Right where ever the snow is DEEPEST and FRESHEST we are not picky. Be it a hour or 10, we always find a new neighborhood , and ACT LIKE LOCALS.

My trip is about 4 hours to our cottage. You just have to figure how long it takes you to get into the "snow belt" areas, otherwise it doesn't matter. You need that little security snow to get you into the UP. in the lean snow years.

Driving alone it's 2-1/2 hours, I don't stop.
With everyone it's 3, Gotta add for the Mcd's break in Turtle lake.

Traffic isn't too bad, cause we don't go the direction everyone else does. And after the halfway point I'm nearly alone on the road even on Holiday weekends.

It's always too far away, when we want to go there. But once we get there it feels just the right distance. Far enough to keep most visitors away.

1 hour and 45 min Green Bay to Pembine. It is nice to have a short drive so you can do day trips if you can't make it for the whole weekend.

Takes 90 minutes for me to drive to 'da cabin. In an average year, we spend roughly 60-70 nights at the cabin (we rarely go anywhere else on vacation).

If you don't have a specific location in mind, my advice would be to keep the time under 4 hours (2 is better).

Any longer than that, and you will likely not use it enough to warrant the expense.

If it takes 6-8 hours to get there, you will only likely go a couple times a year....at that point rent a place....its way cheaper.

Figure out the number of nights you would be able to stay there in a given year, and then divide the cost of buying a place by the number of nights.....it ain't cheap!

From the living room to the deck. About 20 steps. Live in northwest Wisconsin on a lake. Use to be my cabin, now is my house.

Exact same thing here. It was my cabin from 1991 until I moved up here full time in June of 2006. Never going back to the city!!

It takes 2 hours and 15 minutes in the spring, summer, and fall but in the winter we ride out on the sleds, 4 or more hours depending on the route
