I think its time to start a meth lab to afford these prices...Im the sole provider of our income in my household..it's myself, wife and kiddo(3 years old) daycare is too expensive to send the wife back to work...i think I will go buy a couple infrared heaters and a couple face cords of wood for the fireplace just so i can save on the propane...wonder what Hank Hill has to say about this?

just got my W/E bill for here in S.E. WI. I heat and power 2,300 ft and it was $390 with a 1989 furnace...my 1,600 ft. place in Florence would be triple that.

This will hurt the propane industry in the long run.Their market share is shrinking. They just helped sell a whole lot of stoves and wood burning boilers. I feel bad for those people that can't afford to fill there tank or install a alternative fuel source for heat.

Wife came up north with me. She has it at 82 degrees on here. Turned down to 72. Just cause tank is full doesn't mean I need to burn thru the propane. Skylar.... 62? She turned the condo down to 65 for the weekend since we are not home.

that would get me a date in divorce court.

Ditto, I worry about my boys, 12 and 6. heck if iwas a kid I'd have just threw another blanket on but it seems weird to think your kids might not pull another blanket on but I bet if they were cold they would.

We've always had it on 70, just blindly on 70, I have moved it to 67 and I think maybe a bit more. Maybe the temp is like eating Lima beans, it just takes a bit to get use to it. who knows.

I know the prices suck.

I hope this link works. It is a calculator in which you put in your electric rate and gas price to determine which is cheaper (cost per 100,000btu)

We have geothermal heat and AC in our house. LOVE IT and recommend to anybody building or remodeling...spend the $$ and do it!

Out hot water is electric and stove/dryer is propane. Also, I have infloor heating piped in but no system to run it..yet. Almost pulled the trigger this fall on a propane boiler system to provide all the hot water incl. the infloor heat. With propane at 3.80/gal. electric is by far cheaper. The tipping point is about 2.40/gal. Will we EVER see those prices again?

Here's another calculator for different heating sources. Propane is pretty much the most expensive heating source available even at "normal prices". Geothermal heat pump and natural gas are the cheapest. This calculator doesn't include coal, but at $200/ton coal would be #3(might be hard to find or much more expensive in da northwoods). If you have the ability and access to cut your own wood, Lenny has the right idea!! :)

I have a 500 gallon tank, we filled up at the end of November for $1.68, I am now at 25 percent remaining. We usually keep the thermostat at 62, except on weekends if we are at home, then we would turn it up to 66. I just turned it down to 60, where it will stay for the remainder of the winter. I will not pay what the going price is at the moment.

1500 Sq Ft Home built in 1999 - We filled up in November also , 500 Gallon Tank 80% , have kept my thermostat at 65 degrees all day/night this winter and still sitting at 30% on the tank - Just got back from Crivitz / Radar Runs freezing my *** off , fired up the propane fireplace

I honestly feel so bad for these people with kids that are down to 5% in there tanks and running out up north - Its on the news everyday every newcast here - Its just plain sad knowing whats coming for weather next week - I wonder what this does for the Propane Industry next winter looking forward

I almost feel guilty sitting here writing this , like I could have 20% taken out of my tank to help someone out

Some of these replys drive me crazy. People complaining they can't afford to heat their house, then later in their post talking about heating their cabin, or shed or some other place. If you can afford to own additional property, then one would think you would have a decent "cushion" of cash in savings. Even if it costs 3000 a month for the 4 worst months of cold it should not bankrupt a person. Does it suck, YES, but suck it up and deal with it. There is nothing you can do at this point. I know 12k is a lot of cash, but most of us own a snowmobile or other toy that can offset most of that cost if it gets that tough going.

Go ahead start bashing me now, I know I am not one of the "regulars" here and my opinion does not matter since my post count is so low...

I sign a contract every fall with my gas company. I'm capped at $1.69 a gallon thru April. Just turned my heat up to 72! Not sure why others don't do the same? Why on earth would you be with a company that didn't do contracts is beyond me? And if you own a second home or cabin and cant afford to heat it than you cant afford to own a second home or cabin.

Isn't the bigger problem even getting propane?
That's the way news making it sound. People in northern Wisconsin running out, businesses shutting down early to conserve cause they can't get any.
Pretty scary if ya can't get any no the matter price.
