Good to see not every one shops at fed government approved dealerships.
Just saying I would be ashamed to drive anything that was involved in thesteps of socialism of America and make no mistake 2 did big time just ask any now closed dealers who did not contribute to the left party
You better get rid of that ford then, or drive around ashamed for not knowing Ford got a measly 5.9 billion in loans for retooling, when they had a bunch of cash on hand. I ask what's worse a company getting bailed out that needs it or 1 that doesn't need it but takes it?

Both of you make great point about price, how to negotiate and looking at last years models like Grub did and if I could find that deal I would get the F150. I think that is why this has been so hard for me. I have a friend that is a Ford salesman but there is only so much he can do, and he understands why I'm going with the RAM. I can get Supplier Pricing from both, but at Dodge has another deal going that works even better for fireman and cops. I can order the 2013 for $35,300 out the door. That is $12,000 off MSRP sticker price, which is allot less than dealer invoice. Funny thing is it would cost me $400 more to take out of dealer stock. Bad part is I lose all specials they have going, but even with losing the extras its a better deal b/c it so much off.
Correct, I do have to order one should take 6-8 weeks to get. Plan is to order Monday.
I purchased a 2013 F150 Lariat Crew 6.5 box 4x4 with Eco Boost in Mid December. Put 8k on the truck so far and all has been good. It has the 331 rear, but still only gets around 15.5 mpg so thats a little disappointing. Looked at the GM's but could only get the real short box on the 1500. Didn't look at the Dodge as family plan on the other two. Sold a 04 Chevy Crew Duramax with 260k on it, was a great truck very few issues. No longer need that kind of power as we sold the big fifth wheel we towed.
Towed a 4 place inline to the UP and back from the lower and it towed well, no real issue noticed with the lower gear. The Eco does have impressive low end torque for a little 3.5 v6 I beleiev its rated around 420 ft lbs.
Good luck with your new Dodge!!
Dodge and ford both are going to be releasing v6 diesels next year...I wish I was in the market cuz I would be buying one right away. 3.2l turbo that gets about 24-26mpg. Very disappointing also that all the companies have gotten rid of the midsize truck. Only thing left is Tacoma and ridge line. I would rather buy American although someone will probably get on here and say blah blah nothing is made in America. They have kept the ranger over in Europe, meanwhile with a small turbo diesel.
Did you get it with the Rambox?
My parents have it on their 2010,and it's a great feature.......
No, I liked it, but I wanted a hard painted Tonneau Cover or now I'm even thinking of a cap. I found a few that make it look allot like and SUV and not just a cap on a bed. I'm just not sure I want to limit my bed hauling height like that. My current F150 has a LoRider Tonneau Cover that only takes 2 people 30sec to take off or put back on. The down side is you need to take it off and put it somewhere. Not a problem when you at home, and have one other person to help you. The cap would be great for getting more in than just the bed rail height, but that is normal only an issue when I go camping and with the wood laws changing that might change how much I bring now to. (Indiana is making it harder and harder to bring wood from home)
I'll post a picture once I get it. 3 weeks down. They are saying the beginning of April, we'll see.
I can speak to the Retrax from experience. My first on broke on the plastic at about mid point after 3 years, they did replace free of charge. The replacement broke at bout the same location after about 2 years.
I bleive that they were breaking due to too much snow on them up in the UP, and then after freeze, thaw, the built up ice, that would stress the hinge seams when opened and closed. I did not go back to them again for replacement, just went to an Undercover that was easily removed. I have since sold the truck and just saw it up in Hancock two weeks ago, still had the undercover on it looking like new. That Undercover would now be 5 years old.
I just got the 2013 F150 Lariat Crew, Eco Boost, 3.31 rearend short (5.7) box, 4X4 2 weeks ago. I have about 800 miles, and I am getting 17.5 to 18 Mpg. This is of coarse not towing, and not broke in. I drive mostly county roads, at 55-60 mph.
Are you saying your gettting 15.5 towing? If so that is very impressive in my opinion for turbo 6 cyl.
I am antisipating the milage after breakin, I may get 19??? and 14 towing??? Maybe I am all wet, but to be at 17.5 off the lot, and 10% increase post breakin I would be close.
Sorry everyone, not trying to hijack the thread but one more comment for Snowsdog. No the 15.5 is my every day mileage, never gotten anywhere near 17. Got 9.5 towing that inline 4 place! Maybe you were lucky with your truck, or I am just unlucky with mine. 60% of my mileage is hwy, and the balance as you say are country roads to and from my office (55 mile round trip). I owuld think with over 8k on my truck in two moths it would be "broke in"?

Good to know....Will have to keep an eye on it...

Wonder if the longer box just gets more drag? Be interested to know what the others have box size and mpg. Could also be fuel, I have been running 87 Oct, from Kwicktrip. I do see around here they tend to have pretty good gas.
I will have a A.R.E Z series topper on mine while I am away on business travel next week. Will have to see what I get for Mpg after the topper is on.
OK so I picked up the truck after having the A.R.E. topper, Bed Rug, and Swing Case installed. I love the Bed Rug and Swing Case The A.R.E is a nice fit, but the paint match to the new 2013 Tuxedo Black is kind of, well I don't know. If you are right up close they appear to be a good match. Then when you see it at different angles, the topper looks like it does not have as much metallic as the truck. Love the fit, it has no wind noise and helps with Fuel Economy at least I think. Truck was getting 17.5 before the topper, and yesterday drove 200 miles, and had 18.6 Mpg when I got home. I don't know how much was still getting better from break in as I only have 1200 miles so far. Thanks for the info I did look at the Retrax but again I really wanted it Painted to match.
Do you have any pictures? I like the looks of the ARE. Pros and Cons of having the cap. (I have always had the Tonneau Cover, and still leaning towards the under cover right now).
The Ram 1500 v6 diesel is scheduled for release the 3rd quarter of this year.

Over all I am happy with the topper, I like that I can keep my large tool carrier in the box. I could not do that with the Tonneau covers. I really like the remote lock option of the Z series. Only Con: As I said depending on what angle you look the paint may not be exact match.
I do not have the need to haul anything large in this truck, so limited height will not be a problem. They would not be removable it you had to you could but the wiring ext would be enough just to use your trailer to haul the big stuff.
Good luck with what ever choice you make. Undercover is good and a lot less expensive. My total cost was just under 3K for topper with power lock, front tilt sliding window, power lock, swing case, and bed rug.
