I'm trying not to start a pissing match i'm probably a little grumpy from not having a smoke in a couple weeks. But you need to watch what you say.Because I know a huge number of snowmobilers are construction workers, seasonal workers. Now how do you think all those guys get though the winter?

I was referring to the people who abuse the system. Not the ones who need it. Put it this way. I for one would be abusing the system if I did apply, so I would be joining the "system abusers" so when I said "those people" I was referring to the "system abusers". Sorry if you took it the wrong way.

I think Indy was referring to people who try to stay on unemployment as long as they can, its called milking the system. When the company I worked for closed in 2011, I heard A LOT of people say, well, I guess I will just milk unemployment for as long as possible, then go get a job. Some of those people are now out of unemployment, and can't get a job. I do not feel sorry for them one bit.

Now that I agree with.Maybe I need to throw on a new patch.LOL

Here is the one exemption to SS for Indy.

Temporary student exemption
Students working for the same school they’re enrolled at may be temporarily exempt from paying Social Security taxes. However, only students who obtain employment because of their enrollment qualify. In other words, if you work full-time in the registrar’s office of a university, and take advantage of the tuition-free enrollment the university offers its employees, you don’t qualify. If you attend school full-time, and the university offers you a part-time job that’s contingent on your continued enrollment, you do qualify. That only applies to the wages you earn at the university, not wages you earn from other employers.

Or your a foreigner on a student visa working part time. They don't pay either.

Here is one thing Indy your parents should look into for you this tax season:

Income limitations
Taxpayers ineligible for these Social Security tax exemptions may be happy to know the tax is imposed only on a maximum amount of income per year. Although not an “exemption” per se, the income you earn in excess of the applicable maximum for the year is effectively exempt from Social Security tax.

Provided by turbo tax

well I for 1 sock money away and book jobs well in advance of the lean weeks. I do know of tons of guys that sucked off the 2yr fed unemployment scam when that ran out it was crazy they found work.
I have 1 looser in my family that still wont talk to me cuz I would not give him cash work as long as he was sucking off the fed weeny.was actually kind of nice not to have to go listen to that house full of RA RA pro union crap over the holidays.
I had the 2 weeks before and after xmass booked in sept and the always dreaded tax time booked in nov.
most const guys dont qualify for unemployment any way.
I have no issue with the state unemployment deal that u can pull out what u and your employer put in.But I have serious issue with the BS stimulus fed 2 yr deal nothing but pay backs and buying votes and creating 1 more dependency class

In 41 years of employment I have never received one lick of spit of unemployment, hand outs or any type of aid from anyone and then I get bashed about my sucess. Just can't win around here. Anyways I just found out my state taxes also have gone up. I ran the math and with my self employment tax increase for one year I could of bought about 100 trail permits just from the increase. How much is the state taking extra??? Don't want to know. If I can get a deduction for bulk trail pemit purchases you bet I would. Then all could ride here.

X2-8 years.

Sounds like a win-win to me. 45 less people b***h'n about permit prices, and you get to put the money where YOU want to! It's a WIN for everyone! If only.....

I'd venture to say that the big companies that took stimulus to bail out there failed management and then at the same time drew large bonuses must REALLY frost yur cookies.

How do we get thru the winter? well it is a sink or swim situation for many of us in construction. The bulk of us guys are self employeed/sole proprietors. We don't get unemployement. We get a 1099. Not a W-2.

Glad to hear you are hanging in there on the stopped smoking.

Inflation is the biggest tax of all. We already have a lot of food inflation and we will have even more as the dollar continues to be devalued. Also the drought in the central US will continue the escalation of food prices in the near future most notably in beef products. The only reason the bottom hasn't already fallen out is that the EU is sucking worse than us. Gas prices are falling for the wrong reasons. There is diminished demand which translates into less activity. A slowdown in the economy. Although you won't hear the talking heads say that. Everything is good and getting better according to them.

So true about the inflation, Grub. The hidden tax and the biggest. 20 years ago I never dreamed that we would let this get so out of control.

I have some general comments.

1- My wife and I figured up that she would be paying $140 dollars more per paycheck. This equals out to being $280 dollars a month and over $3000 a year. Sorry kids, your daddy has to pay for the riff raff and dead beat people who milk the system. You wouldn't believe all the money the government spends on free breakfast and lunch at school...70% of the students in our school alone qualify and the town of 7,000 people where I teach is pretty is considered a pretty nice place. I hate to see the money being spent in the bigger cities.

2- Don't forget his Inheritance Tax, Death Tax. We figured up with this tax and capital gains that if my mom and dad would die and pass their land on to us, it would cost our family memebers(3 of us) 2.6 million dollars EACH in taxes just for the land alone. $8 million in taxes...OKAY. That gaping hole has just been plugged, that WILL not happen.

3- Thanks again politicians for a failed tax system.

Back to SS ,back in somewhere like 84 Reagan agreed to double the rates and the extra $'s where suppose to go in a lock box fund for the boomers.Guess what the whores in DC have been stealing it ever since and all of it, both parties. The only way out as I see it we have to unite as there are not enough of us anymore if we are divided between two parties. And put our backing behind a dog that can hunt.

If you're talking about Government Motors (GM) and taking care of the unions first and giving companies like Solyndra $500 million etc. then yes, it does. Lots of payback to liberal cronies and it did very little to help our economy. Remember all of the shovel ready jobs it was going to create? LMAO!

social security is ALREADY technically bankrupt. Heck, i did an essay in my college english class 27 years ago on how ss was already broke. they call it " insurance" like 157 times in the description but insurance is supposed to have collateral to back it up, not IOU's from future generations. I'm with ezra, bullets and gold

No, I'm talking about the corporate welfare given to bailout the failed banks from which the scummy good 'ol boy network had the nutts to give themselves scheduled BONUSES for there FAILURE, all the while accepting bailout money from the so called stimulus..
