The project begins

Who would want it anyway, after they see you like to go swiming with it? LOL

But really IMO wouldn't touch one that has gone in lake a few times. Dent wouldn't bother me.

Well, you are entitled to your opinion, but, as you can see, it was a complete tear down, by the time I get it all back together, it will be as good as new. Besides, it only went under ONCE, and was in there for about 15 minutes tops.

Here is pic of my buddy's sled in April of 04, it was under water for 24 hours! All that had done to it was, water drained from engine, and chaincase, and gas tank, and oil tank. Started up and ran fine. (Thanks Richard) Lance rode it for 2 more seasons, the only problem he had was since he never took the seat cover off to get to the foam to dry it completely, it would get a little hard when it was below zero out.

I would have to agree with 98panther. Would not care to buy a sled that had been at the bottom of a pond. Even if it was only once.

I wonder how the insurance company would feel about riding a sled on open water?

Could that somehow void the policy?

I know of a guy who drove his truck on a frozen lake and it went through the ice, and the insurance company would not cover it.

Skylar, your the man!!! sweet project. So what it has been under water, It is just a pc. of equipment people. Rock on! Live like your dieing, I envy you. The river in my front yard is 40' deep. tough recovery there. Who really cares about the insurance co. They don't care about you. Skylar let them off easy. Insurance is like Vegas, you do not win even if you think you won.

polarisrider1... Don't get me wrong, I am not on the insurance companies side. Most on here know how I feel about insurance.....

I was more concerned for Skylar in the fact that if an insurance company knows that you are using a vehicle for some other use than what it is intended for, they may find a way to wiggle out of covering it, even if the damage did not happen during that use.

Famousguy, thats when the mystery fire happens. Seriously, I am not sure If they would try to wiggle out. I do faintly remember my insurance guy saying, "No vehicles on the ice please." In Canada a great deal of the lakes are trails in the winter, I ride all over the ice on the North side of Drummond Island too. I will investigate further.

Snow is water. How many people would prefer to ride on snow vs dirt?

This looks like a fun project. Thanks for the pics skylar.

I was talking about the watercrossing in the summer.

Here is my question.

Let's suppose I was riding my sled on open water in the summer and I sank it and somehow damaged it, would the insurance company pay to fix it?

I know for a fact that allstate will pay if you sink and you dont let off the gas suck in a bunch of watter and bend a crank.thay also pay recovery fee, sbut that is in feb I dont know if I would try it in july.prob just wate and file after the new year

Skylar, I gotta tell ya I'm kinda jealous. I know it sounds crazy, but sometimes I like wrenching on my sled more than riding.... Yeah, I know, that just sounds wrong....

Thanks for the props Brad!

skidoodood, I know what you mean! I've had people ask me why I am doing it, because I want to! Yes, it is a lot of work, but, it really isn't that hard. It is taking me a bit longer than I thought, but, when you get into a project like this, things happen. It goes something like this: well, crap, I have this off, I might as well sandblast and paint it, well I better get that nice and clean, it's all apart, might as well put all new bearings and seals in, well shoot, now is a good time to order that SLP intake kit, oh, I guess I better order those new! So on and so on. LOL.

Its a rainy crappy day here today, so I am doing laundry, and watching a few new sled vids. Tomorrow I will get back at it.
