SR Viper has Gremlins

Funny story on the Viper. We were stopped replacing a boogie wheel bracket. Two guys pull up with a new viper and a new 7000. Guy on the viper says he loves his viper. Great sled. Goes to start it and it wouldn't start. I had to show him how to warm start it from reading about the problem on TY. Told him to check the chaincase.

Smiled when my skid doo started right up.

You are 100% correct that 2s are not for me I'm not doing compression checks & new rings to ride trails I would much rather ride than wrench & 4s are gas & go engines 2s too much risk for me.

Gas and go is a delusion. Once you get ski's upgraded, new slides and boogie wheel update kit to mitigate slide wear, and Yamaheaters on older models, then gas and go. After $600 to $800 in mods.
Not to mention $150 oil change once a year, I can buy 3.5 gallons of VES Gold for that. LOL

We don't do any of that stuff on Apex XTX or Apex SE or my older Attak GT bone stock just change oil at end of season but we don't ride crap trails either. What Yamaha sleds are you refering to?

Oh Yes, you do I had Apex XTX, had to buy bigger wheels. Then they came out with new dupont slides. Don't forget the needed HID kit because lights suck. New skis. You bought a used one so someone already did it for you.

Nope not true if you want to do mods fine with me but we have not bone stock since 2006 Rage mono only add ons were higher windshields & studs. We have never had excessive hyfax wear with any Yamahas but don't ride crap either we find hyfax quickly wears to a point then stops wearing. Sure added Bergstrom triple points but we do that with any sled. I'm amazed you guys are telling me what I have done to my own sled.LOL :D

Then you are the only one.

Seriously if you like the Apex XTX you would love the 800 renegade.

I loved my Vector LTX and I got to go back and ride it this weekend and I can't believe how much better the R-motion and body position is on the ski doo. You really should give it a chance. I use to be a yamapologist.

they can't help it! Like Jesus said, forgive these guys for they know NOT what they are doing, lol

Fact: Yamaha slides do wear somewhat fast till about 50% because the slides wear down to the wheel size. At that point they wear like any other and last as long as any other. Some people would prematurely change the slides because they feared they would wear out soon but they don't. I have had 3 Yamaha 4s and same thing, I changed them after about 5500 miles depending on snow conditions. Idler wheels I found were no different than any other sled. Sometimes you bend them and that stresses seals and water enters the bearing, before you know it they are toast. I changed not one wheel on my 07. In 03 I changed the rear right in 7400 miles and 1 set of slides. Heated grips on 07 Rage were weak and needed help, that I admit,,they were poor. Some people were saying the low windshields were cooling off the grips but I say BS because I had a medium windshield and they still were not sufficient. previous owner added some device and it boosted heat levels to acceptable levels but still annoying that someone would have to buy additional stuff to make sled normal. To this day I still do not know exactly why that era Yami's had issues. As far as headlights you are totally incorrect. Hands down Yamaha has the best electronics out of all four and the stock lights are totally sufficient but heck yea to HID, they rock!,,,,,not necessary but no doubt an advantage to any stock lighting system. Yamaha lights are just as bright at idle as running 8000 rpm's. I agree the stock skis needed better carbides and in stock form they were undesirable. IMO they were bad enough for me to change them out right out the gate.

So, for may people why loved the advantage of 4s, we would deal with some minor issues because of the longevity and reliability of a 4s, regardless of what manufacturer. There are inherent wear items that a 4s will encounter such as exhaust doughnuts, drive bearings, keep an eye on front suspension bushings if you pound trails ahrd. The old RX1 were a pain to change oil as you had to remove battery, battery box, air box and have not so common tool to get filter off as it was right under battery mount. Rage was easy, you took out 4 or 6 screws and removed plastic belly pan and filter right there and drain plug right there, very easy, I hear Apex is same way.

Sure Renegade 800 is a great sled but 2s not for me I'm not doing compression checks & new pistons like momoney does just to ride trails. Yamaha 4s best for me maybe doo 4s someday but doo 4s engines unproven to me so far. I have 150 etec outboard & more problematic than 4s outboards but perform ok. Asked dealer, who also rides with me, about 150 etec outboard codes & faults & he agreees these engines burp all the time & he has sold lots of them.

I hope you are joking about the 800 gade because that motor is a POS. Sure it is punchy but concerning longevity, you'll be lucky to see 6000 miles, it's worse that the fricken 800 p tec, great chassis and rider position but the 800 is junk, 600 e much better.

WOW...coming from a guy with a poo 800. pahaha. i duno how polaris's burn down so much with the insane oil consumption they go thru. Last time I rode behind a 2012 800 poo my eyes were burning the whole time. Id def be willing to bet the 800 E-tec will last 2-fold longer than a poo 800....and out run it in the process

Seems like everyone is pretty passionate about the snowmobile brands that other people ride.

Yamaha is going to have some Vipers at Peacocks this friday and saturday so since I have to pick my sled up from service I signed up for a ride. This is the last season on my 600 etec warranty and they are replacing a $750 injector so it is time to think about getting a new sled and maybe even back onto a 4 stroke. Have been eyeballing the 900 Ace but not sure on the power and also considering a 1200 gade. Maybe a Yamaha is in my future again.......

poo 800 in a trail sled is a disaster waiting to happen so your probably right,,,;)

did you mean to say the little oil they use because it ain't much and that's part of the problem
