I will find out Sunday and Monday how fast my 800 Dragon is, I will be racing against an 800 IQ, 600 tripple, 98 700 xc hopped up witch has never been beat at any race.
This is the fastest 700 I have ever been on. My friend has raced against 600,700,800's, and 1,000 sleds and has beat everyone.
He beat my 2002 700 xc by 50 feet same with my friends 2005 F7 Artic Cat in a 1/8 mile 1/4 mile 1/2 mile runs.
The Ski-doo 800 mx he beat by 20 feet, 2 years ago.

ps what lake will you be on I slay dragons on the wifes f7 can usualy let off the gas after 400ft so they dont feel so bad.not even worth halling out the drag sled for a 140hp toy

F7 pretty much beats everything out there in a measured drag race. Don't know how AC got so much from a 700? Probably take my Attak 150. ezra knows that.lol

No posts about which sled is faster! There is no way to tell in a discussion board which sled is faster. The only way to tell is to put them side by side and run them down the track. Besides, 95% of these posts end up in mindless brand bashing.

Just got home from namakogon lake and ran ran my 800 polaris up against my brother-n-law's nytro 1050. True test side by side we ran within one inch of each other. The only difference he had a extra 40lb.s on me. Tried it a second time across the lake the next day and went from 95mph down to 65 mph in seconds with the the throttle pinned. I just hit the brakes and came to a stop wondering how much longer I can take riding a polaris. My wife and kids are a true polaris family. I've been warming it up to 100 degrees, run champion spark plugs, done the latest remapping twice at two different dealers. The only thing I did different this weekend is run 91 or 92 octane. That stopped the back firing for about 1 day, then back to back firing the next day. Higher octane gas does help but doesn't solve the problem. Went across another lake at 60 mph and the sled lost all power. Come to full stop and take off, like nothing every happened. My 11 year old son is now wanting a phazer 4 stroke for himself after seeing all the problems I'm having with this 800. I'm not ready to switch brands yet but seriouslly thinking about it. Does anyone have any advice for me? Has anyone tried different exhaust? Changed my wife's 700 switchback exhaust and turned that sled into a real runner, so wondering if we should try the 800. And if I was looking to get gas mileage I would have bought a yahama already, so please no advice on that. I get plenty from the brother-n-law

Your sled had all the symptoms mine had, I had my dealer return my sled to the flash that was included with the recall update, the latest Jan. flash is horrible which I'm assuming you have, do yourself a favor and have your dealer return it to the flash before that.

I purchased a Power Commander V from Dynotech, Jim is his name and they have done extensive testing with the Polaris 800 and have pre-loaded fuel maps that you can discuss with him, he was very helpful. Now mind you, prior to having a PC-V, I couldn't get over 100 mph, 97 to be exact. This weekend with the PC-V installed running 93 octane Shell non-ethanol fuel, wires plugged in on hard pack lake, air temp. 25 - 30 deg. sled is all stock and I pulled 107 mph on the speedo, I'm pretty happy with that resullt. I have an '09 Switchback 800, the standard Switch 8 is pretty damn heavy and I weigh 300 lbs. geared up, so like I said if it can go that fast pulling all that weight and spinning a 136" track, that's pretty darn good in my book.

I wish I wouldn't have waited so long to get the PC-V, it makes a big difference because Polaris is held hostage by the EPA. Also, don't run Champions, run NGK BPR9EIX iridium plugs. Do yourself a favor and purchase a PC-V, if you plan on keeping your 800, you won't regret it, hope this helps.

How much for the PC-V?
One more thing I found out once you get over 1,000 miles the sled gets faster by 5 or 10 mph.

We have 2 new Eteks with over 5000 miles on them should we check our Plugs yet? Also we don't carry any spare Plugs, is that ok?

Longtrack your lucky. I've tried both plugs. I can put new plugs in before it comes out of the garge and listen to it back fire on the way out. Makes my kids laugh. HA HA

Spoke too soon!

Well here is where I sit with my 2010 800 Dragon, 45 hrs., 1358 miles and its going to the dealer on Monday. Whats wrong? Well I was in Newberry, Mi for the weekend and the sled was running great, filled with gas ( will not name the place because everyone else filled there too and no other problems), ate lunch then back out to trail. In about 10 miles the sled had nothing past 60 MPH. It was great out of the hole when throtle was pinned, but then it would bog and loose power. I was afraid to hold it wide open for more than a short burst from then on. Checked plugs and it was very lean looking. I really think I could have burned it down if I wanted to, but I had over a hundred miles to get back to trailer in Newberry. I did put a new set of plugs in right before the trip also and did change them when we stopped on the trail and haven't checked them again. Here is the funny part, sometimes it runs great up to 95 MPH and then boom, there is the bog again. No back fire, easy starting. Not sure whats going on but hopefully its simple... I will post as soon as the dealer figures it out.... Oh and never got a check engine or DET light either. When I say bog I may be understating it, the motor changes tone and just flat out refuses to build any more RPM. Even when I get it to do 95 MPH the tach only goes to 7570 RPM not the 8150 it was doing before. Anyone have any advice?

When I had the reflash done it runs great 100 + with wires plugged in, but in the UP because of poor gas and you have wires unplugged, it only goes 70 to 75 then bogs and looses power weird, but plugged in works great, that's my sled but I had a reflash with wires plugged in.

Here's my deal keep wires plugged in get a new reflash, if you ride in the UP and have poor gas don't run it hard, it seems if you plug them in and later unplug them it screws the performance up.

I mostly ride in Wisconsin but may have to go to the UP in March for one last ride, I hope not but I plan to keep the wires plugged in just not ride it hard unless I can get 92 octane from a good gas station.

Reflash for 2010?

I have never plugged in the wires for the 92+ fuel, but always run 92+ in it. I have asked my dealer several times over the last 2 months if there is a new flash for my sled and have been told no every time. This is a 2010 800 Dragon, purchased Dec. 4, 2009, is there a reflash for this sled? Thanks for any info anyone can give. I was so happy with this sled until this Saturday, yes it lacked top end of the other 800's out there, but it ran great and it was just as fast or faster than the others out of the hole. Top speed with wires unplugged and 92+ fuel has been 103 on lake Gogibic, may get more out of it with wires plugged in, but its plenty fast with them unplugged...

I bet you got gas down town. I had the same thing happen back in Dec. I filled up there and so did my buddie he was riding a 800 renagade and my sled was the only one to act up. I had the same rpm drop as you and I would have to pump the flipper to make it hit 8100. I also chaecked my plugs and they were scary lean. after I ran all that gas out it ran fine. I guess these sleds don't like 1/2 a$$ fuel.I am running a 2010 800 switchback

Well the dealer finally called today and the good news is I am not dumb. They found that the crank sensor is going bad, it even did it for them in the shop. I, in the mean time, have changed the gas, repalced the fuel filter ($62.00 ouch!) and cleaned the VES valves. They were pertty carbon coated for 1400 mile, but I guess you are to clean them every 1000 miles. Bad news is my season is over, they can not get the sensor from Polaris until April... I actually feel better about this sled now that they found something wrong with it. My fear was that they would tell me there was nothing wrong and I was going to have to get upset and switch brands...LOL I have owned a 99' 600 XC-SP, a 05' 800 XC-SP and now this 10' 800 Dragon, a far cry from the 1976 John Deere Spit-fire I started out on in 1976. Looking forward to next year and hopefully I will not have any problems. Looking for 2500 miles next year....

Been on the road working for the past two weeks. Got home to find out we maybe have 1 polaris working out of 4. Long story short wife took her 700 switchback out for a ride with friends last weekend-ten miles on and back home. Sounds like the clutch is ready to blow. She goes to get the son's 600 out of trailer and that thing lost all the gas-minor repair hopefully. Last resort take husbands new 800 switchback out and it blows up in 2 miles. Needless to say everyone called it a short day of riding. I get home to hear all the good news, and by the way the kids said the starter went out of the 340. I'm glad the season is coming to a end but yet would like just a little more snow to try out the new motor that polaris will be installing.

xcswitch: Not knocking Poo but may be time to try another brand? lol That is way too many probs for me to handle or pay for repairs.:( When the shiney new sled goes down I really get pissed & move on to something that might be better. Happened to me with AC years ago. Never went back too much bad karma. Went to Doo now Yam Attak & very good karma. Don't know how you deal with it?
