb know-it-alls instead.
Whether you want to drive a tollway or not is your choice. I know someone who takes local roads every day to avoid a $0.25 toll, says it is only 10 extra minutes. Doesn't seem to understand that means he only values his time at $1.50 per hour.
Relax. The OP went into a Tollway office and was given some bad info. Who's the know-it-all?I hate to throw facts into a good debate, but y'all do know the Tollway has posted all toll rates, with and without trailer, at every single toll plaza, on their website for years?

Try this route. 47 to 20 West. Hop on toll road to Belvidere. Go north on business route 20 to IL 76. Turns into WI 140 to hwy 14. 14 West to 39/90. This will save money hardly any extra time involved. This was the way I went any time I was in the West burbs. And for awhile I think it was free. Can't remember for sure but it might have been. Before I realized how ripped off I was getting by the tollway, I took I-88 west to 39 north to 90 north. Now I will go north on route 47, west on route 20, north on route 23, north on route 14
which turns into route 89 in Wisconsin, north to route 11, then west to 39/90. I usually go up to the western UP. Been staying in mass city for the last few years. It is a centralized spot where
I can go to copper harbor, sidnaw, the porkies. Will usually get on around 500-600 miles. Since 1981 I would say that I have put on 40,000 or more miles. Pretty much have traveled all over the UP. Took the ferry to Drummond island 1 year.
I took a look at the atlas & there is a toll just west of route 20 (it figures, you don't think they would allow anyone on there for free would you?)
anyway, I could just take route 20 west to 76. curious to know what kind of road route 76 is. Never been on it.
I have to say that for being my 1st post here (I started this whole post) I've had over 2600 views. Ohhh sooo proud,,,,, lol

The toll west of route 20 is only on East side. The West side toll is after the exit for Belvidere. So you could run the toll for free between those exits, but now I think there might be a toll at the Belvidere exit. You really should try the route I suggested. I did it many times with a truck and it's not too time consuming at all.I took a look at the atlas & there is a toll just west of route 20 (it figures, you don't think they would allow anyone on there for free would you?)

Hello Everyone and thanks so much for all the hits on this subject. I looked at the count & I am # 3201. 3200 hits before me. I hope that the info has been an interesting read.
I will basically sum it up to not knowing for years (due to my ignorance of not knowing being overcharged for tolls) of how much denero I could of saved. Oh well,,,,, I think I will try renegade's advice & give his a route a try next time I have a trailer behind me.
It just doesn't make much sense to me to be charged 487% extra for hauling a trailer that weighs less than half of my truck. Another set of tires "wearing Out" the tollway road will cost you a 487% increase, you poor sucker.. ahh what a feeling.
Keep the hits coming..

LOL Snomoman you were never overcharged you just don't receive a discount for pulling a trailer. Good luck on the surface streets pulling a trailer through all them stop n go lights...

Okay, The best oil for my 2 stroke is beyond a doubt Amsoil intercepter. I have a 2003 Polaris XC600 liquid cooled snowmobile
that I bought brand new that has over 17,000 miles on it now. The engine has never been taken apart & either has the clutch.
Can anyone beat that.
