The place I work at is hurting bigvtime. We've been on 32-36 hour work weeks since April. Two people on my team are gone permanently, the rest of us have doing voluntary lay offs. I took my turn, even though I'm the supervisor, for a month. Now that the 600 bucks is done, no one can afford to be on lay off. We do not have enough work for 8 of us.

I work in the crap hole of Dane county, I am now forced to wear a mask for my 9 hours. Everyday I go home with a heada headache now. ***. Screw your mask!

I understand how you feel. It all feels like our lives and futures crumbling away.

At the same time it is a worldwide fact that masks, washing our hands a lot and keeping six feet, or more, away from others stops the spread of covid-19.

When it comes to the farming side I would be happy if we had actually gotten the $22.00 class lll milk price we were supposed to get for June. Got final settlement and the base for us was $18.00 per hundredweight. What that means is our 100 cow dairy at average production lost $13,000 that went up in smoke in one month. Another creamery paid $17.00, and another one was $16.35. We are supposed to be around $24 for July and I'm terrified to see what they give us. There has never been this much discrepancy. My husband went from yelling at me for locking in the government margins program for 5 years to thanking God I did it. BTW I would rather not get one cent from Uncle Sam. Locked in 30% of our 2020 corn crop in February at 3.51 a bushel and now wished I'd have done 70%.

My son has classmates who graduated with him that had part time jobs that are getting that extra unemployment. They said don't you wish you had had an off farm job in school. He says no, all you are doing is hurting our future as a country. His graduation ceremony will be in the morning, with enough rules to make your head spin.

How long do you think mask mandates would last if a good number of people wore MAGA masks?

But, can you get the individual's who are the most opposed to masks to wear them as a political statement?

100% virtual learning for local unified school district until Nov 6th when it will be revisited again, Hmmmmm right after the election when either things will go away or get MUCH worse, how convenient!

Repercussions of the shutdown are starting to snowball as new building contracts were cancelled and current contracts are being finished with no new jobs. I don’t think any of this is short term we are doomed to a slow recovery and with Covid increasing slowing the pace. It was a huge mistake to shut down for months bringing general business to a dead stop. 2 week shutdown would have been enough. We can’t and won’t turn the corner until there are vaccines available. Sucks but that’s the science of herd immunity and pandemics.

Are you serious? They actually gave that date? How obvious is that? Our district gave us the choice and are kids want to go and are definitely going! I am self employed and my wife has a great job that carries the insurance, so i would be the one forced to stay home. People that want to temporarily watch kids to make some money will be the only ones benefiting. All these day cares that remained open and even took on more kids had very little issues. Teachers are essential.

Yep, it's not going away. I have a buddy that is pretty much driving himself nuts over the whole deal. He has some health conditions, but is still going overboard. He stopped by one time since this happened to BS, he brought a 6 pack of his own and would not even sit in a lawn chair over fear that i might have touched it before he came. He sat on a retaining wall 10 feet away from me lol.

In MN the "mandate" states "face mask or shield" so I picked up one of the last grinders shields FF had and stuck a few American flags on it - no BS piece of cotton over my nose and mouth.

I knew I had saved my old Polaris Wedge helmet for a reason. When it cools down a little I will be wearing that.

Our kids want to go back, but right now the school is looking at 3 scenarios.

First, all virtual.

Second, all back in school with full facemasks.

Third, and right now the most likely. Elementary goes back full time. Middle and High school who share a building will have their grades get split. Week one the first group will have in school MWF and the next week Tuesday Thursday they will go into school. Opposite days will be virtual. The middle and high school share the same building. The district feels the elementary students are just not handling at home well at all.

We have already "turned the corner". Click the link I posted and look at the weekly death totals. The increase in cases is only due to increased testing, or else death totals would have risen with the increase in cases.

It could potentially get worse in the fall/winter, since viruses are more transmissible in drier air and our immune systems are stronger in summer, but I doubt it will.

Percentage of death is down due to more effective treatments. Medical science is finding better treatments everyday and will continue to do so even if the infection rate increases. Economically the damage is continuing and recent calls for a National Shutdown are insane imo. We have to move on with Covid as a circumstance of life as usual. If someone is not willing to take the risk of infection of Covid stay home be a shut in. It’s should be a personal choice not a mandate and do what suits you.

That's only a minor factor; we still don't have effective treatment for the people it hits the hardest (those with pre-existing conditions). Deaths are down primarily because most people have already been exposed to the virus, and it's running out of victims.

But yeah, increased shutdown is insane. It's politically motivated, and the guilty politicians don't care how many people have their lives destroyed by it.

Can somebody tell my why when they do a covid test they use a big long stick that goes way up your nose and then further still. But we have to wear masks so 'droplets' don't get on anybody and make them sick. How come we can't just spit on their stick if this is so highly contagious? I don't quite follow this.

The nasal swab is basically more accurate. Saliva sample isn't concentrated enough for a good sample. They are trying to make a sensitive enough test with saliva, but aren't there yet.

We were never really free. Society demands rules in order to function. You know I would like to drive my car right down the center line of the road, but for our transportation network to function we must have rules of the road. Freedom doesn't mean yelling "fire" in a crowded building. Nobody gives a second thought about having to wear clothes, but it would be a lot safer to run around naked than not wearing a mask.

There should be nothing political about wearing a mask, but our President made it a political issue. Yeah, tough folks don't wear a mask, be brave. It is a disgrace how the United States can't get this under control when other countries like the European Union have done very well in taming the beast.

Here are a few facts. They are not meant to be political. By the middle of June the U.P. pretty much had low covid numbers. Maybe just one case per day for the entire U.P. On June 25th President Trump made a visit to the U.P. at Marinette and Menominee and there were over a 1,000 folks lining the streets to watch the motorcade most without masks. Exactly two weeks later covid cases exploded in Menominee County. Right now on a case per 100,000 of population Menominee County has over 300 cases, the highest in the entire U.P.

Okay, I know what you are going to say. "Post hoc ergo propter hoc" fallacy.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post_hoc_ergo_propter_hoc
Okay I can't prove this was the cause, but you can't prove it wasn't. However, I do believe the huge number of summer tourists is the main cause of the spike in covid cases in the U.P.

I'm glad our Governor made masks mandatory in MI and maybe we can still turn this around so our kids can go back to school in a month. Don't bother coming to the U.P. if you don't have any intention to obey our laws.

This thread never was intended to be political regarding wearing a mask and blame anyone or political party for Covid spread. Mods feel free to delete I can always restart a similar thread in the future. It’s going to be difficult to avoid political slants in an election year but Midwest Player takes us down political Main Street with every post. It’s unfortunate and disruptive to Snow Central and MP will probably never stop even after the election.
