Just picked up an 09 800 Switchback w/ 1100 miles on it. The updates were just complete. Rode it tonight for the first time w/ NGK plugs, the Champions fouled when unloading from the trailer. Still has pre-mix fuel in it and have noticed the hiccup several times. But I am not WOT as I am working on the break-in time. Seems to be around 60 mph is when the hiccup occurs and drops speed then starts to pick back up again. Hopefully will get some miles on Sunday with the family and then next week with some friends to really see how this thing is going to perform.

What # of NGK pugs are you using?
2 Polaris dealers that I deal with said the NGK plugs have the tops coming loose?
They said until NGK has a different plug don't use them stay with champions I hate them cheap **** plugs!
I used to use br9 or br8 NGk plugs, on all my sleds in the last 20 years,so what is everyone using?
Also the 800 IQ runs great no hiccup, the 800 Dragon is being done this week I pick up next Saturday in WI, that figures here back in Il we have 14 inches on the ground.
Once you get about 200 miles on the breakend wow real fast, but use premix in the gas breakend for 2 or 3 tanks of gas.

How many tanks of mix is everyone using for breakin period? On my other new sleds I only did one tank-full, but am hearing others say 2 or more on the 800.

The dealer said in Il 2 tanks with premix for the 800 IQ , same with the the dealer in WI for my 800 Dragon. I deal with 2 dealers one in Il and one in WI.
He said unlike when new, you have new pistons and a leaner remap, if you want the motor to hold up and last.
Then put in a new set of plugs, 800 IQ much faster runs strong.
The 800 dragon gets broke in this weekend.

I will have a answer next Thursday for the new remap this week it is being tested this week on a 2009 800 my dealer will let me now if it is worth the new remap?

The new remap was done on my 800 Dragon this week the newest remap that came out January 14th from Polaris took care of all the problems, no pause in the midrange more hp higher top end when I get it broke in.
The remap before this worked ok for my 800 IQ it had no pause in the midrange but my 800 dragon had a pause which drove me nuts!
Like I said before since 1 year 1/2 later they finally fixed the problem!
We will see if they are stupid enough to screw up the new 2011 800 RUSH?
I plan to wait until 2012 let them play with a new time bomb motor.

Well, took mine to the local dealer (not the same dealer I bought it from) earlier this week to check it over. They said it was blown! Took it back to the dealer that I bought it from today and they checked compression on both cylinders (65 and 100 psi). Removed both pistons and the top had a slight ridge on them and the top ring was peened into the groove. Not sure what happened with the rebuild, but they are taking care of it. So it will need to be broke-in again. Hoepfully this time goes much better. Will also have the latest remap!

Mine and my buddies Assault are working great with the newest remap. Put on 200 miles the last two days, and a bunch of boondocking and I haven't had any hesitation problems and neither has he. Runs strong and has lots of tug no matter where I'm at on the throttle.

Over the last 20 years the best service in North Wi for Polaris is North Country in Manitowish Waters, and Polaris in Gridley Central Il. That's why back in the upper 80's I had Ski-Doo and switched to Polaris in 1990. Poor service and your brand in nothing.
Over the last 10 years I have found these dealers really know how to set them up to run faster than other dealers sled to sled just like my 800 Dragon will run faster than other 800 Dragons same model. This has been the same for the 600 I had 700 I have had and the 800 as of now. They know how to set up the clutch change weights and adjust other things to make it faster.

Is everyone tired of the 09 polaris 800's yet? Don't give up yet. I went to our local dealer this last week to fix the little burp from 4-6000 rpms. Also took my wifes 08 700 for a service engine light. Took my buddies 09 800 for a huge burp. Long story short they tried the latest remap for mine, and told me it didn't do a thing. My wifes 700 needed a new stator but they couldn't reset the service engine light. Buddies sled had bad compression but they didn't want to touch it since the dealer he bought from rebuilt it. Understood that. Not satisfied we loaded up and drove to M & M polaris in Rushford MN where we bought our 800's. 1 hour of being there I got wifes 700 service engine light reset, my 800 remapped for the second time that day and fixed the problem perfect. My buddy not so lucky-needed total engine rebuilt. My sled has 425 miles and running like a champ. Buddies sled has 1400 miles on and is on its third engine. Not totally impressed with the 800 problems. Point of my story is that we bought all our past new sleds at the local dealer except the new 800's. Local dealer didn't have any 800's. Doesn't seem that local dealer wants to fix our sleds anymore. Hats off to M & M polaris. They just gained 8 new customers that will drive 2 hours for service.

On page 48 of the March 2010 Snowgoer magazine they did a review of the 2009 Shift 600 with the CF2 engine, that was in their fleet last year. They mention the sled having a frequent bog around 6000 RPM's. The dealer did update, no change, finally replaced the pistons due to deep scuff's on the intake side and the sled ran great after that, no bog.

I wonder if the 800's are affected by what seems to be the same bogging issue? I know the 800 has the 4 injectors versus the 2 in last years Shift 600, but scuffed pistons could have the same impact in either engine.....

600 shift 136

I bought 1 of these in December, with the 2 injector motor, it had a mid throttle bog problem, the dealer did a reflash and replaced the spring and helix in the secondary and that cured the problem for the most part, it does have an occasional stumble after full throttle letoff then back to half throttle, but that seems to only happen when riding in powder or when it's snowing, so I think I am ingesting snow through the headlight adjuster and am going to try a screen kit for that. I had heard about the cold seize problem with these engines and always warm up to 120 degrees before I move.

Well, got my sled back (rebuilt engine) last week and was able to go for a short ride (50+ miles) on the weekend. Sled seems to be running great. Looking forward to some additional ride time this weekend to complete the break-in and then see how it really runs after that.

For those of you with the 800, some advice we got from Tom's Polaris in Onto: You MUST let it warm to 100 degrees before you even touch the throttle. And if you seem to be having bog issues, rough start, or the like, it's fouled plugs. Even if they don't look bad, the things are so touchy that any little bit makes a huge difference. Since starting to do this, my buddy and I have not had even one hic-up or other issues.

You are correct let the sled warm up, also you must leave the wires unpluged if you run in the UP, lots of poor grade gas, only plug them in Wisconsin only if you run 92 or 93 octane BP or other good gas with no ethanal, otherwise keep them unpluged. The 800 runs great no hic-up much faster 1,000+ miles on the 800 IQ.

One last thing I found out is when Polaris does the testing and remapping on the 800's they use only champion plugs, so if you use NGK plugs they will not match up on the crossover and you will have a loss of performance or hi-cups in the midrange so I will stay with the champions. Personally I only use the best NGK BR9ES Platinum plugs for the last 8 years but with all the problems with the 800's I had to use champions, everything runs good finally this weekend sled ran great.

My friend plans to trade his 800 IQ in for a 2011 800 RUSH, I told him good luck, I plan to wait until 2012 let them get all the problems fixed!

I will find out Sunday and Monday how fast my 800 Dragon is, I will be racing against an 800 IQ, 600 tripple, 98 700 xc hopped up witch has never been beat at any race.
This is the fastest 700 I have ever been on. My friend has raced against 600,700,800's, and 1,000 sleds and has beat everyone.
He beat my 2002 700 xc by 50 feet same with my friends 2005 F7 Artic Cat in a 1/8 mile 1/4 mile 1/2 mile runs.
The Ski-doo 800 mx he beat by 20 feet, 2 years ago.
