1980 Jag 340, got it cheaper than what you can fill up your car for. grand ole price of $45 and she runs! also got this dolly last week for $30 at a rummage sale, got er painted up already! The sled was oil injected, but they ran oil lines right back up to the intake manifold and its now premixed. It takes FOREVER to start (many pulls) but you can get er goin. It loads up like no other, but I think it's because it's premixed and its getting A LOT of oil. Spark is good, compression is 120 both sides (i guess it has new rings?.?) I don't know, but I think i'll be looking like a champ this next winter riding to school!

That was my first sled....bought it from my uncle in 1993 with 147 miles on it. I think I gave him $600 for the sled and trailer. Ran like a champ, always started right up.

is it a F/A or a fan? if she is a free air it will be alot faster than you think when running well

fan, it kinda runs like garbage, but then again all its done is idle. premix + idle = no good. I'm on the lookout for a 32 mm round slide mikuni though. may get a new fuel pump too.

or keep a eye out for a F/A 440 4 plug good vintage racer

or fix the motor mounts first! lol the motor rattles around. I wanna work on carb/fuel then track then clutches, the motor is fine, i dont wanna worry about that right now! anybody know the track length on this?

Indy,

My first sled was a 1978 jag 340 free air, still have it and it still runs great. It has 5000 miles and never touched it. I did put a few windsheilds on it but that was my fault, or the fault of the cleated tracks, LOL. I also just replace the hyfax which are rivited on, that was fun, anyway great buy, get it back to stock and it will give you years of fun

Unless I can find a windshield for $10 I don't plan on getting one. I plan on ordering the fuel pump rebuild kit tonight along with a new throttle cable. I also am going to put on new fuel line and a fuel filter (which i already have). I'm going to paint the pipe, fan housing, ski's, front suspension, rear suspension, etc. I just got some angled aluminum from acatzl550 i plan on making some custom running board strengtheners (they are weak!!!). Finally, a tunnel I can shine up too :)

I'd recommend finding something to widen the ski stance (or making some), that is if you like turning! Looks like a fun sled though.

anybody know the tracks size? i think its 15x116

Yep,, 15x116 is the correct size, in fact, here is a little something I found for ya. I'm not sure how large this will show, but, I gave it a try anyway. My very first sled was a 1973 Suzuki XR440, but, my first "Cat" was a 1978 Jag, I thought it was a CATillac, now, it's just a fond memory. I had to laugh at your comment about sprucing up the "front suspension", my first thought was, What front suspension, in fact, what suspension at all?!?!LOL!! To think I use to spend so much time & so many miles on those things & on no trail systems it's a miracle my back isn't more beat up than it is. Your picture brought back some good memories, minus the excess blue smoke of course. Enjoy it, then upgrade to a modern day Cat, then you will ask yourself why you kept the Pol-Cat for so long... :D.-Mezz

thanks for sharing the pic! Now I just gotta find an all rubber track for it. I would like a 32 mm mikuni round slide carb for it, but i dont want to pay $100 for a new one. Hopefully I can find a used one for $20
